  1. The heart of all NCAA post season tournaments has been automatic berths for conference champions. this is another reason why they should go to a 16 team tournament so teams that win the non-major conferences would get representation into the tournament. The BCS also does not want to alienate a conference like the Big Ten by not taking Michigan last year. One reason is Michigan did show very favorably in the Rose Bowl. Also the last thing the BCS wants is for a major conference to leave and have a situation like 97 and 94 when there was 2 undeated teams with no chance to play each other. So it may not seem fair but the BCS will never not take a winner of a major conference. One last thing in a case like Michigan last year is that the Big Ten actually did well in Bowl games. In preception the conference was down but in reality it was pretty good. Part of the conferences preception being down would go into a team like Michigans ranking. So the last thing I would want to do is not take a team like W. Virginia that may have a poor preception but may actually be really good team. In reality W. Virginia may be a top 10 team. We really dont know.

  3. The only way for the fans to fix the problem is not to watch or go to games that we feel teams are being sent undeservedly. Since ND fans are not going to boycott and other people who love college football are going to watch, this isnt going to happen. I have mentioned this other places though. The current system is great for the fans because it gives us something to debate about besides who should be the MVP or who should win the Heisman. Yes it is probably unfair to Oregon and California and non big conference teams. Also like last year a team like Auburn could claim to be National Champion because they were not fairly eliminated. So this system does have its positives. Also a team like Oregon does have a remidy for fixing the situation. Win your conference. Yes the system is unfair to Oregon but its not like they didnt have a chance at all like someone like Fresno St.
  4. since this was a double post I will take a second to say it was really hard to defend ND and I will probably never do it again
  5. I am going to stand in and defend ND because adam was so cordial on the Lou Holtz post. If ND makes the BCS it isnt their fault and what do you expect them to do turn it down. What is wrong is the system. It would easily be corrected with a 16 team playoff like every other division has
  6. Did Brocious and O'Neill retire the same year? I hated it when those two guys would come up with men on base in the playoffs. jThey might not of been great players but they are the type of players that the Yankees miss. I would rather have Brocious up with runners on in the playoffs than ARod. I dont even believe in clutch hitting. I just seen him do it enough to atleast make me think about it
  7. Sorry Mizzou about being short. I really didnt mean to be. I was really replying to Fear The Cubs who was being a little snotty also.
  8. I fyou need to look it up I am sorry but the Yankees payroll did not explode until they started going after Mussina and Giambi and Scheffield. The Dodgers Mets and Orioles all had equal to or higher payrolls. You may have a hard time admitting it but the Yankees success in the late 90s was mostly due to home grown talent. With some role players splashed in. So I will say it again spending does not equal winning. It will keep you up from the bottom but it does not equal winning.
  9. I am implying that having winning ballplayers wins championships. For the success of the Yankees(even though they have never won with the highest payroll) and Boston(who has only won one championship) there have been alot of Dodgers, Orioles and Mets. Teams that spend and dont win. So before you go bonzo with the checkbook look at those teams. Heck I remember 91 or 92 when we go George Bell, Danny Jackson and Dave Smith. Spending does not equal winning. Sorry there is not facts to support it.
  10. When was the last time that the team with the largest payroll won the WS? It is not how championships are won.
  11. Thank you diffusion. I have heard Pierres defence compared to Lonnie Smith. Fast doesnt make you a good center fielder. Watching Pierre go after a ball is hilarious. If it wasnt for speed he would be awful. With his speed to correct his mistakes he is just bad
  12. The only way it matters for Penn St is if Texas loses next week to Iowa St or Colorado, which isnt going to happen. Has any school become as dislikeable as Colorado as of late? The fans running on the field and behaving like idiots just adds more to a pretty bad regime of Gary Barnett. As much as I dislike Mich, Ohio St and ND their fans have always seemed at least civil(yes not all fans are perfect) and for the problems these schools have had it is nothing like what has been going on at Colorado
  13. IF, this is true Meet your Last Place 2008 Chicago Cubs
  14. From day one I have had a great feeling about this kid. Of course this doesnt mean a thing. Maybe it is just because he seems so likeable

  16. could you imagine Giles back on the Indians. Sorry Twins and White Sox.
  17. I forgot about the 95 game. Was that the game that Biakabutuka (sp?) rushed for like 350 yards
  18. What do you think the chances of kerry having a Schilling type career. He seemed to really come into his own at 31 or 32. He had talent but could never seem to get it together until then. He really cut down on his walks and turned into one of the best pitchers in baseball. Kerry's walk totals are even higher than Schillings. If he could cut them down and the # of pitches he throws, could he trun into one of baseballs elite pitchers in the next couple of years?
  19. if this is true it probably is the first time this offseason that I am happy about a move that the cubs have made. Mabry in place of Macias would be a major upgrade. I do fear though that he would get too many of Murtons ABs in left though
  20. I read on Stltoday Cards forum that the cubs are the front runner in acquiring Mabry. Hendry has suppossedly offered him $1 million guaranteed. I like this move good bench player who can play corner outfeild spots and 1st and 3rd. Until last year he always had good OBP and solid power. I just would hope that he doesnt become this years Todd Hollandworth.
  21. As a Michigan St fan this is hard for me to say but they may not even win half of the Big Ten title but OSU and Mich always are in the picture and their game seems to always matter to who wins the Big Ten championship. When Illinois won in 2001 it was because OSU knocked off Mich and I think when Wis won in 1999 it was because Mich knocked off OSU edit I forgot to mention that i did mention also in my other post that even though some programs in the Big Ten may not have high graduation rates they would look for schools that did to join the conference. I havent looked lately but i am willing to bet that the big ten does have the highest graduation rates among the major conferences. Also though OSUs football graduation rates may be low how is the rest of the school. Also OSUs standards may be low compared to other Big Ten schools they would probably be high in the ACC or SEC
  22. The Big Ten has several things that it considers before it would take someone in. It is not just geographical. Of all the major conferences it has the highest acedemic standards. Not only for athletes but also the schools in general. So before they take someone in Acedemic requirements would have to be considered. Also they would probably look at graduation rates of athletes. Some existing big Ten teams might not be that good but they would not take someone in that was below par. I also dont think that the Big Ten would go raiding other conferences. So basically they are waiting on ND and will stay at 11 until or if that happens
  23. I wish i was computer knowledgable to post a link. On Yahoo sports in the ncaa football part Stewart mandel is predicting that if the Fiesta takes ND they will probably play Oregon. He does say he is just guessing. It has to do with the orange taking PSU and the Fiesta not wanting to have OSU for 3 our of 4 years
  24. I dont want to change topics but I was watching some of espns pre monday night football coverage and they were talking about reggie bush probably being the #1 pick in this years draft. I was personnally considering other players (they only mentioned leinart as another possibilty). I was wondering if there was any chance that brady quinn came out. He has probably vaulted himself into a top 10 pick. If he does well agains either OSU or PSU he might even get into the top 5. I was just wondering if some of you ND guys have heard if he is even considering leaving or if he has stated for sure that he is staying?
  25. I also have read something of that sort. I think it was actually in a old Bill James baseball abstract circa 83 or something. Some of the stuff I remember from it was that the person hitting behind you (except pitcher) has little effect on your performance. I dont remember why I remember this but the 5th place hitter is the 2nd most likely guy on the team to lead off an inning. Most important was it is better to get your best hitters the most ABs(top of the order) than it is to have a fast guy who isnt a good hitter at the top
