    I'd plead innocent if I were him. I don't know. Maybe he's tweaking their approach or something and the result will be a better hitter in the long term (with the power back), but for whatever reason it's sapping power right now. Nothing scientific behind the idea, just a thought that seemed to make a little sense. I'm completely at a loss as to why the HR's are suddenly down so much. OK, Lee is coming off a wrist injury and Floyd's getting old and Soriano is streaky...but Jacque only has 2? Barrett was way off his mark when he was here, too. Coming into this year, HR's were the one aspect of hitting I wasn't worried about and now they worry me the most. Actually, Barrett was on pace for a new career high IIRC. But I agree that homers concered me the least this year and instead, the lack of them has become the biggest problem for this offense.

    I remember Williams shut us down on the home opener this season. Maybe we'll put a 2 spot up against him.

    Iowa falls 9-5. Webb gives up 3 runs in the top half of the 9th. Soto finished 2/3 with 2 BB's. Pie and Fox were each 2/5. Matt Craig was 3/4 with an RBI.

    I'm worried about the entire team's lack of power. How sad was it that we weren't even close to hitting a homer in that bandbox of a park tonight?

    If we don't HR in this craphole of a ballpark, we'll be lucky to get to 100 HR's on the season.

    Our pen is fine. Marmol is lights out Howry has been great after a terrible start Wuertz is ok Dempster was great until the injury and should be able to find it Woody if yesterday was any indication will be fine. We need offense and we need it badly. Our pen is not "fine" Marmol, Wood, and Howry are solid I agree You are completely forgetting the lefties - Eyre has been decent lately while Ohman can't get anyone out. Wuertz and Dempster walk way too many guys to be successful. The pen lost us Friday's game and tonight's game as well as the momentum on Sunday. Why doesn't the offense get any blame? The offense deserves ALL of the blame. You hold the opposition to 4 hits in 10 innings and you still lose. There's something wrong with that. And it's not like this offense just had one bad game after a string of good games. This offense has been bad for the good majority of the 2nd half. It's just maddening when you know you don't have any HR threats and when you can't hit Wandy Rodriguez.

    Tennessee makes Samardzija a winner in his first start in AA. Holliman pitched an inning and two-third's of relief though. Not sure what the reasoning of that could be. He gave up a hit, a walk, and struck out two in his inning and 2/3's. Roquet recorded the save as he retired the only batter he faced. Nice game for Chris Robinson going 3/4 with a double and two RBI's. Salas was 2/3 with two RBI's and a walk. Kyle Reynolds had two singles and an RBI. Daytona lost 8-5. Mendez went 6 allowing 7 hits, 3 runs, 2 K's/1 BB, and gave up a homer. Taylor took the loss as he got hit hard in the 2 and 2/3's innings of relief he pitched. 6 hits, 5 runs, 2 ER, 2 K's/0 BB's, 1 HR given up. Matulia went 3/5 with two doubles, a triple, and two RBI's. Harvey hit a solo shot for his 7th HR of the year. Peoria was shelled, 14-1. Bad start for Papelbon: 4 IP, 9 hits, 6 runs, 4 K's/1 BB, and he gave up three bombs. Siegfried gave up 6 runs in the inning of work that he pitched. LeClerc was 2/3 with a triple and Lalli was 2/4. Not much on the offensive side for the Chiefs. Iowa now down 6-4 after Howard gave up 3 in the 7th. Mateo had an ok start going 6, allowing 6 hits, 3 runs, 4 K's/2 BB's, and allowing a homer. Soto is 2/3 with a walk, Fox is 2/4, and Pie is 1/4 with an RBI.

    Samardzija surrendered two hits and a run in the 2nd and recorded three flyball outs. 2-1 Tennessee in the bottom of the 2nd.

    Samardzija gives up a single in the 1st, but was able to strike out 1 and get two ground outs.
