  1. Do people forget the contract that A.J. Burnett got from Toronto after the 2005 season? Sure, he was coming off a season in which he threw over 200 innings, but he has as much of an injury history as prior, if not moreso. And if I'm not mistaken, Burnett's injuries weren't the fluke "collided with a baserunner" or "got hit by a line drive off the pitching elbow" type of injuries. If Prior was a free agent, I don't doubt that he would have been offered a nice multi-year deal, contingent on passing a physical. If he doesn't pass, they withdraw the offer. But his injury history isn't going to limit the initial offers to one-year deals. The key being he was coming off a season where he was healthy. That's not a fair comparasion. If Prior is healthy this year and pitches decent, sure, he'll get the big deal that AJ got.
  2. If Mark Prior is healthy, we run away with the division next year.
  3. I wonder what "on schedule" is? Do the Cubs have a target date for his return? If they did, do you think they would tell us?
  4. Yeah I posted this earlier. I can't wait what he has to say at the Cubs Convention this weekend.
  5. You're comparing different arbitration years. Lilly made 3.1 million as part of a 2 year, 5M deal in his 2nd arbitration year, which is what Prior is in right now. Yes, I know. I thought he was saying if Lilly this year theoretically-speaking was still in arbitration he wouldn't make more then Prior. This is pointless and stupid.
  6. Huh? Lilly made 4 million and Prior made 3.6 last year. How do you figure Prior makes more. He barely even pitched last year? Because Prior is Prior and Lilly is Lilly. Prior hasn't been Prior in quite sometime. For one season. And even so, he's at least been Prior at some point relatively recently in his very young career. Lilly has always been Lilly. Prior is asking for 3.875 for next year, and Lilly made 4 million last year. So do you honestly think they would've cut Lilly's pay if he was up for arbitration this year? How do you figure Prior would make more?

  9. Actually the reports on Wood, Miller and Prior are positive! Man, I hope and pray Prior is healthy! http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070117&content_id=1780798&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  10. That's just sad. Don't forget Ted Lilly. Pays to stay healthy I guess... Or have been a free agent. Health is more important. You think Lilly would have gotten a bigger deal than Prior if Prior were a FA this year? Even with his injury history, I think Prior would have made more. No way! Do you honestly think so? I don't think he would even pass a physical. I don't think he would have gotten more than Lilly, but I have little to no doubt he'd make more than the Cubs are paying him right now or might be paying him after this little bump. Sure, I can see a 1 year deal with a option, but I can't see a team signing him for 4-5 years at 10 million per.
  11. I didn't think ARam loved the Cubs enough to throw 20-30 mil in the trash either. Give him 6/96. Give him it right now. I could see him accepting 6/100-110 (18 mil/year). I think anything under 100 mil is too low, even for Z who I believe loves the Cubs. Offering 6/96 would be worth a try though. :) http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-070116cubsohman,1,4799304.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines Sounds like you're right, Z will be looking to break the $100mil barrier. I hope the Cubs are ready for this, because if you lose Zambrano because you overpaid for Lilly and Marquis? I think that's the point where fans start offing themselves and naming the Cubs in their suicide notes :x They get Z signed. I have no doubts.

  15. That's just sad. Even if he doesn't pitch an inning in 2007? C'mon he'll probably pitch an inning. Maybe he'll even squeak out a game or two.[/quote] With a ball or a towel? The big question is will it be simulated or actual games??

  17. I have no worries about this at all. They'll get it done. They've shown they will sign their own players.
  18. That was me and I tried!
  19. What do you do with a player who never tested positive for steroids, yet we all know cheated? Example: Sammy Sosa Because baseball never really tested for steroids for a long period of time, to be fair, you should only exclude players who legally tested positive. Otherwise, it is just hearsay. McGuire should get in....Sammy should get in. Bonds should not. Ken Did Bonds ever legally tested positive?
  20. Depaul Vs. Pitt tonight on ESPN 2. I'm smelling a upset here...
  21. I'm really glad the Cubs don't cave and do that. It's right up there with Wrigley not having a video screen for me. Every time I go to a game where they're blasting "theme music," it suddenly feels less like baseball and more like wrestling. Pass. I was at a Padres game last year and every single player that comes to bat has his own theme song. It was so damn annoying!
  22. I'm going. I went last year. It was fun, but kinda crazy. I thought I was a pretty darn big Cubs fan...there are some absolute nuts out there...no offense guys  I'm going. It's my 4th straight year. It's bascially Cubs fans verision of the Star Trek Convention. My Wife and I always get a kick outta it. It's fun to see and hear players insight into the game.
  23. i just read that on yahoo, some of you thought we had it bad with Lillys contract The number of years is bad on the Zito contract, the pay is not. With Lilly the number of years isn't so bad but the pay is. Zito will probably perform better given the dimensions of Pac Bell. I really worry about Lilly in the NL Central ballparks. So you think that Zito is worth 18 million a year?
  24. Time will tell whether he knows what he's doing. Agreed. They were in a position to be very good with an addition to the roster here and there. They still can be, but if they don't make the necessary moves to be competitive this year, Williams is going to look pretty bad with these moves. Detroit has improved their team this offseason. Proof is the WS ring. There are no lucky WS championships. You win it, you've proven yourself. Cub fans may not like that because it's the WS, but believe me if the Cubs won one and people called it luck, we'd be crying foul. So let's be intellectually honest with ourselves, and admit Williams got it done, so he gets the credit. What happens if the team that won the world series improves significantly in the offseason and then doesn't even make the playoffs the next year? Would you then call it luck? I never call winning the World Series luck, no matter what. And my argument is, neither should you----or you risk being intellectually dishonest. Because you know damn well if someone else called the Cubs lucky for winning it, you'd be upset. Any arguments to the contrary are just fans being fans. Why because you say so? That's a poor arguement...
