    I doubt it will turn Grossman into Manning, but used effectively, I think it could help him out for reasons I mentioned above.

    It's a good thing the game wasn't in Texas because they use the scoreboard lights to tip Mark's pitches.

    Just to nitpick this one part, I'm not sure how shotgun remedies this. The shotgun snap is something that would be a far more difficult snap to handle. It'd be like someone having trouble driving an automatic, so we put them in a stick shift instead... I'm speaking strictly as far as handling the snap here... I'm not really sure that's true. Is it easier to catch a ball tossed to you or to complete a Center/QB exchange? To be honest, I'm not sure. Most of his fumbles in the QB/Center exchange seem to be timing issues and not "grasping the ball" issues. He either pulls away too early, or the ball hits has hands and he closes them late. I don't think shotgun snaps would be hard to handle unless they are bad. Admittidly, that was kind of a reach.

    I'm not dismissing it out of hand. I'm refuting the incorrect statements with regards to its benefits and dismissing the way overblown attention people pay to this story. I don't get the same vibe as you in regards to the coverage, but whatever. I think implementing the shotgun will help Rex and the offense.

    Who is advocating the shotgun as a fix all that will take the Bears offense from average to elite? I don't see anyone doing that here. It can and may help Rex as his footwork is terrible and should improve by not having to drop back from center. It may also help him get a better look at a defensive alignments. Also, Rex seems to have some trouble with the QB/Center exchange. It's something we should have considered implimenting a long time ago. No one is advocating running the shotgun on every passing play but mixing it in could be very advantageous. Teams use the shotgun for a reason. It's not just window dressing. Dismissing it out of hand is bizarre.

    I've seen a lot more than one game where his reputation didn't really hold up. Blowing a routine play yesterday that would have ended the inning comes to mind.

    I think it is just bad heading from downtown. The Brownline splits off before Addison so I would guess the Redline would be fine North of there.

    This one hurt, in a lot of ways. I'm on the Pie bandwagon. It's obvious he's really working on his patience. You could see it in the first at bat. Sure he ended up striking out looking, but that pitch was close and he probably wouldn't have hit it that hard. Not perfect, but it shows he's thinking about it and working on it. Good to see. Mark Derosa is a slick fielder. I didn't know he could flash the leather like that.

    Over the course of the season things tend to even out but as far as a single game goes, luck can play a pretty large factor. Do you disagree? Yes, luck plays a part in the game. No, the Cubs didn't lose yesterday because of bad luck. The BABIP for the Cubs from yesterday is indicitave of bad luck to me. But since it usually evens out in the end, I'm not particularly upset about dropping one here as we'll likely get lucky at some point in the future. Edit: Wanted to add that I'm not saying luck was the only factor that contributed to the Cubs losing yesterday, just that it was a factor.

    Isn't that pretty much guaranteeing a fine or suspension? Should a major league manager be carrying out vendettas for his fanbase and openly saying he's going to instigate something with another team because a guy hit a home run and hopped? Sammy rubbed it in pretty good and it was a meaningless homer. I would think it was pretty lame if a similar thing happened to the Cubs. See, I didn't see it happen, and I haven't seen a clip. Did he just hop more than usual, or did he walk down the baseline or something? He hopped and then kind extended his arms like he was an airplane as he ran to first base. It wasn't that big of a deal but I can understand why it would upset the White Sox.
