  1. For those who weren't aware, Meph got bored with baseball for a while and decided that the best way to amuse himself was to pretend that he was an idiot. Hence, the CERA stuff, along with other, significantly stupider comments.
  2. Whew. Simontacchi gets out of it, still 4-3 Nats.
  3. And the Cubs lose a game in the standings to drop to 5.5 back. On the plus side, the break is coming up soon.
  4. Why on earth would you ever pinch hit with Hill? He is easily the worst hitter on the team.
  5. Fred, I've been meaning to ask you about one stat of yours. You say that the Cubs are 18-15 when they throw the same number of pitches as the opposing team. It seems like a strange coincidence that, in 84 games, about 40% of them would end ith Cub pitchers and opposing pitchers having thrown the same number of pitches. Do you have stats on this from other years?
  6. For every person too lazy to vote before they thought it meant something, there is someone willing to waste their vote to preserve the tie, one way or another.
  7. It isn't really that strange. There are lots of streaks in baseball, many of hich are entirely meaningless. See Neifi's streaks with the Cubs vs. his overall numbers. Fred had a great list on this earlier.
  8. Jones has a history of hitting him well, and has 2 doubles today. He also struggles to hit LHP. EDIT: Forgot Floyd was up next. I don't know if he has traditional splits, but the Nats might have been trying to play the numbers.
  9. He's had some good ABs this series. Not so much today.
  10. Even though they left two runners on base, that was by far the best inning they've had as far as making Bergman throw pitches.
  11. Well, since he'd only need one hit to improve that, I'll say he's got a 50/50 chance of improving by the end of the game.
  12. Jones with the first decent Cub contact of the game.
  13. 2 pop outs and 2 ground outs. Nobody is working the count and nobody is making solid contact.
  14. Odds on the Cubs being shut out in consecutive games?
  15. Quick, somebody vote for Banedon and tie it up!
  16. Well, the vote is now tied again, so I don't know. With any luck, we can keep it tied for weeks.
  17. Right, 9-0 Nats after Hill gives up to grand slams in one inning.
  18. Hill continues to struggle. He can't seem to put anybody away quickly. How many pitches has he thrown? Finally gets the last out. Hill is looking really bad. He can't put anybody away, lots of foul balls, and every ball hit in play is hit hard to the outfield. He may need an early exit today.
  19. He struck out Hart is his first AB against Milwaukee too. That contact didn't look so good.
  20. That picture of Chico is eerily reminiscentof Sean Marshall.
  21. Ugh. Two quick innings against Tim Redding? That is pretty pathetic. He's only thrown 13 pitches the past two innnings.
  22. How deep is CF in RFK? That one looked like it would have been out in most ballparks.
  23. There goes the no hitter. C'mon Zambrano, just get the next batter.
