  1. Well that sucks..The guy says he wnats to stay here his whole like and die as a Cub..and then wont take a hometown discount..How much freakin money do you need Carlos.Geez If he walks, it's on Hendry. How? It was reported that they had basically agreed to a deal until the sale prevented Hendry from getting the contract signed. I'm not going to believe anything I hear from Rosenthal considering that what he is reporting was probably heard second hand from a report that was an agent's bravado to begin with.
  2. If the vote tally changes at some point, does McSkullet have to change his name again?
  3. Let's not pretend Petrick is the savior of the Cubs. Up until two days ago, the highest level he had ever pitched at was AA. He has shown flashes of great pitching, but also rough spots (2 run homer in his first appearance). He has only pitched 3.2 innings in the big leagues. He is not a savior, he isn't being punished for his performance, he is a just a guy who came up and did his part, and is going back down to the minors for some more seasoning. Did anybody here really expect a guy whose record includes nothing higher than a bit of AA experience to stick around for the rest of the season? When Petrick is a little more experienced and ready for a full time spot, he'll be back. Until then, I won't shed any tears for him.
  4. It would be remarkably stupid to trade a solid reliever who will be under our control for years for a solid reliever who will be a free agent next year.
  5. There you go with your condescending attitude again. I think Meph has decided to be bizarro Meph for a while, taking all of the exact opposite opinions (same attitude, though). He's argued the opposite before, making much better points than the number of RBI's Soriano has in 72 games. He also recently argued that CERA was important because 4 of the last 6 WS teams had good defensive catchers. That should be an obvious sign that he is kidding. As most here know, and I mentioned before, studies on this show that the order batters hit in doesn't matter much as long as the best hitters are in the lineup, and batting orders with hitters ranked in decreasing order of OPS tend to be slightly more productive than the traditional lineup anyway.
  6. Not necessarily. Maybe Wuertz and Petrick won't be available tomorrow unless it's really bad, but Marmol and Howry each went just one. Eyre and Ohman weren't used at all. The longer it stays this way, the better, no? Between Ohman and Cherry, I have to go with Ohman. As long as he faces mostly LH batters, he is usually solid.
  7. i changed it, did it work? and yes 5-5 is clutch no matter how you put it still 1-6 isn't a good day even with a game winner No, it's still ginormous. darn on my computer it's down to size, any ideas as to what to do take it off completely would probably be one solution. it's fixed now NO That is some serious delayed reaction time. He fixed it a couple minutes ago. EDIT: Or just a computer problem. I said nothing.
  8. i changed it, did it work? and yes 5-5 is clutch no matter how you put it still 1-6 isn't a good day even with a game winner Do we really need to re-debate clutchiness? Very few hitters consistently bat better or worse from year to year than their season numbers over the course of their careers. They may have a great OPS w/RISP for a year, but it is very common for the same player to be terrible in said situations the next year. Soriano's career numbers with show that, year to year, he has not been consistently better or worse with runners on base than he has been overall. All this said, I don't have a problem batting Soriano leadoff. It is far more important to get your best players in the lineup than it is to find the perfect batting order. As most people here know, studies suggest batting your hitters in order of decreasing OPS is actually slightly better for producing runs than the traditional lineup anyway, so let Soriano bat where he wants.
  9. Do both Hill and Bowen qualify as such? I think Meph is kidding since I recall him arguing against CERA in the past.
  10. Hill and Bowen might not be able to hit at all, but think of all the runs they'll glove in. That's clutch, dude. I think the Dusty impersonation is fitting for the catcher situation this year.
  11. You know what sucks about this series? I got tickets to Sunday's game. Sunday. With Marquis. That is pretty much a guaranteed blowout.
  12. I never heard about it. I think they probably just mixed up their facs on that one.
  13. I hate offdays during winning streaks. When can Dempster be taken off the DL?
  14. Guys, Bruce Miles - perhaps our most respected source on this board - is where we got the info that Zell had nothing to do with the deal being canceled and that it was indeed Hendry pulling out. Then I wonder why Bruce Miles didn't use the headline "Deal off because of Hendry." Or, "Because of Hendry, Jones still a Cub." Odd that it's not. Reporters don't write headlines, editors write healdines, and the editors didn't put Hendry in the headline because he is not the critical part of the article from a news angle. He specifically said in the game thread that Zell did not interefere, and that he felt the main reason the deal did not get done was because of Hendry. You can check it out for yourself if you like.
  15. Brewers win 6-3 on a 3 run walk off homer in the 11th. When are they going to have to play a real team?
  16. So the Cubs have a hard cap as far as budget space to add or subract salary for 2007? Or Hendry might have just thought it wasn't worth paying all of Jacques' salary. Keep in mind, this trade didn't actually increase the Cubs' spending, it decreased it slightly.
  17. Well, still a strong overall start from Zambrano. It is a game, but the Cubs have a strong advantage.
  18. Crap. Well, this is definitely Zambrano's last inning.
  19. Zambrano at 65 pitches through 4 innings. I think he could go 7.
  20. Theriot first pitch swining against a pitcher that just walked three batters in the inning. Genius.
  21. There are conflicting reports. Hendry's own comments ommit any involvement of Zell, and it seems unlikely that the owner of the Trib would personally reject a trade over a matter of a few million dollars.
  22. Yea. Too bad he'll only last 6 at most. He could go more. Just depends on whether or not he keeps his walks down.
  23. There was a quote in which he mentioned specifically that he had been talking to other teams while working out the Marlins trade "scenario" and that he had another one he was working on, though what he meant by scenario wasn't 100% clear. I think it was posted earlier in the thread a few pages back.
  24. Even better, have Jones serve the suspension in a Lee mask. :D But if Lee had to play first base in a Jones mask, would the suckiness magically transfer to him, too?
