  1. Why are Cardinals fans in here posting in our game thread. Post in the other game thread if you want, but to be posting in our game thread is pretty crappy. Quit pretending like you aren't taking joy in our faceplant.
  2. Yep. The gift that keeps on giving. Being in the same division as the Pirates.
  3. Like Dayton Moore. Or Josh Byrnes Or Jon Daniels. Jack Zduriencik seems well on his way with some weird moves made by the Mariners this season. i loved the branyan signing but what was the point of trading for jack wilson and ian snell??? still, i can't imagine that zduriencik could be worse than bavasi. what a horrible gm he was. I think a lot of people wanted Snell. Change of scenery?
  4. So John Hughes death at 59 caused Jim to think about how short life is, but his own brothers didn't?
  5. That was the free agent signing that shifted the balance of power in the NL Central.
  6. Are you talking about Milton Bradley? The guy that is OPSing .930 in home games? It's amazing how people still bash Bradley. He's not the problem. Of course you'd like his power numbers to be better, but my God. He nearly has a .400 OBP and his OPS is close to .800. I can't complain with Milt. I love Milt, but he was paid to OPS near .900 not .800. While true, with how bad he started it is going to take a miraculous 2nd half to get him to a 900OPS. Since the All Star Break hes over 900 I know. Like I said I am a big fan of Milton. Too bad it took so long to get him in the two hole. Just saying why some people are down on him.

  8. I hope they don't tank in the playoffs. Cause if they do we are looking at another Cardinal world series appearance.
  9. Because the other options range from sailors who might have undisclosed alcohol problems to drunken sailors who can't keep themselves away from the crack pipe. That's really not true. You don't have to hire the same crap that has been floating around the big leagues, you can go outside that pool.
  10. And this is why I hate Bob. No Bob, Ryan did not give us exactly what we needed. What we needed was him to come out and shut the Phillies out. It has happened before. Why does he always stand up for some guys, yet just attack Milton and Soriano whenever presented the chance?
  11. I understand some people have this irrational fear/hatred of Hendry, but do you honestly belive that given the limited money available and the circumstances that if he did trade Zambrano his only move would be to then overpay for someone as historically bad as Aaron Miles? The odds of some whiz kid being hired who can make magic with the very limited resources the Cubs will likely be facing this offseason and next season aren't pretty slim to nil. I'm not at all opposed to Hendry being replaced, but I'd rather it be when someone new coming in would actually have something to work with. Well he traded Mark DeRosa and added Aaron Miles, so yes I imagine he could do something pretty foolish again if given the chance. He values crap. Neifi Perez, Jose Macias, Aaron Miles, etc. Anyone willing to go with those guys over your own roster filler needs to be gone. Why is that so hard to accept?
  12. If the means to rebuild aren't there for the time being, why? What's the new guy going to do without any money that Hendry can't? Say we do get a chance to move a contract or two, don't you want the guy making those moves for possible prospects to be the guy that's going to be there building the contending team? Hendry's been reasonably good with the trades, so, no, I don't see the need to be paying someone new and paying Hendry to not have a job. This simply is not the ideal time to bring in a new GM until there's more payroll room. But the thing is, this offseason he will have to change things. Much like last year when he moved Dero to add payroll. So odds are he will move one of our contracts. I imagine He moves Z. But if he does that in order to create some flexability and then uses that to sign another Aaron Miles, it's going to get ugly.
  13. Couldn't we have explored a trade option? Using the money we didn't give to Dempster? I'm not saying we should've signed Dempster. The contract sucks. I'm saying signing Lowe would have been even dumber. It's just so damn frustrating. Everyone knew he was gonna regress big time, everyone except our stud GM.

I would hope so.

  16. As opposed to Jim Henry and Lou Piniella deciding that having another .500 season while missing the playoffs in heartbreaking fashion would be just dandy? I never said Jim and Lou dont want to win. I am saying that Jockety saw a weak division with no obvious favorite and knew if he made the right moves, they can take it and run, and thats exactly what they seem to have done. Cubs didnt have the money to fight back, Brewers didnt want to part with the prospects. This is no longer the lucky pixie dust Cardinals, they have a great team on their hands. Hopefully, in the end, they get knocked out first round and next year are left with what they started the year with. Walt did do this, the Rolen move made that obvious.
  17. Dempster has been better than Lowe this year. And it's not even close. But I still would've signed Lowe. He might be the perfect Wrigley pitcher. Dempster's better than Lowe, Lowe's older, and signed for more money. Of course you take Derek Lowe. Couldn't we have chose save money let Sean Marshall start?
  18. ... and have played in more games than any other franchise in ML history. Too bad they didn't have cameras when we were really good. Although King Kelly would have been less effective with cameras stopping him from cutting accross the diamond.
  19. The Cubs are doing poorly because Lou Piniella and Jim Hendry think it's funny. Z, Ted, and Aramis aren't really even hurt.
  20. Football is so boring to me. So no, I am not looking forward to the Bears season.
  21. Come on, we lost our two best pitchers and our best hitter. How the Cards doing if they lose Carp and Wainwright and Pujols? Those three are better than anyone on our team. And didn't Carp miss like a month this season? The big thing would be how they all got hurt at the same time for us.
  22. Hey, anytime you get a chance to lock up a guy who had one flukey good year after the age of 30 for the low, low price of just over $50 million cap-destorying dollars, you gotta take it. And he's funny. Have you heard his Harry Carrey? I mean you don't see guys like Lowe doing that.
  23. Keep thinking that. Like I brought up in another thread, the new owners are unlikely to fire the GM when there's likely next to no payroll flexibility in the offseason. Why hire someone new if they can't do anything about the mess they inherit? Because at somepoint there has to be accountability. Jesus, Hendry has to be fired for the past offseason.
