2006 Cubs Convention: Passes on Sale Monday 11/7
adamb0719 replied to Mizzou's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
I was thinking about going as well. Where is the best place to get a ticket? Will the Cubs site tell me everything I need to know when the time comes? -
Whoever wins the Big 12 can hopefully pull some sort of miracle out and beat Texas. That team needs to lose. I just don't see it happening. Raisin- Who else does UCLA play that could be a problem (besides USC). Is it pretty likely they will both be undefeated come time for their game?

Fixed. Sorry it was coaches poll. I take the midwest thing as a good reason. Just seemed to me that a lot of people were complaining about ND for a situation that has happened to more than just MSU/ND. However to avoid another ND debate I will leave it alone.

The new coaches poll Week 9 USA Today Poll 1. USC (53) 7-0 1,540 2. Texas (8) 7-0 1,493 3. Virginia Tech 7-0 1,428 4. Georgia 7-0 1,357 5. Alabama 7-0 1,277 5. Miami 5-1 1,226 7. LSU 5-1 1,164 8. UCLA 7-0 1,136 9. Florida State 6-1 1,003 10. Notre Dame 5-2 934 11. Boston College 6-1 870 12. Penn State 7-1 835 13. Ohio State 5-2 803 14. Oregon 7-1 712 15. Wisconsin 7-1 677 16. Texas Tech 6-1 603 17. West Virginia 6-1 539 18. Florida 5-2 513 19. Auburn 5-2 427 20. TCU 7-1 383 21. California 6-2 276 22. Minnesota 5-2 189 23. Northwestern 5-2 179 24. Fresno State 5-1 134 25. Tennessee 3-3 133 I do have one question. Why did so many people make a big deal out of ND being ahead of MSU, but no one cares that Miami is ahead of FSU? It is the exact same scenario.

Was at ND game today. Great game. I did get a little worried when the 2nd half began and BYU brought it to within 5. I was told by the guy next to me 9 ND records were broke today. Quinn is really starting to bring some serious Heisman talk. No chance he will win, but just being invited would be nice. Didn't see the game today but Northwestern  They were cheering at the stadium when they announced the score. NU is not > ND...but I don't want ND to play them, thats for sure  Bama game sounded real good, as did the Michigan game. I really wish Tennessee would have won. ND's schedule gets weaker every week. Did I miss anything real big today? That is the only bad thing about going to games, missing all the other action.
-
I wasn't planning on going but I came across some free tickets so I will be there as well. Haven't told my work yet, so that could be interesting. ND favored by 18.5. I don't think they will cover.

Better statistics could have something to do with it... Stats are overrated.

This is very distressing news, considering Bonzi is probably the third most famous Ball State alum in the world behind David Letterman and Papa John. Well, you guys would probably put him behind Brad Maynard as well for the regional loyalty factor... I briefly met Allen Rossum, Ron Powlus and Bob Davie at a meet the team thing in 1997. Rossum seemed very nice, Powlus seemed gracious, and Davie seemed pretty cool, although I still can't forgive him or Ty for what they did to the Irish over the last decade or so. I met them both in Muncie. They used to come into where I worked all the time. Well Bonzi did, Wallace was only once. Bonzi has been in a few bars a well when I was there, which I did forget about. He was actually very nice then and bought me quite a few shots. One of my friends played in some Bball tourney with him, so I reaped the rewards of being with him. However he is very demanding and not a good tipper. He leaves autographed pictures. I think the coolest thing anybody in my family has done is my dad went to a quarterback club meeting in 86, at a bar in DC. He did not know it was going on that night, but was in the right place at the right time and was allowed to stay. He spent his whole night sitting next to Jaws at a bar, while Montana, McMahon, Marino, and many other QBs of the year drank there. I believe it is his proudest moment. Makes me feel real good.

I met most of the Notre Dame teams from 88-96 at various times. Most notably would be Chris Zorich, the Rocket, Bettis, Mirer, Brooks, and Todd Lyght. I actually had a pretty decent conversation with Zorich. I met Rasheed Wallace and Bonsi Wells at a restaraunt I used to work at. Bonsi is pretty rude. Wallace didn't hardly talk. My old roommates best friend plays in the NFL so I know him, but he is not by any means a big name. I have played on a few soccer teams with Jamar Beasley back in High School. Does anyone ever feel like they are too old to be asking for autographs when they see people? I never ask because I feel stupid and always wish I had later.

