I'm not the one claiming he's a genius with the glove though. Obviously he's not the super human defender so many wanted to make him out to be. He's not going to win games for the Cubs with his glove. And he's not going to contribute to many wins with his bat either. It's one play.

Doesn't sound that terrible of a day? I guess you had to see it... for izturis, who is supposed to be the second coming defensively, i'd consider a day with two misplays to be a bad day. but back to hill's greatness...don't want to divert the thread too much. :D A hard hit ground ball that takes a tough hop on him is hardly a misplay. He played the ball of the chest, just as he is supposed to and made a very strong throw to first without even really setting his feet to get a good runner in Bay. I know a great majority of fans here don't like Izturis and the trade but it doesn't mean you should now try to find reasons to criticize him unfairly. That was a play, that if committed by Ronny Cedeno would have been called sloppy, lazy and ill prepared. It was a routine ground ball to short. This is funny! Was the played made? Yes! I've never seen so many comments on a bobbled play that was made for a out.
  3. PLEASE BE TRUE!!! PLEASSSEEE!

Doesn't sound that terrible of a day? I guess you had to see it... It wasn't that terrible of a day. That foul ball was one of those tough plays near the mound and stands-it was a play Izturis should have made only because he is so good defensively-but as Len and Bob mentioned, he is still learning how unique the foul territory is in Wrigely, so that's not that big of a deal. The bobble was more concerning to me, but he did recover to make the out, so it wasn't that big of a deal either. At most, you can call it a terrible day for Izturis-he won't make even those defensive lapses all that often. BTW, a bright spot of the day also was that Cedeno finally looked comfortable playing 2nd base-he really looked better out there. I read this morning (I forgot where) that Cedeno is starting to feel comfortable and perfer 2nd base.

kinda off topic, but izturis looked terrible defensively yesterday. Did he? I didn't see much of the game yesterday and didn't hear that. I forgot to DVR the game. How'd he look terrible. I see the Cubs didn't make any errors yesterday. Explain....Thanks.
  7. Z will no doubt get a contract after this year. I'm thinking 4 years with a option for a 5th year. 4\50
  8. I'd love him to add another pitch.
  9. I missed the whole game and I'm checking out the Box Scores. Looks like Hill was impressive to say the least, and Pagan just keeps on hitting. I don't mind the Murton\Pagan splitting time right now. Both have been very impressive lately.
  10. I love what I'm seeing so far, but I'm still not sold yet. The past two teams have really helped him out by swinging at balls out of the zone. I'm eating crow the past two games and the crow is tasting pretty darn good! Keep it up Hill!
  11. Got the call right. Just got back from a puppy training session. How's Hill looking? 4 K no BB. I like that!
  12. I guess I should clarify what I meant. I should have said "Does anyone else think ARam coming back could depend on Dusty Baker not coming back?" I think that ARam is more likely to leave if Dusty returns to the team. EDIT: I don't buy ARam's nice comments about Dusty to the media and think he was just saying them so he doesn't stir up any controversy in the clubhouse. If this is true then ARAM will never be happy. If he doesn't like Baker (what player doesn't), then he's not going to like any manager. Baker is a players manager. I just don't buy all that crap. It's all media hoopla hype. Trust me if the Cubs pay him what he wants he'll stay no matter who the manager is. Players love money....

  14. For my own sanity, I refuse to consider scenarios for 07 that include Dusty. LOL! No doubt! I just feel it coming. If Dusty wants to come back he's a Cub next year.
  15. Who would leadoff if Jones moves to CF? Murton Hmmm...Interesting. Food for thought. Let's see how the rest of the season goes for Murton. Or if you picked up Soriano for 2B, he could lead off. Soriano 2B Murton LF Lee 1B Barrett C Ramirez 3B Jones RF Pierre CF Izturis SS P I'd rather lose Pierre, but if he's coming back, this lineup would be the best I can forsee. I was thinking that also but if Dusty is the manager no way does he bats Pierre in the 7 spot.
  16. Hendry is going to re-sign Pierre. When he was on Murphy's show it seemed like he really wanted to.
  17. I hope Dusty plays Murton in LF today, and everyday!
  18. Who would leadoff if Jones moves to CF? Murton Hmmm...Interesting. Food for thought. Let's see how the rest of the season goes for Murton.
  19. I can see CLEE in LF or Soriano at 2nd. They can trade either Murton or Cedeno then. They have to do something to create more offense. I can't believe Hendry will stand pat.
  20. How does he know the Cubs appear satisfied with the Status Quo?
  21. I don't think people are FULLY blaming Baker, but rather saying that his abuse is ONE contributing factor to his subsequent injury problems. And that I don't think you could dispute. It's "one" of the contributing factors? Yep! There are many contributing factors for Kerry Wood's injuries. Where do you even start?
  22. There were many instances where Baker left them in games when the Cubs had a comfortable lead, to throw well in excess of 100+ pitches. I agree there are times when you ride your aces, especially in tight games and coming down the stretch in a pennant race. But when you are up by more than 3 runs heading into the 7th inning, you don't leave your ace in there and wear them out for their next starts. Don't forget our pen gave up a ton of leads in 2003 also. Look guys we could go round and round with this but to fully blame Baker of all of Wood's problems I just don't agree on. No need to argue futher...
  23. No. You are sure of that? See my point is all of this is arbitrary! You can't assume for a fact that Baker was the reason for these guys breaking down? Sure I agree 140 pitches in a inning is just way too much, but Wood mechanics being flawed from that start can't be ignored. I don't think it is arbitrary at all. I think it shows a direct correlation between how they were overused in 2003 and the problems suffered since. In 2003 Prior and Wood combined for 32 wins, since then they have 30. What other LOGICAL explanation is there? Haven't most of Prior injuries been fluke injuries? Even when he has been healthy, he has not been the same pitcher that he was in 2003. I believe this may be partially due to his "freak" injuries, but it hasn't helped that Dusty continued to abuse him through those same injuries. He looked good for the 2nd half of last year until he got hit with a line drive in the elbow.
