  1. A very worrisome trait of the CUBS in recent years, no? It is but, let's keep in mind that most of the regulars are out of the game.
  2. With Cubs announcers instead of White Sox! I think it might be interesting to watch a Cubs/Padres game announced by the White Sox announcers. Yeah, that's not what I meant. We had to suffer through White Sox announcers the last time a Cubs game was on WGN. Although after suffering through the Padres announcers earlier this spring, I'd actually have to say I'd rather hear Hawk and DJ than Tim Flannery and Co..... I second that! Flannery really hates the Cubs and makes no apologies for it... At least Harrelson will attempt to compliment the Cubs when they play the Sox.
  3. I'm not sure who this is addressed to because I never mentioned the Cardinals in my Cubs assement but, I do think they have holes and that you're giving them too much credit. It goes without saying that they have been good but the team they are breaking camp with is far from impressive. Ponson will be serviceable but his outing today reminds everyone that he has a career 4+ ERA. He isn't going to turn into a dominant pitcher overnight. Furthermore, their bullpen looks beatable and who's playing 2B for them and what kind of production can they expect? LF ? Encarnacion in RF isn't any better than Jacque Jones... Picking them to win is safe but that doesn't make it accurate. My pick is the Cubs. No matter which team wins the division, I expect a lot of parity.
  4. If only the Cubs' injuries were more like Edmonds': http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/cardinals/story/22E597C2E97C1B688625713B0016A1D4?OpenDocument BTW, Edmonds spring stats; 26 AB, 13 H, 4 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBI, .500 BA, .552 OBP, .769 SLG, 1.321 OPS His health is still a concern. BTW, 26 ST ABs isn't too much to get excited about. I wonder what his numbers would have been had he been healthy enough to play in more games? In either case, the best team will win...
  5. Every team in the division has holes but my feeling is that the Cubs are going to prevail and win the Central because: 1. I see them scoring more runs this season than in recent years. 2. The starting pitching will be just enough early to sustain them until Wood, Miller, and Prior make their debuts. 3. The rotation will be dominating by June 4. The bullpen is going to be the best in the division They are going to surprise a lot of people this year.
  6. No maybe? No possibly? He HAS been switched to long man. :-k http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060330&content_id=1374738&vkey=spt2006gamer&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc Yeah, Bruce Miles confirmed it earlier during the game (in the Game Thread). It's official.
  7. I don't seriously believe that the Tribune would sell the Cubs because the team is too profitable. Plus, it helps both WGN radio and television generate revenue. If the team were sold I'd be concerned about the games being moved from WGN (among other things...)
  8. By opening day for sure but I think they have some wiggleroom beforehand. Looks like Pagan made it, but what about Theriot? anyone know? The papers say he has a good chance to be the 25th man unless a last minute trade occurs.
  9. By opening day for sure but I think they have some wiggleroom beforehand.
  10. If Williams is still in the game he's pitched admirably. Hopefully, he and the bullpen can keep them scoreless the rest of the way.
  11. I doubt the Cubs are in the mood to trade their young pitchers (Marshall, Hill and Guzman). Next season, Maddux and (potentially) Wood's spots in the rotation will be up for grabs. There may be other openings as well depending on what the Cubs plan to do with Rusch and Williams in the future.
  12. There's no TV or radio for this particular game. Things are different during the regular season.
  13. I'll take it! I'm sooooo glad that all the games will be televised going forward.
  14. Miller is the NRI So when Koronka gets send down, the roster will be set, right? Yes. Unless something else, unforseen, happens.
  15. Why is it that the past two years the W.Sox have just about every game on Comcast? Has anyone figured that out yet? Because the Cubs have WGN as their base. Comcast is owned by a collection of teams/businesses including the Cubs/Tribune, the White Sox, and others. That still doens't make sense. The TRIB still has thier hand in the Comcast pot and why not spilt it 50/50 with the Sox and Cubs. I mean the Cubs get what 2-4 games and the Sox get 20 games? Doesn't make sense. Comcast wanted to show more Cubs ST games, IIRC, but was shot down by the Cubs. I really can't see why the Cubs would have such little desire to start getting their fandom warmed up for the season. If we're just talking about ST, I think the reason was financial because the Tribune company is experiencing some hardship.

Unlike the Cubs, the Sox don't have their own channel. Comcast wil show 72 Cubs games I believe. WGN still wants to have sports revenue. WCIU (CubsNet/SoxNet) will show some of the games, as will ESPN and or FOX

  18. FYI, Novoa has been optioned to AAA. The roster is now at 27.

  20. I couldn't care less if you put Lee in left field. If you want him getting hurt, I guess that's YOUR issue. I certainly don't want MY guy getting hurt, though. Injuries would be my concern. There's a reason why Pujols isn't in the outfield anymore, and it's not because he was a terrible left-fielder. What's this "my guy" stuff? If you're assembling an "All NL Central Team" then you are the GM or manager and all the guys are YOUR responsibility. Therefore, the onus is on you to put together the best squad which is why Derrek Lee at first base and Pujols in LF makes the most sense offensively and defensively.
  21. Z, Rusch, Maddux, Marshall/Williams is the order (not sure which days that corresponds to)
  22. That site has no credibiility with me. I doubt Marshall told Scout.com before any major news outlet. I'll wait to read it for free and not for a $80 subscription fee.
  23. If said manager had Derrek Lee on the team with him it's quite likely he would. The Cardinal organization would go ballistic if ANYBODY stuck Albert in the outfield. You guys can have your imaginary fun, but in reality, it would NEVER happen. Pujols would start at first base, and Derrek Lee would be a pinch-hitter extraordinaire. The Ranger organization would go ballistic if ANYBODY stuck Alex Rodriguez at third base. You can have your imaginary fun, but in reality it would NEVER happen. Jeter would start at SS, and Alex Rodriguez would be a pinch hitter extraordinaire. Moving an athletic shortstop to third base is alot different than moving a big strong body to the outfield, where there's a higher risk of injury. If you want Pujols and Derrek Lee both on the team, then take Aramis off, and put Pujols at third base. Aramis is leaving the all NL team either. I'd still put AP in LF and DLee at 1B. Because you're a Cub fan, and there's no accountability for you. Nobody else would even dream of it, at this point in Pujols' career. It's easy for you to call me a homer but I think it makes the most sense. I don't see anyone complaining about ManRam roaming around LF. Pujols would be fine out there; I consider him a better athlete than Manny. Derrek Lee helps the team more by anchoring the infield at 1B. That's clear thinking not biased.
