  1. We'll trade him for Jeff Conine. We kept him all this time, kept him as "untouchable" he'll be in CF next year thank god. We'll trade him for Brady Clark.
  2. 5 of them were inside the park. I'm making that up.
  3. Derrek Lee is not my first choice for GM when Hendry gets fired.
  4. No, a miracle would be yet to come - Slappy in the box. 3-run homer. I'm calling it.
  5. Sac Fly....he battled though. Like a gladiator.
  6. Santo said he's on deck. And he's wearing sunglasses, no less.
  7. When was the last time the Cubs came back from a 5 run deficit? If only Fred was here. I wish the Cubs would show some balls and make a comeback. Everytime they get down early it seems they just go into a shell and give up. Hendry needs to find guys with FIRE! and INTENSITY! He needs guys with POWER! and OBP! Not if they don't know how to win. I'd rather have scrappy and hustling players than guys who strike out a lot and clog the bases with walks.

  9. If we can get 6 IP with no more runs scored, I'll take it. I'll take it too, but it is a moot point. This lineup will have a very difficult time scoring runs. Why? We scored a bunch in the last two games. They've been playing with intensity.
  10. If Dusty weren't managing, he'd be on pace of six innings. I predict a 150-pitch complete game. Huzzah!
  11. Anyone can hit a 91 MPH fastball right down the middle. Neifi.
  12. When did Glendon Rusch get put back into the rotation?
  13. Can you imagine what kind of speed we'll have at the top of the order? Womack and Pierre is close to the Furcal/Pierre combo that Hendry envisioned.
  14. Yes. There was an article today in Baseball Prospectus that argued that Murton's greatest value to a contending team (not the Cubs this year, but perhaps next year if they make smart moves) would be leading off.
  15. He added a cut fastball in the offseason. I don't know if he'll be a good starter for the rest of the season or not, but surely he was worth more than FAST FREDDY BYNUM. Has Hendry gotten any value for a prospect in the past 2 years? Surely he has - somebody help me. Nomar and Murton for essentially Harris, Beltran, and Jones was great value. Grieve for Pratt. I really meant since the 2004 season, but getting Murton and Nomar was nice. Grieve got 36 at bats as a Cub. As much as I liked him, that's not good value for Cruz, who at one point was ranked ahead of Prior on prospect lists. Grieve for Pratt, of course, was a steal. A loaf of bread and a plastic cup would have been a steal for Pratt, though.

Has Hendry gotten any value for a prospect in the past 2 years? Surely he has - somebody help me. And heck, while we're at it, Juan Cruz for Andy Pratt? Cruz probably isn't going to keep up his 3.33 ERA, but right now he ranks behind only Maddux and Zambrano in VORP.
  17. Reverse that. Walker hits into few double plays. Murton will hit into a lot of them. Murton's ranked #25 in MLB in hitting into double plays per BP right now. Walker hits into DP's at a below average rate. I know it's early in the season, but their double play numbers were about the same last year. At one point this year, Murton was second to only Juan Pierre in hitting ground balls. I'd like to see Murton first and Walker second. Of course, since Dusty will call on his 2 hitter to bunt in nearly every at-bat, we might as well put the pitcher there.
  18. I dunno, Tim. That's a pretty bold claim. Aram playing as expected is worth about 5 wins over the course of a whole season.
  19. I haven't watched Perez much, but his numbers do look good against lefties. I'd be fine with a Perez/Jones platoon.
  20. Is the whole team struggling? As far as offense, Barrett is playing a little above projection right now, as is Ronny and Jacque (believe it or not). Murton's OPS exactly matches the OPS that PECOTA projected for him this season. Walker's slugging percentage isn't as high as it should be, but his OBP is pretty good - higher than it will probably be at the end of the season. The two players who are falling well short of projections are Aramis Ramirez and Juan Pierre. And, of course, Derrek Lee isn't in the lineup. I think what's going on right now shows that Lee and Aramis were being counted on to provide the bulk of the offense this year. I wonder if we'd even be a .500 team if both were healthy and playing as expected.
