Even if it doesn't hold up under appeal, it sends a big message that the commish isn't going to tolerate this stuff. I'm fine with the message, I just don't really like how he's going about enforcing it. This sort of ex post facto enforcement is just a bit troublesome to me. I'm fine with year long suspensions for certain actions, I just think the lack of precedent will cause problems, and could ultimately undermine the whole movement towards stricter enforcement. You are basically forcing the union to fight you on this, as opposed to coming to a mutual agreement. I was thinking about this same issue this morning. Are they going to retroactively punish a guy like Leonard Little? I think the NFL is setting themselves up for a needless battle here.

My issue is that I don't really see much of an upside to Miller. I do see an upside with Guzman.

I think we can all agree that Marquis didn't have a good outing. We're all arguing shades of gray here.

But that doesn't affect those stats. You can't give up 3 earned runs in the first and pretend to not share in the blame of a loss. Sure, but it wasn't a poor outing. No, it wasn't poor, it was terrible. He bounced back from a bad first inning. I think there is something positive to be taken away from his performance today. I would also say poor and not terrible. I think he managed to prevent a terrible outing by boucning back from a shakey start. But that is splitting hairs on my part.

i can't envision a situation in which they'd score a single run, let alone many. Maybe if the Cubs trade izturis to a team they are playing and he makes 4 consecutive errors. That's the only way I see it happening.

I don't know how high any team's winning percentages are when they go down 3 runs in the top of the 1st and they have Jason Marquis on the mound. :? sure, for this game, but people are writing off Marquis for the length of the contract because of one bad inning I think people are writing off Marquis because of one bad career.
