    my first reaction was that its gabby, but hartnett was a right handed catcher. it's definitely not babe herman or charlie grimm. im at a lunch meting right now, so when i get back i can investigate further. it is def late 20's early 30's.

    They really serve the same purpose. So Hoffs had one big game. Wards come up with some big hits. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. I really dont see it as a make or break. lol...OK, say they both serve the same purpose, do we want: Player A, 73 AB's: .342/.400/.534, 139 OPS+ Player B, 102 AB's: .216/.319/.402, 85 OPS+ That is hardly a tough question. Hoff has had more than just "one big game". He's obviously the better player at this point. Hoff also didn't sit his ass on the bench throughout an entire year, but played nearly every day in AAA where he also mashed the hell out of the ball, hitting .362/.393/.752 with 25 HR and 34 doubles in just 71 games. That's irrelevant.

    Boo, cousin Tolbert not in the starting lineup for the Twinks :-( Hurting his thumb earlier this year and missing two months really killed him. He was headed toward being a starter before that happened, I think. He's better than Punto, although I'm probably a bit bias.

    Robert Moses Grove aka Lefty: 1931 American League MVP - exactly 300 career wins - record 9 ERA titles - eight 20+ win seasons Philadelphia Athletics: 1925-1933 Boston Red Sox: 1934-1941 One thing to remember with Lefty Grove is that he didn't make it to the bigs until he was 25 years old. He was so successful with Baltimore (still a minor league team at that time) that the owner of the Orioles wouldn't sell him until he got the largest possible price. So Grove spent five years in the minors, putting up records of 12-2, 25-10, 18-8, 27-10, and 27-6, the whole time leading the International League in strikeouts every season. So theoretically, if his career had gone on a normal path, he might have had around 400 wins.
