  1. I like Randy. He pitched well for us in the brief time he was with us. I would not be a bit surprised to see he and Marmol do extremely well for the Jaxx this season. I am very excited about this rotation. Hopefully, the rest of the pieces are just as good. In order, here is who I like from the pitchers listed.. Nolasco, Marmol, Hill, Wells, Marshall and Pinto I have Nolasco at number one because he is the best pitcher overall. As much as the Cubs needed a major league ready CF, this deal could very well come back to haunt the Cubs big-time in the long run (especially if Pinto ever gets his control harnessed). Marmol is number two because he has the ability to be a stud as either a starter or a reliever. I am hoping it's as a starter because he can flat-out deal when he's on. Hill is a very interesting player. I love his curve-ball and his fastball is alot better than some of the so called experts would suggest. If he keeps his control and keeps the pitches down, he could be a potentially dominating starter or a shutdown LOOGY. I have already talked about Wells, so I'll say this about Marshall. He could jump to number one on this list if he stays healthy. This kid has an abundance of talent, but everytime he's ready to break-through, he breaks down. If Sean stays healthy, he will be a fixture in the Cubs rotation. Pinto is a mixed-bag. When he is on, there aren't a whole lot of lefties better. The problem is he has lousy control. Honestly, I don't see Renyel succeeding because of it. However, if he can do what Hill did this past season, He has the stuff to be a top of the rotation type starter.
  2. All 140 games will be available online at http://www.wnws.com The link is easier to get to than last season's link. I can also tell you that our quality of broadcast is going to sound 1,000 times better because we are purchasing some brand new equipment. Our sound will be major league quality (hopefully the same can be said of my job this season). The move has been rumored for quite a while. I'm not sure if the callers from the Cheap Seats had anything to do with the ultimate decision, but I am pleased with the move.
  3. The Diamond Jaxx have a new radio station. News Talk 101.5 FM, WNWS and the Diamond Jaxx have agreed on a deal that will allow all 140 games to be broadcast on WNWS and/or http://www.wnws.com The Jaxx were on this station from 1998-2002. It is a very popular FM station in Jackson.
  4. Pedro, I would think that the Cubs wouldn't have a problem bringing a player up if they feel that this player can help them. As far as which player has a shot at going to the show this year, I think I will wait to make a prediction until I see the final roster on April 1st or 2nd. My question to you is, Is Pedro There?? Vance, I don't think the ownership situation has anything to do with the affiliation contract. I think the fact that we don't draw any fans here is the bigger problem. Hopefully a contract extension will happen.
  5. The contract ends after this season.
  6. We should have Marmol, Wells, Coats, Rojas, Patterson and Montanez returning from the playoff roster. That's my first of many predictions for the season. We should have an infield of: 1B: Dopirak 2B: Patterson SS: Rojas 3B: Moore Not sure what the outfield is going to be like but I'm willing to bet that Coats is the full-time center-fielder if he plays here. Buck still has a chance to start the season in Triple-A Iowa.
  7. First off, let me thank the great folks at NSBB for allowing me to answer your questions this season. California Raisin, in answer to your question, there is a very good chance that Marmol, Marshall and Wells are good bets. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Blasko and Cherry begin the 2006 season here as well. I doubt if Gallagher starts here, but he has a very real chance of getting here later in the season if he dominates the FSL. Obviously there is a long way to go before the 24 man roster is announced but there is alot of talent from the names being bandied about. Outshined One.. I have never met any of the new coaches, including Pat Listach. Unfortunately, I have no idea what their philosophies and techniques are but I can't wait to find out. I'm especially looking forward to working with Tom Beyers. He was in the Dodgers family and even though he and I never met, I have been told great things about him. As for Dopirak, maybe I am in the minority here.. but unless he has a great spring, he shouldn't be on this team. Don't get me wrong, he probably will be on the team regardless, I just think that he needs to master High-A ball before he tries his hand at the much more difficult Double-A ball.
  8. Pretty good chance that Marmol starts out with the Jaxx.
  9. One of the funniest lines I heard last year was Aardsma talking about his problems on the mound: "If baseball was just a two-out game, I would be a lock for the Hall of Fame." I hope he turns it around. He's a great guy..
  10. I meant topping out.. now that I look at it again, it is a tad confusing.. he threw low 90's during his stay in Jackson. Very rarely did he throw in the upper 80's.
  11. Bass was talking about listening to the show on the internet so he was trying to get cities that started with an E.. naturally I took East St. Louis and it went downhill from there. To answer your question, I think Marmol will start out as a starter. He looks pretty solid as a starter.. but I think he would be pretty dominating as a closer. His fastball would be upper 90's as a closer instead of 93-94 as a starter. It's safe to say that what happens injury wise to the pitchers above Marmol (Triple-A and the show) will dictate what kind of pitcher Marmol becomes.
  12. I didn't get your e-mail Jon.. it was fun to be on the Cheap Seats.. Seabass (the host) does a really nice job (as well as the rest of the staff) of promoting us. As the season draws nearer, I'll be back on the show..
  13. I don't mean to "give myself some props".. I'm just looking for people to call or e-mail the show..
  14. I will be appearing on "The Cheap Seats" tonight from 6-8 pm CDT. It's a local sports-talk show here in Jackson, TN. The show is available on the world wide web by going to http://www.wnws.com I look forward to hearing from you Jaxx fans tonight...
  15. It looks like the city is going to sign the lease at some point today. When they do, we can all breathe a very BIG sigh of relief.. and get excited about the up coming season. You kids have no idea how excited I am about getting back in the booth. I am sure that Nathan, Dean and the new broadcaster in Daytona (I'm sorry, I can't remember his name.. I'm getting old) are feeling the same way.
  16. Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding... we have a winner. Obviously you have common sense.. something Mayor Farmer and city council don't have.
  17. I wonder if I would be allowed to drink 25 beers on the air. I'm thinking the broadcast would sound a whole lot different.. lol
  18. That's what he says.. although it wouldn't surprise me to see psycho Chuckie to run again. I'm telling you, this guy has no clue how to run a city.
  19. Don't you just love politicians??
  20. Bingo has been called.. I can't get anything passed you guys..
  21. There will be wholesale changes to the Diamond Jaxx coaching staff. Big announcement will be made at some point this week. Check the Diamond Jaxx website (http://www.diamondjaxx.com) in the next day or two for the big story.
  22. It's official.. City Council will meet on Friday to take the vote to determine if the Jaxx remain in West Tenn or go elsewhere.
  23. I'm sure that Brandon's sub-par performance in the Arizona Fall League didn't help his cause. I like Brandon but the Cubs had to make a decision at first base and they chose Dopirak over him. You can't protect everybody in the farm system and still keep the core big leaguers. It's a numbers game. I think the Cubs did the right thing. Having said that, I fully expect Sing and Russ Rohlicek to be selected in the major league phase of the Rule 5 draft.
  24. USSoccer.. we had a disagreement and yet we are still civil to each other. That's the difference between being a Cubs fan and a fan of the Red Sox. The people up in Boston take this WAY to serious. As for Schilling, he can be abrasive and very opinionated. That's why I like the guy. He is genuine, what you see is what you get. Schilling wears his heart on his sleeve and there ain't anything wrong with that.
  25. I'm not at liberty to say what is going on.. except to say stay tuned
