  1. all because the pitcher batting 8th probably. LMAO, you read my mind!
  2. Serious Padres implosion. Cards score 9 in the 5th with still no outs.
  3. Dusty re: Eckstein: "Now here's a guy you want up in any situation".
  4. LOL yup sure, hey when is Aaron Miles getting the start on the bump?lol Hey, at least it's a temporary reprieve from the pain. My morphine drip's not cutting it.
  5. Just because they have a good history, doesn't mean they are making good moves. Case in point, Kip Wells, Adam Kennedy (and that's all their moves to speak of in the off season), Mike Maroth. Not selling now is a disaster IMO (and I'm talking Izzy and Juan high, not Reyes low). Most Cards fans are very realistic about their chances and they don't want the rebuilding to take any longer than necessary. You have to give some leeway about the state of our team to Cards fans for being confused after last year though.
  6. Woot! Way to go, TT! Count me as another Card fan TT supporter. Good luck with that!
  7. Wow, what is up with Bonderman and 1st innings? He needs a baseball shrink. 4-0 Angels.
  8. Looking up and down the Cardinals roster and their minor league system, I would steer clear of this guy. Sure, he lucked into a World Series Championship this year, but he most certainly didn't build a dynasty. He's better than Hendry, but that ain't sayin' much. Pretty close to a dynasty unless WS rings is your only criteria. I wouldn't say anywhere close to a dynasty. Rings are the most important category if you're talking dynasty. 1 doesn't cut it. The only exception is what Atlanta did with their incredible run and 1 ring. By this definition, who would qualify as a good GM, only Schuerholz? I don't think CFICT's arguing WJ created a dynasty, just that his tenure has also been better than "most definitely didn't create a dynasty" as Big Bad B states.
  9. I can understand how WJ's star has dulled this year, but I don't think it's fair to judge him in arguably his worst year as a GM. Could he have been a little blindsided by the market changing and free agency depth taking a dive, possibly. I think he fell victim to the WS glow as a lot of GMs tend to do following WS wins (with the exception of Williams). His record as a GM has already been pointed out, but he also has always been predisposed to a stars and scrubs lineup. He just didn't factor in the degree of decline with Rolen and Edmonds and picked the wrong scrubs this year. There's been a lot of fun poked at the Suppan's, William's, and Marquis' on the Cards, but those rotations (primarily 04 and 05) sported low ERAs and the Cards have been near the top for least no. of starters used annually. Regardless of the minutiae, his track record speaks for itself.
  10. Here's the simple breakdown of three of our starters craptacular performances so far: Reyes: 0-7, 6.08 ERA, .259 BAA, 1.35 WHIP, 2.2 K/BB Wainwright: 4-3, 6.02 ERA, .346 BAA, 1.91 WHIP, 2.26 K/BB Wells: 2-8, 6.10 ERA, .251 BAA, 1.44 WHIP, 1.5 K/BB It clearly shows that at least Reyes has potential to improve and that he's had squat for run support.
  11. There's no link yet, it was just announced on the radio. This is obviously a dumb move as illustrated since the candidate deemed next in line is Wellemeyer.
  12. Two things here, Hancock was shown by the autopsy to not have any active THC in his blood, so that assumption's wrong. The only statement made about offering the cab and the story about heading to the Westin was made by Pat Shannon, the manager of the bar. I'm sure they'll dig into that claim. Missouri has one of the most lax laws about suing bars in cases like this. You can sue bars, but there is no teeth to what defines the "visibly intoxicated" standard.
  13. Yea, Ryan Dempster completely sucking in the 9th had nothing to do with it. Or Jacque Jones being beyond useless in the 8th. Soriano's failed run STILL was the losing run. So where many other bases loaded and men on third opportunities. But point is, He scores that, we win. Just pointing out that, when you don't take the runs you are given. THIS can happen. He also gunned down the go ahead run at home.
  14. This is a ridiculously long game. No offense guys, but it's not exactly the clash of the titans in extras. Believe me, I know all about ballplayers wielding toothpicks.
  15. I completely agree. LaRussa is being hypocritical in his statements in the article Chris posted the link to. LaRussa is talking about the media "trying to further their own agendas" when he is doing exactly that. He realizes that if he condemns drinking and driving, he's screwing himself and that's the last thing he wants to do. So now he's trying to downplay a serious problem because he doesn't want to shed any more negative light on himself. Soccer, I think you're reading too much into this. I think he's just trying to protect a deceased teammate and a grieving team. If you want to look for more sinister motives, perhaps he thinks when all this dirt is revealed, it will take his team even longer to recoup on the field.
  16. I don't think taking a firm stance against DWI is mandating morality. Morality is vague and open to interpretation depending on one's beliefs. DWI is breaking a hard and fast law that can have severe consequences, both legal and otherwise. So while an organization can't (and shouldn't) dictate whether or not you drink, go to strip clubs, etc., it can (and maybe should) have a firm policy against alcohol related crimes. Agreed. Many companies do a credit check prior to hiring, so I'd think a driving record/DUI check is acceptable especially if they/you rely on a vehicle to get to work or at work.
  17. I know if I show up late, hungover, and unable to perform they will intrude in my personal life by removing me from their payroll. Even if it was for the first time? That seems a little extreme. In my job, if I show up under the influence of alcohol or drugs, I'm terminated. If I get a DWI, I'm terminated. I can drink all I want on my own time. I can go to all the gentleman's clubs or carouse about on my free time at will. But if I get a DWI or ever happen to be believed to be under the influence at work, they can order me to be tested. If I refuse, I'm terminated. If I consent and I test to be under the influence, i'm terminated. So, while I have a right to do what I want on my own time, there are strict parameters that surround that. Do you believe your employer is doing the right thing? Since it's a school, yeah, I'd think so. Same with a pilot or anyone involved with public transport. But under the influence and hungover are two different things, you wouldn't get terminated if you were talking with co-workers about being hungover, would you, Vance?
  18. Snood, there's no shoulder in that stretch of highway. The tow truck was in the left lane of the highway. I'm sure it's something that will be addressed with the upcoming shutdown of 64/40. It basically happened just east of the Grand exit off 64.
  19. Thanks to all Cubs fans who think it is a big deal when a 29 yr. old member of our team dies, regardless of whether he was the starting pitcher tonight. 99% of the fans here were very sympathetic and gracious when told of the news. It's why other teams' fans come back here, whether you want us here or not. We appreciate the hospitality, NSBB.
  20. It's pretty simple, the Cubs fans are reluctant to embrace Marquis and the Cards fans are reluctant to embrace Looper. Both sides are waiting for the other shoe to drop.
  21. Who's going to be the first fan base to embrace their unlikely hero starting pitcher?
  22. Seems like there are two schools of thought regarding baseball teams' prognosis, some who are too bullish on youngsters and some who are too bullish on proven vets (mediocre or not). The Pirates didn't waste foolish money on the Randas and Burnitz's of the world and they made a savvy trade. It all depends upon how the youngsters fare. Either way, they're finally taking a step in the right direction for a small market team. If that's not exciting, I don't know what is.
  23. So this is your foreplay?
  24. Has anyone read Neyer's Book of Baseball Blunders? There's a whole chapter devoted to the Cubs hiring Dusty Baker. It focused on giving an imprudent amount of ABs to the likes of Perez, Macias, and Harris, as well as other flawed Dusty philosophies. I would never usually think a manager would make that much of a difference, but in this extreme case, I don't think five wins is out of the question just by changing managers.
