  1. Now somebody needs to tell Theriot to not try to steal second.
  2. Cordero threw one that trickled away from Bako, Fontenot was out by a good 10 feet on the throw.
  3. It takes 6 balls to walk Soriano unintentionally.
  4. What kind of a problem does everyone have with Pie? The guy's hitting .320 since Perry worked with him this year, and he can't even get half the starts against righties.
  5. Pie could score on a good single. C'mon Ward!
  6. Despite Pie's walk and defense tonight, he could really use some kind of big memorable hit to stick in Lou's mind that he's actually been hitting well the last 2+ weeks.
  7. We've had the good Wood all year. His peripheral stats are fantastic. He's allowed 10 baserunners in 14 innings, and has a 4.1 K/BB ratio. It's just that 8 of the 10 baserunners have scored. More of a luck issue than anything else at this point.
  8. Other than that Cedeno punk who's only hitting .380 ish, no. Do I really have to put every last ounce of sarcasm in green font?
  9. Revisionist history. DeRosa is a perfectly capable starter and above average. He was absolutely destroying the ball before this 1 for 17 stretch. He probably could use a day off every now and then, though.
  10. DeRosa looks like he could use a day off. Too bad the Cubs don't have anyone else that can play that position.
  11. Man, the unrequited vitriol towards Pie in almost every thread is mind-boggling.
  12. So that makes him what, 1 for 3? #-o 7-23. He was 4-26 prior to it. It takes a while to dig out of a sub-.200 hole before the overall averages start looking respectable. More than 5 starts at least.
  13. Is Northwestern the only "Big 6" team that has never made the NCAA tourney?
  14. If I were allowed a say (and Ramirez is still unavailable), I'd go with 2B Fontenot (he's been on fire lately...this is an instance where riding the hot streak might just be OK) 3B Cedeno RF Fukudome 1B Lee C Soto LF Soriano CF Pie SS Theriot P Dempster DeRosa and Johnson are playing like they need a day off. Pie and Cedeno are playing like they need a day on.
  15. Felix Pie is hitting over .300 since Lou and Gerald worked with him on his swing. I feel like a broken record.
  16. Pie still deserves to be starting whenever the opposing pitchers throws with their right hand.
  17. So, Gammons says the Cubs need a LH hitting outfielder....if only they had one of those...
  18. I don't mind Theriot getting playing time, especially if he keeps getting on at a .380 clip. Would be nice to at least mix in Cedeno more often to prevent any kind of tiring effect late in the year, which it could be argued happened to Theriot last September.
  19. It's a byproduct of spacing out the playoffs games so far. In baseball, the difference between a 4 game series and a 7 game series is 4 days. In basketball, the difference is 8 days.
  20. Not a ton. It's mostly affected by the small number of plate appearances. Pie is definitely much closer to Soriano as a hitter than Fukudome in terms of patience and discipline. However, he's been a very productive hitter at every phase of the minor leagues, and he'll be a productive hitter on the major league level if given the chance. The real Felix is much closer to his production over the past two weeks than it is to his production over the first two weeks.
  21. What, in major league play, shows you that Felix Pie is a better hitter than Reed Johnson? You can show me all the projections in the world from baseballprospectus that tells you that, but that doesn't mean jack. Felix Pie has been a disappointment this year. He strikes out at an high rate, and doesn't walk. If that doesn't scream Corey Patterson to Cubs fans, nothing will. Felix has looked overmatched this year many times. This year OPS vs. right handers: .603 .661 Guess which one is Felix and which on is Johnson. Don't want to talk about Pie's .224 batting average? Or his horrible .291 obp? Don't want to talk about Pie's .333 batting average over the last 2 weeks since Lou and Gerald worked on his swing with him? Or his horrible .400 obp?
  22. Here, forgive me for quoting myself from another thread: They took the time to work on Pie's swing, and despite a marked improvement, they refuse to give him an equal share of playing time. Reed Johnson has been awful the past two weeks, and that includes his two good games against lefties. The only thing Reed Johnson has been doing better than Pie over the past couple weeks is leaning into pitches.
  23. Continuing to start Reed Johnson over Felix Pie against righties is mind-boggling moronic. Pie gives you more power, faster speed on the basepaths, better average, and better defense.
  24. I feel the need to keep up the "Free Pie" promotion. So, stats since Lou and Gerald worked with Pie on his swing (April 21 vs. Mets, so now there have been a total of 11 games): Felix Pie: 5 starts, 25 PA, 7 H, 1 2B, 1 HR, .333/.400/.523/.923 Reed Johnson: 10 starts, 50 PA, 8 H, .190/.280/.190/.470 Lou, play the hot hand in center, for once.
  25. Remember, there is a time delay between live action and the picture you see. I wonder if the scoreboard guy screwed up a bit.
