  1. It was done in 2008. That team got on base a lot. Was able to run a little. And had some power, but didn't live or die by it.
  2. Bennett is his "backup" technically too at WR, so that could mean more targets to Bennett now that he'll be on the field in more than just the 3-wide personnel. The problem is Hurd is the guy that is in that position when Earl goes to the slot. Hurd is not very good. They could keep Earl in Hester's spot with Sanzenbacher in the slot. But he's not very good either. This team is still better on offense with Hester in it. Rather it's a decoy or not, inferior players are on the field if he's not.
  3. Bennett is actually a pretty good punt returner. Doesn't have Hester's ability to make people miss in the open field, but he also doesn't screw around and gets right up the field.
  4. Double double for Zeller. Of course every freshman big for IU has gotten a double-double in his first collegiate game, including the great Tom Pritchard. Really good to see Oladipo and Sheehey play a lot more under control to start their sophomore years. Disappointing that Verdell Jones and Christian Watford didn't really lead this team like they should be able to. I would like it if Zeller is the leading scorer for most games, because that would mean they are going inside and a lot less 1-on-1 play. But there are going to be times where those 2 are going to have to take over games in order to win it. Turnovers still a problem. But 14 in the opener is fine, especially since 7 came in the first 10 minutes. Defense was terrible when Zeller was on the bench. Lot of pressure on the kid to be the defensive stopper and the focal point of the offense. Edit: I take it back. Jones had 7 assists and only 1 TO. I'll take that from him every night. Point still stands on Watford.
  5. Putting on a show to start the 2nd half. 55 points and Watford, Jones and Hulls probably have combined for 10-12.
  6. 1st game and Zeller already punched in the nuts. Welcome to college basketball big man.
  7. It actually kinda sucks if Hester can't go. I thought he was turning the corner as a WR until Monday night when he didn't do crap. But still, I'd rather have him on field over Sam Hurd and Dane Sanzendropper.
  8. I don't even care about a #1 WR, anymore. I just want a guy that can win in the 3-step game. When the OL is going bad, they can't do 5-step drops. So, 3-step drops are necessary. The problem is no WR (other than Bennett) can get open that fast. Roy Williams is a FA after the year. Can easily replace him with a draft pick and get an upgrade, IMO. Mohamed Sanu is a guy I'd really like to see in a Bears uniform. Not a burner, but the Bears have enough speed outside. Good size, with good hands, good strength and can get open quick and run with the ball after the catch.
  9. Sorry guys for a crappy season. I wasn't as active as I'd like to be due to personal/work related stuff. But I plan to be back up to my old self this coming season. As for the payment, I honestly sent a check sometime early in the season (May-ish) and it was not taken out of my account so I'm assuming it was never received. I'm willing to pay the entire league renewal fee if everyone is Ok with that. As for trades, I'm willing to make trades. I can take on some points and some bats (1B, OF in particular).
  10. Sure, but if the hitters are still overly aggressive isn't it difficult to judge from the stands whether a guy is actually throwing strikes that would be considered good strikes in a more patient league? It's not like they have Fox broadcasting with the K zone or anything. It's not perfect, but it's not that bad, either. If nothing else, you can tell by the hitter's swing path and how much the have to reach, pull their hands in, etc. I always loved Cabrera. One of many odd likes of pitchers throughout the years. HA! I remember that. Strange.
  11. I almost think they'd move Chris Williams back to OT before they put Omiyale back in there. If it's an injury that keeps 1 of the OTs out more than 1 week, then I think they promote Levi Horn from the practice squad or sign someone to compete with Omiyale. How much worse can a P-squadder or a person off the street be?
  12. Don't need nearly as much focus on the running game, although QB pressure will definitely be necessary. We just don't match up well with their passing game, IMO. Someone will need to be glued to Pettigrew the entire game along with double coverage on CJ. Hopefully Peppers will be able to go on Sunday. Yeah, no Jahvid Best will help. Should be able to stop the run with 7 in the box. I do think you see a lot of safety help of Calvin Johnson. Bears had a lot of help on him first matchup, and he still beat them. I think with Conte, they'll be more likely to keep him deep due to his speed (much faster than Harris was). As for Pettigrew, just can't let him get a clean release. They sucked Urlacher in last game on the playaction. Hit him at the line and Urlacher has a chance to get back into coverage.
  13. They haven't done the white/white this year either. I like the blue on blue too.
  14. Yup. Still rocking the Cutler throwback from that game. I've got a Hester one....it's been gameday jersey all season. Where'd you get the Hester one. I've been looking for one but can't find it.
