5 runs through 5 innings isn't "getting into some trouble?" I understand your point and I see what you're trying to say, but he's just going to get worse. He's not fooling anyone, and I'd like to not have to use Marmol or Wood today if at all possible. We've got Lieber. Looks like he'll be in for at least 1 more inning, though. What Vance is alluding to is that we have a 5 run lead. Marquis has only thrown 70 pitches (even though he hasn't been very good), but you don't want to use your bullpen up when you can get another inning, possibly even another two innings out of your starter because of the lead we have. Now if he gets into some trouble, then you take him out and you go to the pen.

Let's see. The Cards bullpen sucks, they're facing one of the best offenses in baseball and the Red Sox are pretty damn good at home. But sure, they'll sweep them. I'm not an optimist by any stretch of the imagination, but this crap is really getting old.

Cubs lose 3 in TB, as the Cards get swept at home by the Royals. Cubs sweep 3 from ChiSox, as the Cards take 3 in Beantown. In effect, Cubs gain nothing in the last 6 games (post-Sunday night). As much as I would kill for a sweep of the SouthSiders, I could so totally see this series of events playing out. The Cards aren't sweeping the Red Sox.
