  1. If I wasn't dying to see USC beat UCLA by 3 scores before, I am now. UCLA has got to be the most overrated top-10 team I've seen all year. We've been winning ugly the last 3 weeks and it's bound to end sometime, but I'll enjoy this now. Thank goodness we don't play Oregon this year. Personally, I think UCLA has as good a shot as ever to beat USC this year. It's the Oregon States and Arizona States that worry me right now. But you must give some credit to UCLA (especially Karl Dorrell, Drew Olson and Mo Drew) for getting UCLA to comeback despite being down late in the 4th quarter in each of their last 3 games. Winning ugly won OSU a championship a few years ago. Doesn't matter how you win, as long as you do.
  2. Heres a question: Giving how things played out for ND how far do you see them dropping? I can't see them losing much ground since they did lose on the last play to the #1 team. Anyone else feel the same way?
  3. Yes he is quite large. Sorry bout PSU Truffle. From what I hear it was a hell of a game; not to mention controversial from what I've read on hear. There schedule is pretty easy from here out though, right? Pretty good chance at winning the Big 10?
  4. Just got back from the ND game. What a game. I have never heard the stadium that loud. The best game I have ever attended. It was real cool watching Gameday also. Got some good pictures. While ND did lose, it does not really bother me as much as I thought it would. They proved that they are legit, and they stayed with the best team in the nation till the very end. I was very confused by the end, but after watching replays I think it was a good job by the refs. The missed field goal was huge, and I did say when it happened that it would cost them. However I must say that ND IS BACK!!
  5. So I saw a Trojan Horse at the pep rally today, and heard a few people mention green jerseys. If Weis tries to match what Devine did in '77 I will be pretty upset (unless they win) :D
  6. Bettis. Play Bettis. Jacksonville is among the worst in run defense, and Pitt is among the top in run attempts per game. Plus Bettis always gets it in the RZ. I am going with Bettis and Holmes on my team. Sitting Parker and Jones.
  7. I will be there. I need to buy tickets though, because who I was supposed to get them from fell through this morning. What time do you plan on getting there?
  8. Florida St. vs. Virginia has a bit of luster to it. When you take into account that it will be a nationally televised night game on ESPN, that UVA was blasted last year in Tallahassee (when the sports geniuses were POSITIVE they had the better team), and when FSU is looking like the team they were during their dynasty period, I'm pretty sure this merits "marquee" status. What would the ACC be this year without the Big East teams Stuy? By the way, congrats on your season so far, that defense is very good. Same could be asked about the ACC last year. I was shocked that VT went over and won the first year. I am looking forward to a VT-FSU championship game. A rematch of the 99 BCS game would be nice. Not a given that it will be these two, but very possible.
  9. Didn't want to take any attention away from Brady :D Do you think Drew has a chance, at least of getting an invitation?
  10. This is the current Heisman Watch on ESPN total votes Matt Leinart QB USC Sr. 6 6 3 0 0 63 Reggie Bush RB USC Jr. 6 2 7 0 0 59 Vince Young QB Texas Jr. 3 7 5 0 0 58 Brady Quinn QB Notre Dame Jr. 0 0 0 7 4 18 Marcus Vick QB Virginia Tech Jr. 0 0 0 4 0 8 http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/heisman/index I think it is Leinhars to lose, but it may lost to his own teammate
  11. I have a question, maybe not the best place to ask it, but I'll give it a try. I have a pic in my signature that was enormous. I reduced the size at photoshop by 50% but it was not showing up in my sig as being reduced. Now it is. Did I do that, or can a mod change it? If it was a mod thanks and if you could tell me how you did that it would be great. If it was not a mod than I am thoroughly confused as too how it shrunk suddenly.

  13. By the way, if you've got 30+ pages you need to get Premium! Best bargain on the 'net. :) ha ha, right on! I have premium...but I don't get it :-k This thread is only 23 pages long for you I see. I am assuming it is the ads that make it longer.
  14. A comparison of Quinn and Leinhart so far this year. The winner of this game may very well be a frontrunner for the heisman. I had no clue they were this close statistically Quinn com-att-int 124-190-3 (65.3%) 1621 yards 13 TDs 55 (long) 324.2 yards/game Leinart 108-166-3 (65.1%) 1646 yards 12 TDs 67 (long) 329.2 yards/game

  16. I could see that. There is a solid boundry to compare it to. You can look and tell if the ball his the line, or what side of the poll the ball left the park on. Also isn't something that would come up very often in a game One of the other things was whether or not a ball hits the pole. Gammons said that with the new designs of parks it's only getting harder for the umpires to make the correct call. Now that I think of it, he mentioned having it as a resource when it comes to the possibility of fan interference. Fan interference.. [sarcastic laugh] I like the idea when it comes down to those singled out things.. but not every pitch on if its a ball/strike. Then it would be pointless to have umpires on the field. They could watch the replay after each pitch & the game would take forever. On top of that the strike zone always seems different. There is no way that would be possible. I could see a little red flag getting thrown onto the field after every pitch. Know that I think about it, if there was instant replay Z would have likely had a no-hitter in 03 if I remember correctly.

  18. Yeah...the games are not quite long enough now! I could see limited replay in areas that Peter Gammons mentioned earlier, but I'm sure that it would be all or none. Didn't see that. What did Gammons propose?
  19. I hope MLB never goes to instant delay. That would be terrible. So much of the game is objectional anyway. Could you image a replay for balls and strikes. That would absolutely ruin the game.
  20. So that's where other people's new message flags are going! Seriously, so you're saying that basically everything is showing up as new for you? Yea, when I come back. After I clear them it is fine, but when I go to another site and come back, they reappear as unread.
  21. I am set up monthly but just got some student loan money in. If you want I can pay for the whole year now if that will help.
  22. Don't know if this was already addressed or not, but I am having problems with it not showing when topics are read. When I read them at first it clears, but when I come back later they are all back again. Am I doing something wrong? Cleared my cookies and no difference.
  23. Even the umps don't agree with what happened. A good article on ESPN about it http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2005/columns/story?columnist=caple_jim&id=2189660 (may be insider)
  24. He pulls his arm in and clinches his fist, which is what I always thought was the signal for out. I don't think you can see his lips to be able to tell if he yelled "you're out" unfortunately. I know for a fact that HS umps pump their fist for the 3rd strike but do not yell you're out until the play has been made. It's a habit when a strike is called. But this ump does not, as every other at bat showed. The fist pump means out. If it meant strike three, but your not out then why on dropped balls did he not pump his fist until the play was finished. But did he delay like that? Something was up with the delay. Regardless of the delay he made the signal. Why make it if the play is not done? To say it was a strike. But that is what he does for outs. There have been plenty of examples showing this. If it was simply a strike and the ball hit the ground, he would have yelled and not made the fist pump. Nothing he did suggests that it was anything other than an out, based on the whole game, and the umps mechanics
  25. This was printed earlier in this thread. In addition, BBTN did a video recap of every incident like the one in the bottom of the 9th. He clearly did the same movement for every swinging strike that was not dropped. In regards to rules, there is nothing I can find that says that an umpire has to say a ruling. In regards to the delayed call, here's what MLB tells the umpires under rule 9.05: Then my question is what does he do to tell the difference between strike 3 and you're out? He put his hand out to say it was not a foul ball but what would he do to say it's a strike but not an out? By the way, this will be a great lesson for my kids! Do you coach a youth team? High School. That's cool. Bet there will be a lot more batters getting tagged after strike 3's from now on.
