I'm sorry about the Zimmer comparison isn't at all suitable. The Cubs were a moribund franchise in the early 80's. They would struggle to draw 1.5 million. Zimmer didn't sell tickets, a winning team sold tickets. The excitement surrounding the 84 team sold tickets that season, and when it looked like they could get back to that level again they sold more. The Cubs sold 3.0 million last year with a losing team. The stakes have been raised. People are going to buy tickets because they are excited about the opportunity to see Epstein build a winner. Sandberg would only bring in incremental increases at best, and probably zero. This isn't a team that is struggling for attention. They need to put the best team on the field if they want to take the next step. Yeah, selling t-Shirts isn't exactly a real revenue stream.
