    Somebody dropped Chris Ray in my Y! league. I don't understand b/c the guy doesn't have a lot of closers. I do, but one of them is Baez, whose value may be hurt badly if Gagne does well when he's back. So is there something wrong with Ray that I haven't heard about? Is he worth burning my high waiver priority this early in the season?

    Nothing personal, but I just don't like this. This is the same argument that says "Athlete X isn't nearly as good as he was in his prime, he should hang it up. Every day he keeps playing is a joke." If you were one of the best ever to do whatever it is you do...and you loved doing it...and you made more money than you could ever dream to spend doing it - what right do I have to tell you when to stop? If the Stones love playing music and people keep buying albums and tickets, good for them. The fact that "Rough Justice" is a horrible song that makes me want to cut my ears off doesn't make "Sympathy for the Devil" any less great. The Stones are one of the greatest bands of all time. Whatever crap they put out over the last 30 years doesn't change that.

    Over 162 games that's an awful lot more. Cubs leadoff spot, 2005: .299 OBP Juan Pierre, 2006: .284 OBP Who all batted leadoff and for how many at bats? If you got your stats from the website, what is the link. I'm not doubting you, I'm just curious. I tried to look it up on BP but I couldn't find it. ESPN 689 ABs (Breakdown) Trans missed the real point on this though....last year 83 runs and 16 total sbs from the #1 slot. So far this year, 14 runs and 7 sbs- which works out to 119 runs and 56 sbs. To me that is a hell of a lot more production, although Pierre's numbers arent quite there yet. If Pierre continues to get on base at a .284 clip, there is no way he will score 120 runs.

    Still, you named 8 or so songs they've done in the past 35 years, none of which are as popular as their early stuff. 35 years is about 5 times as long as the Beatles were recording material. Bottom line from a musicology standpoint, in my opinion, is that the Stones should have hung it up when Jones died. That way, they'd have an easily defined canon of material much like the Beatles. Nearly every Beatles album is an "essential" of anyone's record collection. The Stones have diluted their canon to such an extent over the past 35 years that it's hard to define essential Stones records. I agree that there's been a lot of crap from the Stones in the last 30 years. But a world without Sticky Fingers is not a world I want to be a part of.

    I dunno...with the exception of "Start Me Up" (which I can't stand), "Angie" and "Brown Sugar", i really can't think of any "GREAT" Rolling Stones songs since 1970. Look at the songs that are pre-1970: Sympathy for the devil, paint it black, gimme shelter, honky tonk woman, satisfaction, as tears go by, get off of my cloud, you can't always get what you want, jumping jack flash, street fightin man, heart of stone, time is on my side, let's spend the night together. I really think they lost alot of their "mojo" when Jones died. I hate Start Me Up as well, but Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Sister Morphine, Moonlight Mile, Loving Cup, Tumblin' Dice, Angie, Beast of Burden, Miss You, Waiting On a Friend all come to mind as "GREAT" post-70 Stones. And I'm sure I'm forgetting some. But, to be clear, I'm not arguing that the Stones were better w/o Brian Jones, they just weren't. I'm just saying we shouldn't ignore their catalog after Satanic Majesties (or even after 1970).

    Well this all kinda goes into the argument I make quite frequently where I suggest that the Stones should have hung it up when Brian Jones died. Off the top of my head, they've only had one number 1 single since his death and that was Honky Tonk Woman in 1970. I think they've been spent the last 35 years diluting their wonderful 1960's canon of work with uninspired crap for the most part. But 1960's Rolling Stones....they're bad to the bone! Oh ya, my main beef with Elvis is that he never wrote his own songs. I think Rock artists should do that. Are you guys serious? I picked the Beatles too, but the Stones did some great work after Satanic Majesties - Beggars Banquet and Sticky Fingers are two of the greatest albums ever, not to mention Exile on Main St. Were they trying to keep w/ the Beatles? Maybe. But these are some of their best works. My problem with the Stones of the last 30 years is they've put out too much crap. They probably have as many great songs as the Beatles, but it took them 40 years to do it (and took the Beatles less than 10). Most of the Stones' albums of the last 30 years just have too much crap mixed in with the gems.

    I noticed the same thing. Wasn't he the guy who was recently quoted as saying he needs to be more selective? Seriously, it hurts my brain to watch these guys sometimes.

    I voted Beatles as well, though I am also a huge Stones fan. If you're talking pure rock 'n roll, I think you can make a great case for the Stones. But if you forced me to pick between the two, I'd go Beatles.

    Well then, if Cedeno was so "obviously" playing him to pull in such a sever manner, shouldn't Walker have been playing virtually up the middle? I guess that depends on what the spray charts say. Also, I don't remember Baker ever saying "walks are overrated". Does anyone have a link? Maybe I missed it. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=2669 That link made my head hurt. Each time I read those quotes, a little part of me dies.

    Crisco...Bardol...Vagisil. Any one of those will give you another 2-3 inches drop on your curve ball. I suppose next you'll say Maddux was rubbing jalapeno up his nose between innings.

    At least he catches the ball. A throwing problem should be easily fixable. Just ask Chuck Knoblauch.

Felix has a very high ceiling, but being a pitching prospect means he also comes with a great deal of risk. It's not like you're dealing all of those guys and getting a guarantee that he'll have a Clemens-type career rather than an injury-riddled one. But think of how much it took to bring Doc down. Right, I'm not saying Felix will do enough coke to kill a horse. I'm just saying that, in addition to the huge injury risk associated with any young pitcher, there are just risks associated with being young, relatively rich, and seemingly invincible.

    Iowa, huh? Lotsa corn there. I bet you've never heard that before. :wink: Actually, there isn't much corn in Des Moines (other than the canned variety). Some grass, trees, buildings, etc, but not much corn. Most people don't grow corn in the city, at least not when I was there. :wink:

    I agree w/ Springfield Cubby, park at the hotel and take the red line. As for pizza, I vote Giordano's or Ranalli's (on Clark). Oh, and the drive in from DSM on a Wednesday morning shouldn't be bad at all. I've made the trip many times and that's probably as good a time as any. Enjoy the game!

    I also have Crosby and picked up Hardy when Crosby was said to be out a week. I've been thrilled with him - and though he's not going to put up a 1.100 OPS for the year, in that lineup, he should be a very productive fantasy SS.

    I got Baez last night as soon as I saw the news here (thank you NSBB!). But as I was about to add Shelton, my wife came in and asked to check her email. When I got back 10 minutes later (after he'd hit his 2nd homer last night), my buddy had taken him. :evil:

    Depends on where the runners were when the ball was caught/dropped. If the runners are heading towards 3rd and home (which is likely, since you said there were 2 outs) at the time the guy dove, I don't have a problem with giving them the base they're heading to.

    I tend to agree. But I like seeing an "expert" predict good things for us (and not great things for the Cards).
