For those who weren't aware, Meph got bored with baseball for a while and decided that the best way to amuse himself was to pretend that he was an idiot. Hence, the CERA stuff, along with other, significantly stupider comments.
Fred, I've been meaning to ask you about one stat of yours. You say that the Cubs are 18-15 when they throw the same number of pitches as the opposing team. It seems like a strange coincidence that, in 84 games, about 40% of them would end ith Cub pitchers and opposing pitchers having thrown the same number of pitches. Do you have stats on this from other years?
For every person too lazy to vote before they thought it meant something, there is someone willing to waste their vote to preserve the tie, one way or another.
It isn't really that strange. There are lots of streaks in baseball, many of hich are entirely meaningless. See Neifi's streaks with the Cubs vs. his overall numbers. Fred had a great list on this earlier.
Jones has a history of hitting him well, and has 2 doubles today. He also struggles to hit LHP. EDIT: Forgot Floyd was up next. I don't know if he has traditional splits, but the Nats might have been trying to play the numbers.
Hill continues to struggle. He can't seem to put anybody away quickly. How many pitches has he thrown? Finally gets the last out. Hill is looking really bad. He can't put anybody away, lots of foul balls, and every ball hit in play is hit hard to the outfield. He may need an early exit today.
