  1. Yeah, that was my concern. I think that ARam would still get us back Kendrick and Figgins, so I would consider Pie and Marshall to Florida for Hermida, and if I needed to throw in Murton or Cedeno or even Guzman, so be it. We would jsut nee dto figure out what else it would take to get Santana away from Anaheim. A lineup that includes lefties in Hermida and Figgins, along with the addition of ARod would make this team MUCH better in 2008.
  2. Perhaps, but you don't think he'd waive it to play in LA? I do. He'd still be in a great lineup, and would avoid playing in the cold weather.
  3. Sign ARod. Leave him at 3B. Trade Pie and ARam to the Angels for Kendrick, Figgins and Ervin Santana Trade Murton, Marshall, and whatever else necessary to the Marlins for Hermida. That would give us a lineup of: 1. Figgins CF 2. Soriano LF 3. ARod 3B 4. Hermida RF 5. Lee 1B 6. Kendrick 2B 7. Theriot SS 8. Soto C And a rotation of: 1. Zambrano 2. Lilly 3. Santana 4. Hill 5. Marquis/young guy That lineup looks great to me. But, could it be done?
  4. I disagree. Colorado is still possibly able to deal Helton for something young and usable, while Atkins will shift to 1st and Ian Stewart will take over at 3rd base. I think they have a great young core to build around. Arizona won 90 games with the youngest team in the majors. Milwaukee is still a couple years away from feeling the pinch of arbitration and post arbitration. If any of these teams sign ONE key free agent, they all get better. They will all be looking at pitching, but even without it, they still look good for years to come. We have young guys who can play, and we have bigger payrolls, but we got lucky this year. We played in the worst division in baseball, and we barely pulled it out. I just don't see it for next year, short of signing ARod and finding a legit RF.
  5. I have to ask the question... did we just waste our best (last) chance at a World Series for the foreseeable future? I realize that free agnecy makes this sort of thing very difficult to predict, but a quick scan around the league tells me that: Milwaukee HAS to be seen as prohibitive favorites in the Central for the next 3 or 4 years. They are one pitcher and a healthy Sheets away from being LOADED. Their infield is sick. Arizona is only going to get better... and that is scary for the rest of the NL. If they can sign a free agent starter to go with that young lineup... OUCH. Colorado has a great young nucleus as well. Does it look like we are going to be losing ground to these teams to anyone else?
  6. Wow... I missed that one. Thanks alot, CBS...
  7. Da Meat Hook had a minor league deal this season, and is available. Is he worth the risk, or with Ward on the roster, is he just superfluous? Maybe it was just one last gasp before flaming out, and at 35, I doubt that he will repeat his numbers fromt his season, though his power numbers should increase with a new home park. A switch hitting, backup 1B with the ability (though that word may be a bit of a stretch) to play 3B and perhaps still a corner OF spot could be a nice addition. Depending on other moves, I think it's at least a question worth asking.
  8. Anyone have any ideas about offseason rules? Trades, roster cuts, etc?
  9. Not gonna happen, but still interesting... "One bad rumor making the rounds has Jocketty and La Russa taking charge in Cincinnati. The impetus for the rumor: Reds owner Bob Castellini owned a small part of the Cardinals and, as such, admires the organization. Reality: No way La Russa goes near a team unless it has a chance to compete."
  10. That's pretty much what every team president/owner says just before firing the GM. Oh, I can see saying all kinds of things. Saying your happy with the direction of htis team, thoug, is ludicrous. I realize it's August and hotter than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest, but do you see the number of fans in the stands at Reds games these days? Never in a million years would "happy with the direction of this team" come out of my mouth. They're old, and likely losing the players that fans still care to see in Griffey and Dunn. They have some talent in the minors, but not nearly enough to make you think that they can compete by building from within, and a GM who has made it evident that they won't compete by building from outside the organization. Basically, they won't be competetive for a long time, barring an unforeseen miracle. Make up lies, Castellini, but at least make them believable.
  11. Found this little nugget on CBS Sportsline this morning... "Reds president and chief executive officer Bob Castellini says general manager Wayne Krivsky's job is safe and he is pleased with the direction of the club, as reported by the Cincinnati Post." What?!? Seriously, what?!?
  12. for cash, according to CBS Sportsline.
  13. They have zero use for Izturis, but Eyre could be interesting. I wonder if Eyre/Jones/prospect could get us Gagne/Lofton? That would interest me greatly.
  14. You do realize that they always use the colors of the team hosting the game, right? This was not an arbitrary color choice.
  15. Sorry... been outta town. Will fix asap.
  16. PLease, oh please, someone check out Theriot's player profile on SPortsline. Look down at the "Recent Trades" section of his profile and see the trade he was in with Sosa and Garko. Why is that dude not in our league?!?
  17. Mooch.. Since I think I can get a reply from you, I want to ask this question again... What will happen with all the players who were recently drafted? Will they go into the free agent pool for immediate waiver claims? Thanks in advance...
  18. And I'm trying to build a team that people will say that about NEXT season...
  19. How in the world am I going to contend for the 1st pick in next year's draft when I play people who cannot score 200 points? That had to be intentional, right?
  20. It isn't too much to ask at all. I appreciate the league, and hope to be in it for 10 years. However, my request did sit unanswered for nine days. Tim, you are doing a fine job, and we are all grateful. If I can help you run the league, I would be glad to. This can be a lot of fun, and I certainly don't want to see it go down the drain, so if I can help, let me know how.
  21. Agreed. And it isn't like Tim hasn't been on the site. He's dropped a player within the last 48 hours. I like having a keeper league, but perhaps someone with more time should be the commish? And, perhaps someone who would simplify things just a little bit?
  22. Must not be, since you actually won. Oh.. and let me guess... you actually signed on to tell me that my roster was illegal?
  23. Must not be, since you actually won. Seriously. Stupid Gutless Choking Dogs. Now I've got ground to make up in the race for the top draft pick!
  24. There was an interesting piece by the Talented Mr. Roto that showed that Sheets and Ian Snell have been virtually identical since the ASB last year. Take it for what it's worth.