Here is FoxSports mid-season awards. Was unsure what thread to post this in, and didn't want to start a new one just for this. http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/5003668?print=true

Just heard on the radio Mazzone is definately an Oriole now? That is very shocking. EDIT: Just found thread in Transactions.
-
Would it be better to start a new thread that pertains to ND and it greatness/suckiness, instead of having multiple threads dealing with the same issue? That way all the conversation would stay in one place. I am getting real confused with all the different talk going on.
-
I'm not saying they shouldn't be. I was just pointing out the ND does not attempt to schedule weak opponents to pad a schedule like many top 10 teams do.
-
FSU beat Miami, both 1 loss- Miami ahead of FSU Florida beat Tennesse, both 2 losses, Tennesse ahead of Florida Oregon State beat Cal, both 2 losses, Cal ahead of Oregon State ND is not the only one that has a situation like this. If you are going to complain about all of them, fine. I just don't get why you have to point out only ND.

You can't knock ND for not having a tough schedule. When these games were scheduled there is no telling how PU, UM, MSU, UCS, will be. They play these teams every year. They also play on a semi-regular basis FSU, Tennessee, PSU, BC, GT and many other well known schools that have a history of success. They don't pad their schedule with schools that no one knew existed until they played a big program. This year a few of those teams had bad years. That happens. ND does not change their schedule based on who is going to be good and bad. They stick with the teams they play regardless of how good or bad they are. If you really think the reason they don't join the Big 10 is because they are afraid too, then you really don't know what you are talking about. If they were to join a schedule it would be the Big East, which they already have ties with (all sports including football) and it is a very real possibility in the next 10 years or so. It is all financial and tradition based. They already lost money with the BCS, and if NBC does not renew, a conference may become a real possibility. Also ND gets jobbed on as many calls as any other school. The USC games are well known for this. Hence the ND fans getting suspicious when Carroll said no replay. There is a precedent for ND getting hosed by PAC 10 refs, espcially in USC games. Notre Dame has had MANY bad calls go against them. The first one that comes to mind is the 02 BC game. They lost 7-14, but did score a TD that was ruled out of bounds. If that were called correctly, tie game.

-Cubs in 2004, I was at the Mets game where the collapse began Good point Truffle, I forgot about the Cubs' 04 collapse. I can't believe I blocked that out...that one was probably more damaging than the 03 collapse because I have no doubt that that team would have at the very least gone to the World Series had they made the playoffs, whereas the 03 team was more of a surprise and I was happy they made it as far as they did. And Adam, I have always followed ND (I had no choice really, all my mom's family and all my dad's family are ND fans with maybe one or two exceptions) but I am only 18. I wasn't old enough at the time of the ND-BC 93 game to understand the significance of it (although I firmly remember my mom visibly crying as BC nailed the game-winning field goal). And since then, ND has been too painfully mediocre for there to be any scarring losses...although the 1/1/01 Fiesta Bowl was no fun. Being a Bulls fan there haven't been any painful losses in my memory, just painful teams, and the Carolina Panthers are the same way. (Losing fifteen games in a row when you have second-half leads or ties in twelve of them come to mind.) The Super Bowl loss to NE was not scarring because I was thrilled that no one could ever doubt that that Panthers team was for real anymore after that game. That was a longer response than I expected to post, but there you go. Got it, age didn't come to mind. I believe my first taste of heartbreak with ND was the 89 Miami game. Then the 90 season, with losses to Stanford and PSU, both when ND was #1. Then the 91 National Championship with the phantom clip (f-the refs), then the 92...well the list goes on and on.

Bettis. Play Bettis. Jacksonville is among the worst in run defense, and Pitt is among the top in run attempts per game. Plus Bettis always gets it in the RZ. I am going with Bettis and Holmes on my team. Sitting Parker and Jones. Boy was I wrong. Bettis has 0 points for me this week. However stick with Bettis this week. Always does great against Cinn. and Parker is slowly losing his starting job. Bettis could have huge day.

I really hate when people do this. However it is Sox fans so...

