  1. I say we go get Johnny Damon this offseason. CF- Damon 2b- Hairston/Walker 1b- Lee 3b- ARam Rf- Burnitz(i would love him back) SS- Nomar(him too) LF- Murton C- Barrett If Nomar doesn't sign, I would have Ronny in there. And I would maybe go after another corner OF.
  2. Except now there's no Sammy to entertain people. And crankier fans.
  3. The same could be said for Rafael Palmiero before this morning. He's never been THE guy on his teams, but he was a slam dunk, first ballot guy until he failed a drug test.
  4. I think that Jim will do nothing. The asking prices for some of these guys are ridiculous. I think we will stand pat and pray that Nomar, Wood and Williamson. Jim will try his best to get something done, but I don't see it happening.
  5. I wouldn't be disappointed because of the weak market this year. Hopefully getting Wood, Williamson and Nomar back will be like acquiring guys without having to give up anything. I would want an impact player in a trade and I just don't see it happening, which is ok.
  6. Totally agreed. People say, "he's much more comfortable hitting from the right side". Then why doesn't he do it all the time? I wish Teixiera hit from the left side all the time(25 HR lefty, 0 HR righty).
  7. Yes, Pedro is Dominican. They'd give the US a run for their money for sure. I say let him play for whoever he wants. Its his choice and if the people of the DR accept him, why not?
  8. Umm...Derrek Lee?My bad, I didn't see you correct yourself. Posted too soon.
  9. CF Hairston 2B Walker 1B Lee RF Burnitz 3B Ramirez LF Hollandsworth C Barrett SS Cedeno
  10. I can't believe someone else has played Johnny Tackle! That was our tackling drill of choice in freshman football. It was so much fun. We used to have recess in a big parking lot. In winter when it snowed enough we'd have almost the entire 6th, 7th and 8th grades out there. When someone yelled "Johnny" it was like a thundering herd. A parking lot? Wow. You guys are way tougher than me. At least I had pads on.
  11. My friend tells me that the Cubs have worked a deal with Tampa Bay and a trade for CF Joey Gathright could happen soon. He has major speed and could probably compete for playing time in CF. Has anyone else heard this?
  12. Yeah, that's what happens when your 2 best hitter(Drew and Bradley) and the NL's best shortstop(Izturis) go on the DL. I feel their pain. Oh, yeah and that Gagne guy... 3 best hitters. Jeff Kent is injured too. Oh yeah, him too.

  15. I don't know if they dislike Barrett, but maybe if they had to choose, they'd throw to Blanco. He's been around longer and knows players, umps, etc. IMO, its the experience factor.
  16. Hard pressed? Among NL catchers with 150 or more plate appearances, 8 have a higher AVG, 13 have a higher OBP and 1 has a higher SLG. Michael Barrett is a talented athlete, and has pop in his bat. But like many Cubs, he's terribly unrefined and has a terrible approach at the plate. His sub .300 OBP is a huge drag on this offense. It's truely an awful number, and that alone makes it impossible to call him productive. A handful of homeruns doesn't change his season long inability to get on base. You're right, his OBP is bad. I would love to see him take more pitches and get more walks, but that is not the way he hits. He goes after pitches he likes early. If he took more pitches, he might work himself into bad hitters counts and be even less effective. OBP is important, but hitting from the 8 spot, its not the most important thing. It is unlikely he would be hit home by the pitcher/pinch hitter up after him, anyway. If he were up in the order, that would be a different story.
  17. Jeez, you're a little hard on Barrett, too. I don't think he struggles defensively, he's 6th in the NL in runners caught stealing. That's pretty respectable. Offensively, yes, he swings at a lot of pitches. But you'll be hard pressed to find a more productive catcher offensively. In the NL, he's 3rd in total bases, 2nd in RBI, and 1st in HR among catchers. You are fooling yourself if you think Barrett and Walker are the problem.
  18. That was my ballot. I think fans need to remember that the game determines homefield for the WS...so fans really should pick the guys performing the best to give their league a better chance at winning. I think the voting process is a joke. It's a matter of time before a team's fans figure out how to hijack a vote and vote in the worst possible playeres for the opposing league. Wow. I never even thought of that. That would be a great idea if our team was in contention for the WS...
  19. If it were me picking the teams, Kenny Rogers would be staying home. What he did was just horrible, but Francona picked him based on his performance on the field. Now he is going to be a distraction all week, taking away from actual All-Star festivities. If I were to manage, I would absolutely NOT put him in. He doesn't deserve it. And no doubt he would be booed, taking away from the fun of the game. What do you guys think? Should he pitch?
  20. Right next to the Purdue Cham.... nevermind. :P Ouch. That got me, too :( .
  21. My friend unlocked Satchel Paige in MVP 2004. He has a 100 mph fastball, 70 mph knuckle, 65 mph palmball and an 80-something slider. I haven't gotten a hit off of him since last July.
  22. Good stuff. The thing about Greg is that you know what you are going to get from him. He typically gives you 6 innings with 2-4 runs, which gives you a chance to be in every ballgame. Is he overpowering? No. Can he win a game for himself? Not very often. Does he consistently give you a chance to win? Absolutely, that's all you can ask from a starter.
  23. I took Chase Utley in the 12th round and he has been great. Plus, he gets all of the PT at 2B with Polanco gone  .
  24. Well it is safe to say he will not be looking at the Cubs bullpen for help. He will take Prior and maybe Zambrano. quote] I don't think Tony is going to take Prior. Obviously, he's been hurt and hasn't started many games. He's been lights out when he has, but I just can't see it. I don't think that he likes Prior personally, either. Did anyone else read that excerpt in SI from the book about LaRussa(written by the Friday Night Lights author)? He really bashed Prior, said he hadn't "earned his stripes" or whatever.
