coming into today's game, there are only 3 players in MLB with an OPS above .900: yordan alvarez PCA willson contreras -

shota pitched one inning, now braxton garrett is pitching for the cubs.

base hit, went to the bench. getting some rest before game 1 against the padres.

what are we doing starting shota today? makes no sense. just throw edward cabrera out there and have him asborb 6+ innings or whatever.

even though he's my favorite player, i was too young for '84 sandberg so i gotta go with '03 prior. for cubs fans of that era, we never really watched a power pitcher with that type of control and poise play for our team. yeah, maddux won his first of 4 cy young awards with the cubs but he was a finesse pitcher who painted corners. prior was something else entirely. 8 games of 10+ strikeouts. averaging 113 pitches/game (!!!!!!!!!!!!). 3rd in cy young, 9th in mvp voting...he was must-see tv.

i just have this mental image of him coming back from injury during bad weather and slipping on the mound or some horsefeathers. stupid, i know, but then again our 3rd baseman now looks like two-face after he got hit with a foul ball while in/around the on-deck circle.
