  1. Did McCarver just say Soriano weighs 155-160 lbs?
  2. I do a lot of work with his company. This proposed acquisition has been speculated at my office since the Trib announced the Cubs would be sold. He is wealth beyond wealth. Obviously they're not going to go Yankee and bid highest for talent, but they won't be cheap and work by the fringe. I don't think it's such a bad thing that, should Canning get the Cubs, we find ourselves with an owner who is already highly regarded in the owners' fraternity, so to speak. But don't worry. This guy's not buying the Cubs and quitting his day job, so don't think that he's going to start slashing quality to stretch the fans' dollars.
  3. Come on and score some runs. Daddy's got $100 on that 30.5 over/under.
  4. Can't help but think of the Van Halen video for Right Now where some guy is on a street corner holding a sign that reads "Will wrestle you for food" ... someone's got the wrong idea.
  5. But what if they can have our crap-tastic outfielder show up at Shea Stadium ... IN A BRAND NEW CAR! Running out of ideas, why not just start packaging him with various products, like a game show? Like in the Price is Right, when they have the token crappy prize in the Showcase Showdown. except this is more like Let's Make A Deal where Monty Hall is peddling off useless crap yeah, let's put jacque, eyre and izturis behind doors number one, two and three I thought one of the doors is supposed to have something good behind it. We'll have Jacque holding an economy-sized bag of big league chew, Eyre listening to a new iPod and Cesar holding a sign saying "Could be worse" with Neifi's headshot on it ...

  7. http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/6990732 Holy freaking crap. Please God, let this be true. Gasol for Noc,Noah & Du?? Mad Pax already shot that rumor down in the Daily Herald, I think. Best case scenario is probably signing one of either Mihm, Joe Smith or Darko. Probability of a trade is unlikely because Pax doesn't want to break up the core. I'm assuming most teams worry about KG opting out if he gets traded and will consequently not offer too much value to the T-Wolves.
  8. better than GIDP. or murdering babies like ugly babies? who would have to go in a trade for Salty?
  9. ... Dammit Youman, take a Dorn for the team (Cubs, that is) and lean into that pitch.
  10. Was Recker a secound rd pick? I know Evans was a FA signing.
  11. Can you say Ed Nealy, Jr.?
  12. Couldn't disagree more...he is much more likely to bust than to ever be a star. Take away the crazy hair, the great supporting cast he had (he was actually part of the supporting cast to Horford/Brewer), the famous parents and the bombastic personality and you're left with an above-average, undersized non-scoring tweener. Most overrated player in the draft. Certainly he has bust potential, but you are looking past his ceiling. But what ceiling Raisin? In no world do I see him ever averaging 15 points a game, and hes going to get bullied around down low which will mitigate his rebounding effort. At best I see a 10 and 8 guy Honestly, with our team I'm fine with a 10-8 guy. I could also see a 1 bl, .5 st, and 2.5 a line as an extension. Id be fine with it too, if it wasnt acquired from the 9th pick in the draft. Well, we were an Eddy Curry last second tip-in from being in the top 6. Frankly, I'm better wasting the 9th pick on Noah than wasting the 6th pick on him. I think this was Pax's guy all along.

  14. I'd say that Yi and Noah both have the biggest "bust" potential with Hawes and B. Wright not too far behind. But for the Bulls, Noah can run up and down the floor and help facilitate a fast-break. He's very smart with creating passing lanes but is limited offensively. He doesn't need to score more than 8 pts a game if he can at least score a couple drop shots 10-12 ft out to pose a threat and open space for Deng, Gordon and Hinrich or even draw a defender away from Wallace and feed him down low. He's a smart player, but nowhere near a star. He's also quick and long enough to be a good weakside defender. I would have preferred a trade for a serviceable post option, but I'm fine with the pick. Curious to see if they try to bring PJ back now.
  15. Uh, is there any point to this thread anymore? I look forward to the next Jacque trade rumor in hopes that this thread gets canned.
  16. I can't take this ... I'M IN A GLASS CASE OF EMOTION!!!! http://www.kcactive.com/aande/images/reelimages/anchorman.jpg
  17. can we confirm? radio source? anything? i can't take this elation at risk of it not being true
  18. grumble grumble. That means absolutely nothing. There's nothing saying he can't be traded after he's at the ballpark. Wouldn't he have to go there anyway to clean out his locker? I specifically recall the Jose Hernandez trade where he showed up to hear the Cubs had traded him to the Pirates, and the cameras showed his Cubs cleats sitting on the top of the trash can ... (right underneath his talent) Oohhh burn.
  19. You mean I broke the story on here? Do I get a prize or something??? Bruce will send you a button of himself giving a thumbs-up with "Way to Scoop!" on the bottom.* *offer void if Bruce doesn't feel like it, which means he probably doesn't like you.
  20. full no trade clause too I'm on board for bringing on a Hoosier!
  21. Whoa whoa whoa ... 2-run HR? So he hit with runners on base? He'll never make it to the ML level with the Cubs.
  22. Congrats to Ryan Theriot. The scouts have finally taken notice. He has to adjust. If he can't, then, yes, he should be just a utility player or work on his game at AAA.
