  4. Tyrus Thomas is going crazy in this game.
  5. oh jeez, i doubt my perceived condescension can come close to yours, "sport". leave it alone. and i didn't avoid your point, i simply noticed that it was faulty. It's not faulty. Cato June was allowed to test the market, even though he played the "most important position in the Cover-2" at a pro bowl level. The Bears look like they don't want to give Lance Briggs a market value extended contract to play, what you call the most important position on the defense. Both of these guys were late round pics and Cato June is a silghtly oversized saftey. If the players and play at this position is so important, why aren't these guys locked up right away? I doubt we'll see a bunch a song and dance routine when it comes to Tommie Harris' contract. That's because Tommie's position is much more crucial to the performance of the defense. It's one of the easiest positions on the defense to fill and it is by no means the most important tampa-2 position. I've never heard anyone associated with this defense ever say anything like that.
  6. you're saying that tampa has been wasting money on derrick brooks, too? no, in the tampa-2, the will better be fast, he better be quick, and he better be equally as proficient against the pass as against the run. the sam, on the other hand, is the position of no consequence in the tampa-2. the defense is built around the excellence of the will, and the bears have the right guy for it. The Tampa-2 isn't a defense built around the will linebacker. the will is the most important position in the scheme. No, the defensive line is the most important part of the scheme. The ability to get pressure with only the front 4 without blitzing is the big reason why the Tampa 2 works, and the team will always pick pass-rushing defensive linemen over any linebacker. The two safeties and the WILL are the next important, and the other two linebackers and the corners are the least important in the scheme. The big change that Chicago has made is to modify the system so that Urlacher becomes more important to the scheme to utilize his talents. Correct. Every defensive line position is more important than the WILL linebacker in the Cover-2.

Then why are the Bears and Colts letting their Pro-Bowl will linebackers walk? the bears are letting their pro-bowl WILL walk? i thought that they franchised him. if you have any other info that could be pertinent to bears fans, you'd best let us know. No need to be condescending, sport. Nice job avoiding my point entirely.

  10. So, if he sits out the whole season, he gives up all that cash. I can;t imagine this would garner him more money in the long run. Unless he get's moved, he'll give up a year in the absolute prime of his career, over 7 million dollars, and he'll have the "malcontent" label which would likely cost him money in his future contract. I have to beleive he's trying his hardest to force a trade right now and if that doesn't happen, he's going to play. I think he may have gone a little too far as it might be difficult to come back after all this "I'll never play another snap for the Bears again!" stuff.
  11. This is mostly true. Unfortunatly for Briggs, he plays the most easily replaced position in the defensive scheme. He's a very good player in the system but a lot of linebackers would look pretty good playing next to Urlacher and playing wil linebacker behind the Bears defensive line. I don't think the drop off in production that would happen by losing Briggs is enough to justify spending the money on him. It looks like the Bears agree. I'd rather save the money for the plethora of players that will be requiring new contracts within the next two years. I agree that Briggs has the easiest position to replace, but that doesn't mean you do it just for the heck of it. I'd rather pay Briggs big money and keep the unit together than gambling with someone else having that type of ability and work ethic. Well, obviously the Bears aren't doing it for the heck of it. They think the resources required to extend Briggs are better spent elsewhere. I agree.
  12. Oh, right, the information gained from nine or so innings that he has thrown against a collection of minor leaguers, with some major leaguers tossed in. Is it the 1.44 WHIP that excites you? San Diego is in luck, I mean, Termell Sledge is now a HR hitter. It's not who he's facing. It's that he's been able to consistantly throw the ground balls. He's been able get groundballs for exactly 9 whole innings against players, many of whom will not be in the majors this year. Tell me you can tell the difference. He's locating his sinker well, who he's facing has no bearing on his mechanics, or his location. Tell me you can tell the difference. I'm not a pitcher, but I bet if I was facing some little leaguers I could induce some weakly hit ground balls. On the other hand, I bet my ability would be more exposed against college hitters, they'd rough me up. The key is to throw at the first little leaguer's head, just to get 'em all thinking. Then you pound the outside corner and they'll step in the bucket and hit weak grounders all day. :Takingnotes:

  14. The Patriots are terrifying.
  15. This isn't true is it? Please say it's not. Not for good, but I was wondering why Plesac keeps doing color. I think he's still talking. God he's horrible.
  16. what a crappy lineup. at least give us murton or epatt :( Murton's arms are tired from hitting so many taters and his eyes are tired from taking so many walks. He needs to rest.
  17. Since Hester was brought up, I figured I'd post this. I know, I know. Old wounds and such. Still...
  18. That's code for I thought this needed revisiting. Jacobson's whole quote was: I see no reason to call him a douchebag, unless you're just too narrow minded to see why this isn't' a good thing for everybody. Either that, or you somehow feel that being in the directtv circle somehow makes you more 'elite' than non-directtv subscribers, and you just don't care about them. Anyways, as far as Jacobsen goes, I'm sure he has other motives, but he's looking out more for the general fan base in this case than either DirecTV or MLB. This is anti-competitive. Competition is always good in any market. There won't be any competition for directtv for EI, which is incredibly bad for consumers. You may not notice it too much for the first year or two, but I guarantee everyone will by the end of the deal. It's all part of J.R.'s Macho Man shtick. It doesn't have to make sense.
  19. Other than that lull at the beginning of the second half, I liked the way they played. They moved it around and other people besides Tucker and Taylor got involved in the offense.
  20. I think he's talking straight more right now that any other interview I've ever heard. quite critical, quite honest. What is he saying? got some other things going on right now. I have it TIVO'd and will try to give a recap tonight at the end of this thread. on Hill---thought he was ok. has to get velocity up on high fastball to get it by the hitter, but overall good outting. a little bit stonger today because has been sick in previous appearances. on split squads - wishes could see Cotts today (probably reconsidering that right now) but also wanted to see Hill on the pen --- if get chance to use situationally will be real good. thinks they will be able to use situationally. on Wood --- threw ball well. not only had strike three to get out of the inning, also had strike four because pitch before should have been a strike. bloop to lead off the inning (the much debated Izturis error), 0-2 on next hitter but, got under a slider resulting in a HBP. got in trouble trying to power fastball past Sledge. as long as healthy will do well, stuff is there. on Prior --- Len "what do you need to see tomorrow?" Roth "I don't know what I need to see, I know I would like to see," him throwing the ball similar to 2 years ago, even if results not there. from there can fix everything. just a matter of getting arm strenght back and not being cautious. alot of pitchers wait for something to happen, eventually it doesn't, and then the pitcher starts to let it go. Plesac likes to see the look in the eye/body language/pace/etc. Roth agrees. has told Prior results don't matter right now, want to see him throw ball the way he can because "we all know what's gonna happen when the stuff is back to where it should be." on Dempster --- last outting kept ball down in zone, good extension (got him stiff, but that's what they want). when Demp misses has to miss down, need to get him throwing the ball downhill. on Lilly/Marq --- been impressive, fun to work with, tough mentally, goals in mind. Marquis is all business, has something to prove, setting out to do so. worked with Roth, but alot of work on his own. Good stuff. Thanks for the update.
  21. Tucker is on fire.
