  1. Lamb has a higher OPS and even though Ensberg has hit for power, his average his down (his OBP is slightly higher however). Hitting Lamb third isn't a bad idea.
  2. They came close though, and that's what counts. Close only counts in horsehoes. Hey, watch the language!! :D LOL, look at that typo.
  3. No they didn't, because the game was never tied and the Sox never took the lead.
  4. That's quite a stretch. How is it a stretch? Barrett is saying the team needs a new LF. No he didn't, he said it would be great to have him considering what he does in Wrigley. There's quite a leap of logic that has to be made to get that from what he actually said. At the expense of Murton... These quotes don't sound like someone who's just marveling in a guy's success. He's seriously lobbying for the Cubs to get CLee. Link Cubs.com
  5. That's quite a stretch. How is it a stretch? Barrett is saying the team needs a new LF. He certainly isn't saying he has confidence in Murton's ability to develop as a player especially when you consider that the Cubs have been trying to sell the sizzle on Murton developing a power stroke.
  6. I haven't read this thread so I apologize if it was already mentioned but, am I the only person who thinks this is odd for Barrett to say? He's essentially dissing Murton. I'm sure Matt felt great when he read the article...
  7. Pagan's looking all "Rico Suave" in the CSN postgame. Actually, I think Plesac likened him to someone in the Godfather. Hilarious!
  8. They came close though, and that's what counts. Close only counts in horsehoes. Don't forget about hand grenades and suicide bombing.

  10. Considering the Astros don't usually score many runs for Clemens, I say the Cubs have a better than average chance to win. I call for a Marmol win.
  11. If I took the train I would have gotten you one. :D
  12. If a player is willing to go out and say those things, the manager has more problems that a player getting in his head. I think it says a lot about the player (and it isn't positive). IIRC, it was Williamson who fueled the rumor that the Cubs might try to trade him at the beginning of the season because he said he still wanted to close. I didn't think that was appropriate (just like today's comments). The guy has the ability to be a great pitcher but with his injury past and propensity for wildness he should just shut up... I agree with you on one level that players should play and not call out thier manager in public. However he isnt the onlyone and since it is more than him Baker has big problems in that clubhouse that arent going to be fixed if he stays. I'm sure there are some problems in the clubhouse right now but considering Williamson's comments at the beginning of the year (when the team was playing well) I think he's the type of guy with the potential to be a cancer. Why say the manager's playing favorites? It really disses both the manager and teammates. Also, why publically say you still want to close when you (should) know your role in the bullpen. The Cubs did him a favor by taking a chance on a guy coming off an injury. He should be using this opportunity to showcase his stuff instead of causing controversy. I dont agree completely. I want a guy to be so competitive that he wants to get back to closing. He said he told the Cubs that and thier answer was not what he had hoped. With all the rumors of problems and players speaking out over the last few weeks dropping things between the lines, I still say Baker has more problems than Williamson and Walker talking to the press about it. I don't think he should say it, no matter how competitive he is, because the team has a closer. Like I said, the Cubs picked him up off the scrap heap so allowing him to close wasn't on the agenda (especially with Dempster doing such a great job last year and in the early going this year). Also, Williamson hasn't exactly inspired confidence when he's pitched both because of his wildness and ability to get injured. Who knows if his arm can standup to pitching 4-5 times a week? I don't think he has much room to talk. It's also a cheap shot to start yapping about closing considering Dempster's recent struggles. It certainly doesn't symbolize support of a teammate (not to mention Howry and Eyre whom I'm sure he was also referring to in his "favorites" comment). Actually I hope every pitcher in that pen wants to close. I hope they all believe themselves such bada$$es that they can do it. It isnt disrespectful at all to say it. It is bad form to do it publicly. However doing it publicly shows that w/o a doubt Dusty has lost this team. The other stuff he is saying is common knowledge and further examples of the train wreck the Cubs have become. Believing it and saying it are two different things. We'll have to disagree because I do think it's, at the least, controversial to say when the roles have already been established. Again, Williamsonwas talking out of turn in April when the team was winning. Good riddance to him; he certainly isn't making it easy for the Cubs to get something good in return (for a trade).
  13. Carlos is going tot he Allstar game as just announced on CSN.
  14. Almost forgot: CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN!

  18. OMG, the Tigers are just trying to give the Pirates a win. The bases are loaded with one out in the 9th.
  19. Yes, and quickly. Does Williamson really make you feel comfortable? He seems hit or miss to me (either he shuts them down or he's wild and they score).
  20. That's not going to endear him to Baker... I was just listening to Sox radio (670) and Farmer commented on Williamson's comments today (intimating that Baker was playing favorites). Right before the homerun Farmer said, player should stay out of the manager's head and go out and play). I have to agree...
