  1. If anyone has a legit shot, I think it's him. I'd gladly have him beat it over Bonds. But who knows if anyone will.
  2. For those who pray, pray along with me for Matt and a speedy recovery. Baseball should be secondary to his health right now. For those who do not pray, still keep him in your thoughts.
  3. The privacy issue is something to consider, though I think it would be better in Chicago to be honest. I've heard that Boston media is relentless and scathing. Chicago, while a major media market with plenty of reporters, will be less invasive (so long as he performs). However, I don't know if it would really be different enough for Manny to be happy.
  4. Shame on the trade rumor. Bruce is almost always right, so I'm not going to hold my breath. As far as SweetEmotion, he seems like a guy who was trying to give out the best info possible. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Just hope his Reds source wasn't playing a cruel joke on him (and by extension, us).
  5. Just for old times sake, does anyone have links or pics of these monstrousities? Would be good to see some of these ugly uniforms for a laugh.
  6. I'm mixed personally, unless it's part of something bigger. I agree with you guys that it's not necessarily a bad trade, just an unnecessary one. We'll see what unfolds...
  7. Haven't seen this posted elsewhere, but O's are expected to land Burnett and Lowell for Julio, Bigbie, and their top pitching prospect (Hayden Penn). Per CBS Sportsline.
  8. I guess throughout the rant I was dwelling on the starting pitching. I was comparing the Cards to the Sox.
  9. My point is this: should he be in? Yes. I'm not saying otherwise. But just in his career span, I think it's feasible to rattle off names of many players who were a more intimidating presence. On numbers, absolutely in. I guess it just has more to do with lack of hype around him that could affect his getting in first ballot. I'm not alone in my thinking either. Check ESPN and Sportsline.
  10. It's not naive. Check all the sites that praise him online. They mention it's a real possiblity. He is a player that has been very good for a very long time, thus his numbers are gaudy. But does he demand attention with every at-bat or on the field play like a Hall of Famer? No. Besides, I'm not arguing that he isn't Hall worthy. I'm simply stating that he isn't first ballot. I don't appreciate being called naive for a sound opinion either. You are entitled to your own. Don't attack me.
  11. I was having an interesting discussion with a White Sox fan and compared them to that team, but for the wrong reasons. He talked about how they held the best records at the break and their big leads in the division. After thinking about it more, I think the team's postseason aspirations are along the same lines. Think about it. Both teams had very solid and reliable bullpens, which typically equal postseason success. Yet, they lack what Boston and Florida have had the past two years: shutdown starters. I'm not a huge Buerhle fan, but I respect him enough to say that he could get the job done in the postseason, but you're lying to me if you legitimately can say that Garland, Garcia, or Contreras can be shutdown POSTSEASON guys. Like the '04 Cardinals, this is a staff of solid to strong pitchers without the overly dominant arm needed for postseason play. As they stand now, the White Sox, I think, would lose in the ALCS to either Boston or Los Angeles. Frankly wouldn't surprise me if they lost in the first round. Looking for your thoughts here.
  12. First ballot? No. Will he eventually get in? Yes. Does he deserve it? More so than some, I guess. What do you guys think? How long will it take him, if ever, to get in? On a side note, it feels for the most part that the entrants in the HOF are more or less "really good" players, not "great" players. Well, except for Sandberg and Boggs of course...
  13. I don't know if anyone else caught this, but Kruk was on ESPN News praising Cox's handling of rookies. He cited Cox's handling of Furcal I believe and said that Cox just lets the rookies play. He said that the "one week to adjust" on the bench only develops rust. For once, Kruk's right (even if the topic is a no brainer). Cox has faith in the players and Baker doesn't. That seems to be the crux of the issue.
  14. I think it went that way more because of Bartman's actions than the slimeball asking him questions. I guess you're right. My point was only that at least the writer eventually relented and didn't press the point further. And, being someone who began college studying journalism (thank God that phase of my life is over with), it surprised me that he "gave up" at the point of no return. That's all. Classy was probably a bad word. But Bartman's gone through enough. True Cubs fans know that.
  15. What I found most interesting about the article was that, as I was reading it, I hated the writer for bothering Bartman. I thought it was borderline stalking too. But when he actually found Bartman, I thought it was classy that the writer just decided to let him go. I found it classy actually that when the confrontation came, it was merely about the Cubs win against Boston and his condolences, not that infamous night.
  16. Count me in. Here's hoping he can be part of a spark to launch the Cubs. There's always hope.
  17. Missed it for some reason. Rookie mistake...
  18. Official lineup posted: 1. Hairston CF 2. Walker 1B 3. Ramirez 3B 4. Barrett C 5. Burnitz RF 6. Perez 2B 7. Cedeno SS 8. Murton LF 9. Zambrano P
  19. Anyone see the link on ESPN.com in which Morgan proclaims that Pujols, not Lee, is his MVP this season? I don't have access to Insider so I can't read it, but he can't be serious. Cubs wouldn't even be in the position they are now were it not for Lee. We would have been selling long ago. Seriously, how does he even have an audience that listens to him? P.S. - Pujols is still a better choice than Kruk's crazy selection of Counsell a few weeks back.
  20. So is the plan then for a double header tomorrow?
  21. This team is receiving good pitching, but they have been helped by an easier month of June if I'm not mistaken. Not to take anything away from them, but to say they are competitive is borderline delusional. They have a lot more to prove first, especially since their team has remained relatively healthy (minus Bagwell). I know Berkman was on the DL for a while, but he's been back for a while. Cubs are still the only threat to the Cards in the NL Central and the only legit wild card team in the Central.
  22. I'm thinking .355, 48 HRs, and 140 RBIs. I'll hope to be guessing low though.
