Hey everyone.. as everybody knows, Carolina will not be playing the final four games of their season against the Mississippi Braves. They close out their season with two games against Jacksonville today/tonight. Here are the scenarios for what has to happen for the Diamond Jaxx to win the second half. Let me first start out by saying that if the Jaxx and Mudcats tie at the end of the second half, Carolina wins the second half based on a higher winning percentage. If the Mudcats sweep the two games from Jacksonville and the Jaxx lose to Birmingham, Carolina wins the second half title. If the Mudcats sweep and the Jaxx win, the Jaxx must sweep the four game series against Mobile to win the second half title. If Carolina splits the two games with Jacksonville and the Diamond Jaxx defeat Birmingham, the Jaxx must take 3-4 from Mobile to win the second half. If the Diamond Jaxx lose to Birmingham, the Jaxx would have to sweep the four game series from Mobile to win the second half. If Carolina gets swept and the Diamond Jaxx win tonight against Birmingham, the D-Jaxx only need to split the four game series with Mobile to win the second half. If the Jaxx were to lose, they would have to take 3-4 from Mobile to win the second half. It should be an interestiing final four games of the regular season. Chris, get your broadcasting skills ready.. you and I are going to have some fun on Friday night.

Gotta tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.. It seems the Tribune AND the Sun-Tiimes are now reporting a Saturday comeback for Felix.. I'll be shocked if he is in Jackson before the end of the regular season let alone Saturday. It's like I said last night on the broadcast, this is the team we are going to go to battle with in the post-season. If Pie comes back, its icing on the cake..I'm not going to count on it though.

Felix sprained his ankle and then developed a bone bruise during his rehab work. He might not play another game in the regular season. Hopefully, he comes back in time for the post-season run...

Just once, I would love to see Pringles Park soldout for a Diamond Jaxx game without the fans coming to see a big league player. That place is so electric when people are in the seats making noise..

As long as I don't replace Ron Santo in the booth, I would love to broadcast the Cubs on the radio. I pity the person who has the dubious distinction of replacing Mr. Santo when the day comes. It will be a sad day in Chicago whenever that happens.

BTW, Brandon Sing has been named the Topps Player of the Month in the Southern League for the month of July. Sing was first in the league with nine homers and first in the league with a .732 slugging percentage. He was also second in the league with a .366 average and second in the league with 22 RBI's. Heck of a month...

Left-hander Renyel Pinto (7-2 2.10) gets the start tonight for the Diamond Jaxx. Lefty Ryan O'Malley will throw tommorow night for the Jaxx. Chattanooga is countering with righty Jeff Bruksch (3-5 3.74). They wanted Pinto on his regular four days rest.

I got tricked into it... last year they took a headshot picture of me and then went behind my back and did this. I guess its the price you pay for working with a bunch of comedians.

Great subject to talk about. I think everyone needs to remember something about the minor leagues. The jump from High-A to Double-A is without question the largest jump a player will make. The stat gurus can yak all they want about great numbers in Low and High-A ball, but until that person can put up those same type of numbers in Double-A or Triple-A, you can't totally gauge how good of a prospect the player is. It should be quite easy for the top prospects to put up large numbers in "A" ball. Pitchers throw a ton of mistakes up there for the hitting prospects to plaster and the pitching prospects can blow hitters away with a good fast ball or make hitters look horrible with a good hook. Once the prospect comes to Double-A, the cream starts rising to the top. You don't have many below average players in Double-A. If a prospect can put up really good numbers in Double-A or Triple-A (Murton and Sing this season, Dubois last year in Iowa) then we can talk about his possible impact in Chicago.

Food for thought on this discussion (BTW, I am still apoligizing for anyone I offended with my comments). I am of the belief that when the light bulb finally comes on and the prospect gets it, that's when you should seriously look at his numbers. In other words, I am not going to look at Sing's numbers prior to the 2003 season because he wasn't a really good prospect then. I know it sounds wierd, but if you think about it, it makes sense. If you look at what Sing has done, he has to be considered a top ten prospect or at least a top fifteen. Sing has to be protected this off-season because if he isn't, he will certainly be taken by someone else.
