  1. When was the last time the Cubs had a catcher this good? I think it is safe to say that Soto will eclipse Barrett's best season with the club by a mile (.287/.337/.489, 16 HR, 65 RBI in 2004). Best season for a Cubs catcher ever was Gabby Hartnett in 1930 when he went .339/.404/.630, 37 HR, 122 RBI. I think it's unlikely that Soto will do anything like that, but Soto already might be the best catcher the Cubs have had since Hartnett.

  3. Wow, thanks Orel and ESPN. I had no idea what a four seam fastball was.
  4. "One percent of ballplayers are leaders of men. The other ninety-nine percent are followers of women." - John McGraw "No matter what I talk about, I always get back to baseball." - Connie Mack "Hitting is easy...you just wait for a strike and then knock the s**t out of it." - Stan Musial "I'd play for half my salary if I could hit in this dump all the time." - Babe Ruth on Wrigley Field. "The great trouble with baseball today is that most of the players are in the game for the money and that's it, not for the love of it, the excitement of it, the thrill of it." - Ty Cobb "The way to get a ball past Honus is to hit it eight feet over his head." - John McGraw "All pitchers are liars or crybabies." - Yogi Berra ""Show me a good loser in professional sports, and I'll show you an idiot." - Leo Durocher. "All my friends became Cardinal fans and grew up happy and liberal. I became a Cub fan and grew up embittered and conservative." - George Will
  5. Wow, that vintage Sportscenter segment they showed mentioned that in 1997, only one Cubs hit more than 13 HR and that was of course Slammy.
  6. It was so damp that day that both pitchers were virtually throwing spitballs.
  7. just a heads up for anyone who has never seen it.
  8. I don't think so. ERA is a statistic used to gauge a player's effectiveness as a pitcher, not as a fielder. That's an excellent point.
  9. I went with pitcher's error counting as an unearned run. That seems a bit contradictory.
  10. I love him so much right now he could come sleep with my sister.
  11. wrong. Saturday day games area blacked out from noon until 6 or 7 Apparently not because I'm watching it now.
  12. I guess this game being at 12 means that it won't be blacked out because of FOX, right?
  13. It's not that bad. There's a few guys who I wouldn't want to get in there against though. As a lefty, Randy Johnson would make me pull a Kruker.
  14. That's a damn cool commercial from Budweiser.

  16. The Lenny Harris special. I haven't swung a bat in a long time and my back is pretty messed up, so I'd probably strike out. Although I'd like to think I could at least put it in play.
  17. Except he steals bases! Berkman has 7 already.