Indeed you are very lucky -Eagles just about every year, especially the two home playoff losses in the NFC championship game -Flyers in 2000 blowing a 3-1 series lead against the Devils -Flyers in 2004 losing to Tampa in Game 7 -Flyers getting blown out by Buffalo in a game 7 -Cubs in 2003 -Cubs in 2004, I was at the Mets game where the collapse began -Holy Cross against Kentucky and then Marquette -PSU against Iowa and Michigan in '02 ([expletive] refs) -PSU against Michigan in '05 (see above) I thought about a list as well, but I don't want to take up too much space. Cursed Bears/Cubs/Irish. What year was that fliers game that went into a ungodly amount of OT's. I remember I feel asleep watching it and was awoken at like 3 in the morning to the yells of GOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!! Scared the hell outta me. Also PSU/Iowa is one game that I do remember as being one of the worst officiated I have ever seen.

Yes the fair weather fans are a problem as well. Bothers me when my friends who I never knew followed ND call me to talk about how good they are this year, and they are suddenly huge fans. Same thing happened with the Cubs in 03, and they are now starting to fall off pretty fast. I actually had a hard time getting people to come to Wrigley with me this year (maybe its me :-s ). Pretty much every team gets fans out of the woodwork, but not all teams get just as many people saying how much they suck. Regular season, I would say that game is as a good, if not better than any I have seen in the past 10 years. Of course I had a lot more emotional involvement in this game. However it does make me feel a little better that just about everyone else in the world feels the same way. If they lose to Tenn, or anyone, they are not BCS eligible. You seem pretty sure they are gonna lose that game. I sure hope you're wrong.
-
You are a lucky man. Did you not allows follow ND? I guess I am somewhat unique in that I have a family who not only watches each game multiple times, but discusses every game play-by-play at family gettogethers. Floating around my family is every game from 86 on. Also due to my uncle working with the University, I get each years highlight tape for free, so of course I see those millions of times. Too many heartbreaks. Also regarding the O-line I think 2 of the players are 5th year eligible, and they are more than likely going to return. Good chance McKnight is out for the season, but he will then be eligible next year as well

I normally agree with what you say, but come on. ND is not a top 5 team. IMO VT, Texas, USC (obviously), Georgia, Bama, LSU, Auburn, PSU, UCLA could all give ND a run for their money. Also FSU or Miami could very well beat them. They are 100% better than last year, but they are not there yet. I try not to look ahead till next year either. They will be great, but ND (much like the Cubs. Bears) always find a way to let me down. Tennessee will be tough this year, and I actually feel BYU will be a tough game. ND played their butts of on Saturday, but they can't play to that caliber week in and week out. If they could MSU would have never beat them, and they would have killed UM. They are a great team, with a lot of talent that Ty didn't know what to do with. However they are not top 5. Top 10, thats another story. I don't direct this at you, but I really wish some ND fans would come back to earth. It is real easy to get excited, and I am guilty of that as well. However we are just setting ourselves up for failure. Perhaps I have become a cynical due to how my teams have treated me in the past. However we must remember that this is a rebuilding year. I said Charlie will get his first NC in 2008. I still stand by this. I may get excited and say next year, and I have even mentioned it this year, but realistically they will need at least three years. I think expectations have gotten too high. When the season started I said they would win 7. If they still wind up only winning 7, I will not be disappointed. While this team can win out, I do not assume they will. Tennessee will be a tough game. BYU can be a tough game, depending which BYU shows up. The rest ND should win, but these two games worry me. With that being said ND will play in the Orange Bowl this year :D Also it is good to see all the ND-haters come out of the woodwork to complain about an "irrelevant" team. I really enjoy defending them, especially against scUM fans.

1st. Wouldn't know because I didn't see Penn St/Michigan, but I am guessing that since all I hear from everybody is ND/USC was the best game of the last 10 years, that you are in a minority in your thinking. UM/PSU did get overshadowed by the ND/USC game, which is unfortunate, but I really don't think it was a better game. However, like I said I didn't see. 2nd. They got their tails whooped in the second half? Are you really complaing about the fumbles? Wow. Also if MSU scored without thinking about it, why didn't they score at will when ND was coming back, the game was on the line then. 3rd. There is no way to counter that, other than to say that may be true, but it also may be very, very wrong. Pure speculation. 4th. You feel bad for Willingham and think they would have been the same? That may be the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard. Willinghman is not a good coach. period. He drove that program into the ground. They also had experience last year, when they were 6-6. I really am not going to spend to much time on this since it is so absurd. Give me one thing that would indicate Ty is a better coach than Weis. I am going to guess you are a Michigan fan.