  15. Giants are probably underdogs @ SF, @ NO, and vs. GB. The Eagles are probably going to be favored in 3 of their next 5. Dallas probably favored in the 1st 4, since Buffalo is in Dallas. If the favorite wins all of those non-division games, it gets pretty interesting in the East.
  16. NFL scheduling is stupid. Bears play twice in 6 days after having 14 days between games. But they have to play a team coming off of 13 days off. That's really my only concern with this game outside of the Detroit pass rush. They are a fresh team that has been gameplanning for the Bears for a couple weeks. But I still think the Bears are a better team and teams actually havent' fared that well on the road after the bye week this year.
  17. Klutts and he didn't really destroy him like he could/should have.
  18. Garza got signed to a 2-year extension. Don't really like this move, but it's not going to kill this team either way. Only 2.6 guaranteed and only worth 6.55 Mil if he stays until after 2013, which is unlikely. I was really hoping the youth movement would continue and the Bears would go after a C as early as the 1st round if Peter Konz (Gabe Carimi's old roommate at Wisconsin) comes out this year. Mike Brewster looks like a 2nd round pick now, that I would love just as much. But given that Garza is not likely to go back to OG (Williams, Spencer, and Louis are all better guards) and the Bears won't likely bring in a rookie early in the draft to sit for a year, I think the C need gets pushed back some. And with 2 young players at OG and OT, I'm thinking the Bears won't even go OL early at all....again. Garza's been much better than Kreutz was last year. But he's probably been the least effective lineman on the team. He can be upgraded.
  19. So, now the Falcons are the "team du jour" in the NFC? Eagles couldn't do it, so Falcons are the new team to come on late ala GB last year. Falcons still get Saints twice. A Tampa team that has beaten them already this year. At a good Houston team. At Carolina, which is going to be a tough game late in the season.
  20. I don't think so. There is almost an inevitability that you will have a chance to put him in there later. It's not a desperate need right now, and while it might be a somewhat cowardly stance, I'd rather not upset the apple cart. They are playing well and you might as well reward them by keeping it going. Yeah, that's the way I'm leaning. If he was able to go last night and was 100%, I was more than willing to throw him in there. But 3 games in a row is a trend. And honestly, Spencer has looked good enough at RG to keep in there (though he seems to have 1-2 really bad plays per game...see Babin late hit near goaline last night), and Louis has looked like a natural at RT. He's holding his own in the pass game and has been wonderful in the run game, most of the yards last night came to the right, other than the big Forte cutback run, which a big gain was there on the right side if he stuck with the play. Like you said, there will be injuries and Carimi will get in there. Worst case scenario, you get him in on the goalline as an extra blocker now then you start him from scratch next year.
  21. They've run blocked well all year, especially on the move. I don't think I've ever seen a team run this well consistently outside of the tackle with guards and C pulling. I was glad to see some designed rollouts in there also. I thought they did a nice job of turning it around after it seemed the Eagles were starting to get some pressure and the running lanes were starting to get clogged (end of 2nd quarter, start of 3rd). Again I have to ask though, do you mess with the OL now and put Carimi in there? That's the 3 best OL games of the year and probably the best 3 games the OL has played in the last 2 years. 3 sacks in the last 3 games, and 1 or 2 of them were Cutler's fault.
  22. Take out the Calvin Johnson 73 yard TD catch and the Jahvid Best 88 yard TD run, the Bears only allowed 234 yards to the Lions in the other 45 plays. And that's still with a couple big gains thrown in. The Bears haven't allowed a really big play since then. If Best doesn't play, they won't get a big play in the run game. New safeties + with 100% focus on Calvin Johnson = Bears win this game. I think the Bears keep them under 20 also.
  23. Man, I'm so hyped right now. Huge win. What about that offensive line? Cutler did get hit a lot in the middle of the game, but they did a wonderful job pulling the guards around the edge with the TEs and OTs setting the edge at the line of scrimmage. Lance Louis was very strong in particular. Game balls to Lance Louis, Earl Bennett, Lance Briggs, and Jay Cutler who made some tough 3rd down throws on the money. If not for the 2 fumbles, Forte would have played excellently as usual.
  24. HOW ARE THE BEARS GOING TO STOP THE EAGLES? OH NO! Like I said before the game, they ain't the only offense on the field. Put up 30 on them and only allowed 17 on defense, including 7 points from a 41 yard drive. But I'm sure Detroit will be favored by 6 next week. Keep hatin ESPN!
  25. He should have never even been tackled there. He tripped over 2 of his own linemen. Should have leapt over them and kept running.
