    I think Crosby had several real good shifts...did not dominate the game though I am glad we won. I dont think the Wings we clearly better. The got some breaks and battled hard. The Pens are making the same mistake the Hawks did, no forecheck. Yes I know its not their game, but you need to do it some. Take more notes from Anaheim. Its not the hitting that kept them in the series against the Wings it was the forecheck.

Leaves his feet all the time to hit... and I'm not talking about the Havlat hit at all. mostly rep...though he has been guilty of it interesting call on that play. if the puck is on Osgoods back, is it in the crease?

    malkin and crosby lead pittsburgh in minutes...not often a non d man leads team in icetime. I think the Wings are countering crosby/malkin on the 4th line by having zetterberg/fillpula double some on the 4th line also

    Yeah...Red Wings players really understand those boards also. Not sure the 2nd one wouldnt have happened, Wings had 2 unchecked forwards in front of Fluery also. I think that shift it was just a matter of time.

    At least you're willing to admit some of your Red Wings embellish penalties and deliver questionable hits which is more than I can see for most Red Wing fans. I think most reasonable fans of every team are aware that there is way too much embellishing in the NHL.

    I dont think there has been anything too blatant that hasnt been called. The 2 calls that were made were correct...though where are the diving police when Staal does it?

    gflore...its not like the blackhawks dont have players who embellish penalties, so please stop. Also there is no doubt the Hawks had players who only skill in hockey is they are questionable hitters(Eager) who do actually lead with elbows. I am glad that Blackhawks fans dont like them, but lets not point fingers for things that your own team is just as guilty of. Derwood...Before the Cap the Wings did have a large payroll, but they still had a good player development system and they never had a payroll that was more than a couple million more than the next highest team. So comparing them to the Yankees is not really accurate.

    I am 10 for 14 so far in picking series. I missed the Anaheim over San Jose in the first round(though I was very cautious and predicted a very tight series) Philadelphia over the Penguins(7 games though)....Boston over Carolina(again, I predicted a tough series)....lastly I predicted Carolina to beat Pitt. So I have only really just been dead wrong about 1 series. I have gone against Pitt twice and was wrong twice. All that being said Red Wings in 6

    This isnt taunting, just asking. Did Notre Dame make a bowl game? I know when MSU doesnt make one it makes the offseason seem like 9 months :)

    I think the Canucks are in a good cap situation also. At least I think I read that somewhere in the last week or so. They are supposedly looking to make a run at the Neidermayer bros also.

    Sopel and Walker #-o I hate that Q has such a hard on for Walker. Q's biggest weakness as a coach is he seems to favor guys like Walker and Eager. These guys are usually nothing but trouble in the playoffs. He basically let Pronger run around like an idiot for years with St Louis in the playoffs with predictable results. Worse of all Walker and Eager are not even future HoFers. So at best they are mediocre hockey players who usually do stuff in the playoffs that cost the team. Also brinoch, good breakdown. Just want to add that the Cap is looking to drop a couple of million this year and maybe up to 5 next season. At least that is what the scuttlebutt around the league is.

    He better be dominate and with a very cap friendly contract. Also depth on defense doesnt look so deep when you would have Campbell or Barker on the top pairing. Honestly I cannot think of a situation where this is a good move for the Hawks. I just don't see Bolland or Pahlsson as the No. 2 center on a legit threat to win the Cup, and I like Barker as a No. 2 defenseman with another year under his belt. I do think the Hawks are going to have to make some gambles if they plan on reaching the next level. Another thought is...since they have solid depth at wing, trade Kane for a dominate 2nd line center.

    They probably would have played one game anyway because of the timing of the bye week. The second game is likely because the Big Ten schedule ends so early as it is. I couldn't imagine them playing their last game on November 14. At Cincinnati and home against Fresno St. Not exactly taking it easy either

    On a different Illinois note. While looking at schedules for this years Big Ten teams, I noticed that Illinois is playing 2 non-con games after the Big Ten season. Is this using some sense and realizing that the Big Ten season ends 2 weeks too early?(especially since Illinois bye week is the last week of the season) Or is it just a scheduling quirck? or is a combination of both?

    I'll watch if the series goes deep, or if I'm sitting around and there is nothing else on. But yeah, I'm pretty burned out and don't think I can watch hockey at this point without having a big rooting interest. Rooting against Detroit only takes me so far. When the Red Wings have lost in the conference finals, I barely even paid attention to the finals. When they lose earlier in the playoffs, I usually take a round off and then get back into it. I certainly understand Hawks fans not wanting to watch the finals at this point. I also didnt watch the WS in 2003

    I think the Blackhawks will be wise to get Toews and Kieth signed long term. Should be there top priorities.

    Here is a list of NHL free agents this off season. The scuttlebutt is that the cap is coming down 2 million and drop again in 2010. I am not sure where the Hawks stand with guaranteed money next season. http://www.sportscity.com/nhl/2009-nhl-unrestricted-free-agents-by-position/ I still think the best option for the Hawks is to let Khabibulin and Havlat go. Both are probably get paid more than they are worth.

    I agree with you. I think Babcock told the team to give it all for 5 minutes. If they didnt score than they would play another day. He surely didnt want a long OT. He probably would have preferred they lose one early than play 2/3 OTs.

    On a couple of Red Wings sites I have been to there is several threads with these main 2 themes 1. Detroit made it to the Finals in spite of Bettman trying to stop them 2. NHL moved Finals to start on Sat because Wings have injury problems to favor the Pens I dont think any other sport has a fan base of just about every team thinking there is some sort of conspiracy to screw their team and help other teams

    Good season for the Blackhawks. Like Cyno said they were in every game except one in this series against a team that no one thought they had a chance against. Good series NewUserName metaphorically skates by and shakes hands with all the Hawks fans.
