  1. jesus. i realize this is a fundraiser thing, but i'm going to assume/hope that this year's version was authored by someone majoring in english or literature or any degree that requires reading comprehension. http://theshirt.nd.edu/assets/99573/nd_back_champ13rev.png You're standing on their heels? You're going to trip them.
  2. Makes a lot more sense
  3. I think the only real difference is it makes guys with lots of eligibility more value. With such a short bench, it's not like you're going to have a guy at each position that you can plug in on off days. But if you have one of those guys that's eligible at 3-4 spots on the field, then you've got an advantage (at the cost of maybe having better SP depth or something). Of course, most of those super-sub guys are as likely to go 0/4 with a couple Ks as they are to put up significant numbers.
  4. ok, thanks. I guess I don't know how much info I should be putting on nsbb or whatever.
  5. ND re-ups with NBC through 2025. Still looking for a reliable estimate on $$s. http://www.nbcumv.com/mediavillage/sports/nbcsports/pressreleases?pr=contents/press-releases/2013/04/18/notredamenbcspo1366299482518.xml
  6. another reason why all mid-week lineup changes should be allowed. technically, dropping maxwell constitutes a non-starting pitcher mid-week lineup change and shouldn't be allowed. Ok, then I'm confused. I didn't start Pagan on Monday b/c he had a sore wrist over the weekend and I wasn't sure he'd play this week. I started Duda, but then he was taken out of their second game on Monday with a back injury. So I took Duda out and put Pagan in b/c he's over whatever his wrist injury. Duda's back injury was minor so he's playing today, so I put him back in and took Maxwell out (who only started b/c Pagan had the wrist issue). Last week, you told me I could drop a guy from my bench, which is what I did to make room for Cingrani. If what I did wasn't above board, you can put Maxwell back on my team and I'll put Cingrani in the minors. But I'm pretty sure this is within the rules as they've been explained to me and how others play. Finally, I completely agree with you about all mid-week lineup changes. In the past, I've been burned by not doing anything b/c I didn't know what I could or couldn't do (I didn't think I could add a guy unless I was putting someone on the DL or dropping an injured player, then you told me last week that I can make mid-week changes to my bench players) and then when I do things like I did today, I'm told I'm not allowed to do them. I've been playing fantasy baseball for over a decade without issues but I cannot wrap my head around all the rules of this league.
  7. Duda's back was minor so he's back in the lineup. dropped maxwell to activate cingrani for today's start.
  8. If there's a bigger problem - and grabbing a bat and heading toward the other dugout with (it's fair to assume) the intent to hit people with it suggests that there is - if there is a bigger problem, I hope they're taking the time now to try and address it. If it means he misses a couple more games, no biggie.
  9. You know what would bring in some revenue? Ads on the jerseys. Castro could have the Cheerios bee on his back and chest. Maybe Soriano could have quaker state in his jersey. It'd be a cash cow. Who would be bothered by such a thing?
  10. Not a trend we should support.
  11. A big part of the discussion came from the digression of someone thinking that a replacement-level player would cost several million dollars, and another not understanding that being available for the minimum salary is very much a part of the definition of a replacement player. It's not just their literal projections either, i.e. ZIPS. ZIPS does weird things with middle infielders. You can look at their careers and recent results and see the -X WAR performance coming pretty clearly. If you're referring to my question, it was intended to elicit the response it did bc the concept of RL also includes the exception that they aren't just laying around all year long and guaranteed to put up a 0+ WAR. I think the misunderstanding lies with your inability to apply the concept of RL to real life. The Cubs plugged in a RL player when the starting 2b got hurt. He sucked and got cut when he was no longer needed. That is an example of RL in the real world. Going out on April 15 or whatever and getting a sure-fire 0+ WAR player, esp for a team with no talent in the upper minors, is going to cost more than nothing. That's reality.
  12. I want to see replays of good plays. I don't really care about replays of controversial plays because showing them on the big screen wouldn't alter the outcome at all...it'd just incite stupid behavior. It doesn't offset the negative that I think comes with the jumbotron - the pumping music and crap every half inning like you're at a minor league park. That's a lot of fun a couple times a year with kids at the minor league parks. But I like watching ML baseball without all that crap. Maybe I'm in the minority but I loved that about Wrigley. Outside of Sweet Caroline it may have been the only thing I liked about Fenway. Edit: didn't word that well. Sweet Caroline is the only time the atmosphere at Fenway reminded me of a minor league park. Other than those few minutes I liked the atmosphere.
  13. We're mostly having this discussion because a few people didn't understand the concept of replacement level, and also the perpetual debate of whether "I find this slightly annoying" is worth posting over or not. We're having this discussion apparently bc even though the Cubs had several RL players on the team you didn't think they should qualify as RL bc you didn't like their projections. It has nothing to do with others not understanding a concept.
  14. Replacement level is a great concept for what it is. It doesn't mean that a team can, in reality, go to the replacement level player store and grab a guy to put in the lineup tomorrow for $400k that will put up 0+ WAR.
  15. The actual one. A replacement player is one that costs the team the bare minimum a player can cost. They are available for the league minimum and/or cost negligible trade value. http://www.fangraphs.com/library/misc/war/replacement-level/ Being available for practically nothing is the entire everloving point of "replacement level." Glad you linked to that particular one.
  16. By definition? What definition of replacement level includes salary?
  17. Then again who knows when I'll ever be back to Wrigley so what do I care about game day experience.
  18. Yeah if you want a jumbotron for all those great replays and that's going to improve your experience then you'll be disappointed. You'll see some HRs and a guy catch a foul ball while holding his beer.
  19. I enjoy games at Wrigley so much more than Safeco which is a really nice stadium but also a circus between each half inning. I get the revenue benefit but I prefer MLB games without all the crap.
  20. So he called urlacher a has been
  21. You're right; the years the Bears played there were pretty awesome. Wait, you think he's right that there's no history there?
  22. Sure there is. I wrote it just above.
  23. Be honest, you would have drafted Kennedy first if given the opportunity.
  24. Well, if they just let anybody who purchased on the secondary market use the VIP entrance, it's not very VIP, not that it matters all that much to me (Hell, I usually don't arrive til right before first pitch anyway). If you directly are giving the tickets to somebody you know, though, I think it's fair to expect the benefits to hold up. You're missing the point. If a SEASON TICKET is transferred, no matter how or to whom, the rights should be transferred with that ticket. I doubt most people care about getting in early anyway. It's more for the bleacher ticket holders. Why? Why should I get the rights that come with buying 82 games for the price of buying 1?
