Let him walk and use the money you save to trade for a big. John Salmons can replace 85% of what Gordon did offensively and is much better defensively. You need to allocate your resources, and with Salmons signed to a good deal, Gordon is a tab bit redundant. Don't get me wrong, I really like Gordon, his is the only current Bulls jersey I know, and I know hes a terrific offensive player. But we have to be smart here, and being smart is using our money to trade for a low post player like Bosh if available. If no good post players are available, I'd hold onto that money for 2010. That's kind of my feeling as well. If they let Gordon walk, though, it's probably going to be VERY ugly in the beginning of the season until they learn to adjust without him. If we let him go, we'll struggle to make the playoffs.

This team played so well without Deng that I think Paxson's first thing he'll do come draft day or July 1st is look for ways to ship out Deng so he can re-sign Gordon without going over the tax. I still do think that Luol Deng has trade value around the league so if you can get a team to jump on that, you have to do it. I realize BG's not the best defender in the world and I realize that he does have his share of bad shooting nights. But look what he did in the playoffs when he did have those bad shooting nights (outside of the game 6). He still scored close to 30 points in games 5 and 7. He can get to the hole and can get to the free throw line when he's struggling, which was the biggest knock on him his first few years in the league. Scoring is such a vital part of the NBA and I know John Salmons has given great production in his role. But ultimately I think the team would be better if they had two legitimate scoring options in Gordon and Salmons to help out Rose rather than just going the cheap route and letting Gordon go for nothing. I understand the 2010 plan as well, but it can definitely be done where you keep Gordon and still try to take on one of the big guns in that class. The best case scenario is keeping Gordon and trading for Bosh or Amare by giving up Deng, Tyrus, and Hinrich (among others, obviously).

Exactly. I never thought they'd end their season like this. They've got the table set to be legitimately competitive again and I hope the front office doesn't [expletive] it up. I agree with both you. It's very hard play against the Celtics, the refs and the NBA front office yet they did, and I was very proud of how well they played considering nobody gave them a chance. I think the biggest things we've learn from this series is the following: 1: Boston's window isn't as open as many think. This is the second straight yr they needed to go 7 games against an "inferior" team just to survive in the playoffs. And withou KG against the Magic, I suspect the C's will be done in 5 games. 2: Derrick Rose is going to be the new superstar point guard off the league. Make no mistake he still have holes in his game that I suspect he is going to work on during the summer (reducing turnovers, shooting the 3 better, etc, etc), but the one thing I saw was Rose knew at times this was his team and he lead this team. He needs to do this on a more consistant basis, and when he does he will be with Williams and Paul as the next elite PG of the NBA. 3: Joakim Noah is the prettiest player, but he earned my respect for the way he played in this series. He is like Tyson Chandler in a lot of ways, except he isn't as injury prone. I haave great hopes for Noah going forth. Noah and Rose are the heart and soul of the Bulls moving forward. 4: Tyrus Thomas? After the first game, did anybody hear his name on a consistant basis? I really hope the Bulls don't give Thomas an extension, and in fact I hope to see Thomas traded this offseason. He can be a great shot blocker and rebounder, but he imo is simply too soft to play in Chicago. When the Bulls needed, he wasn't there. 5: I don't mind bringing Gordon back, but I wish we could trade Deng first. Thank you for a great series Chicago Bulls. Boston go f-yourself you thugs. Agreed, I'll be a little frustrated for a couple of days but many didn't even expect the Bulls were going to make the playoffs this year, let alone take a first round series to seven. I know Gordon was off the last couple of games in the series, but if we want to be back in this spot next year, we have to re-sign him.
