    Since his promotion to Double-A Sean has been in the low 90's, topping out at 96. Yesterday, he was 88-90 all day long before he left the game.

    Listach will be joined by Dodgers Triple-A pitching coach (and a good friend of mine) Kenny Howell. A couple former big-leaguers on the coaching staff with a couple rich farm clubs?? Smells like a championship to me...

    Goony, that wasn't the decision I was talking about.. They (Veal and Gallagher) will pitch every fifth day, I was talking about whether or not the Cubs will stay in Jackson or go elsewhere in the Southern League.

    I might have Sean above Veal because of his emergence over the last three starts in Double-A, but Veal is putting up some really impressive numbers in High-A. He has handled his promotion a smidge better than Gallagher (not to say that Sean hasn't because he is becoming pretty special). Bottom line is.. I am going to have FUN watching these two guys in the Southern League next year (hopefully on a daily basis, but that decision hasn't been made yet).

    UNCLE!!!! Honestly, the conversation from yesterday was spirited, lively and unfortunately (and I blame myself for this) a bit too personal. I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression of me, so I want to apologize to anyone I offended during the exchange. Ultimately, I wouldn't have a job in this business if it weren't for you fans. The fans make this game great and that's why I love my job (even though I couldn't possibly call what I do for a living a job). If I sounded like someone who was defensive, arrogant and a know it all, I do apologize. One of the reasons why I don't care for starting a debate online is that you don't get to see interaction with the person your bantering with. Looking back on the forum/discussion, I would gladly like to take back alot of the words said. You people have welcomed me into your forum with open arms and the last thing I want to do is piss everybody off. It is obvious we all have different opinions on how the game is won. I think pitching and defense make up the majority of the game. Other fans think OBP is more important. In the end, it's only baseball. It's not like we are trying to solve the problems in the Middle East (please don't start a discussion about that here, I'm begging you.. lol). I say we all get together, have a beer, watch a game and see if we can all get a better perspective on the game we ALL love. Ron

    Sure you want guys to get on base as the game/season progresses.. All I am saying is that OBP is somewhat over rated because of the computer age that our society has gotten to. When I hear that stat, it's a stat that fantasy baseball geeks use and that's probably one of the reasons why I don't have alot of use for it. Guys get on base over ten times a game on average (maybe even more). What you do with those runners on base and how you get them in is how this game is won. That's why I'm not a big OBP fan because it's already built in that you have over ten runners on base per game (walks, hits, hit by pitch, errors, etc..). I completel respect everyone's opinion and would love to talk about this during a rain delay some time.

    and I respect Larry's opinion.. he's been a great manager and a fantastic broadcaster, but he is in the minority in his thinking. Look, I never said that I am anti-OBP.. I just think that other than the lead-off hitter, that stat isn't the most important stat.. guys hitting in the middle of the line-up have to have some pop in their bat or the ability to drive in runs. One stat that I do look at is hitting with runners in scoring position, especially wih two outs. That stat to me is far more important than OBP. Guys are going to get on base throughout a nine inning game. What you do when they get in scoring position is the key. I go back to the 0-4 night. Most of you have missed the argument all together. If a guy moves the runner over in three of those four AB's and that runner scores, the guy that moved him over did his job. Is it a sacrifice bunt? No, but it's just as good because he put the runner is scoring position so the next guy can drive him in, hence the importance of the runners in scoring position stat. Let me say this, I would rather have a guy up who hits .310 with runners in scoring position with a low OBP than someone with a high OBP with awful numbers in the clutch.
