  1. Good call. I've been meaning to look that up!
  2. 19 year Venezuelan old Felix Hernandez is getting the start today for Seattle in Detroit. The right handed phenom is the youngest starting pitcher in MLB since 1991. The game's being played the same time as the Cubs today and will be aired exclusively on MLB.TV.
  3. From Tribune - Jerry Hairston injured his left elbow while trying to make a sliding catch of Mike Lieberthal's double in the sixth, and will fly to Chicago on Thursday for an MRI before meeting up with the team in New York. X-rays showed no break. "I just hope it's hyperextended and I'll be back in a couple days," Hairston said. If Hairston has to go on the disabled list, the Cubs would be expected to call up Corey Patterson from Triple-A Iowa.
  4. Manager Dusty Baker said Garciaparra is likely to play Friday and Sunday against the Mets, with Neifi Perez starting Saturday and serving as a late-inning defensive replacement the other games. - Tribune
  5. He's hitting .342 with RISP, so I don't see your point there. Seriously, he made a bad mistake, but you're overreacting. Overreacting? I've been saying this for almost two years. Yeah, he has a .342 avg. with RISP. I'd like a break down on that, because he's 1 for his last 4, I believe (the one being the hit against AZ). Were his hits when the game was on the line or to bring the game closer? All I know is from here on out, watch his at-bats with RISP. And see how many times he gets himself down in the count when it's the pitcher who should have the pressure on him. I'm not one who goes off on guys unnecessarily after a loss, we all know it's too many on here for that, but I've been consistent in my dislike for Barrett and his $3 million/year contract. I'm also one to go to the numbers when an argument is on the line. I was not expecting to find this, but I feel it'd be unfair to only post numbers that support my side, so... Barrett's numbers Close and late - 57AB, OBP .279; OPS .683 Close And Late - results in the 7th inning or later with the batting team either ahead by one run, tied or with the potential tying run at least on deck.
  6. No matter how the rule reads, Barrett was foolish to even throw it to 3rd. And then the throw was bad. And he threw it to 3rd too early...plus, he didn't catch strike 4. There's no way that should have been droppped. It was a fastball. Not a slider. The drop actually drew Rollins off the bag... it would have been a great fake play, kinda like the fumblerooskie... if only, it had worked!
  7. Nats win 3-1 Mets lose 6-4 Marlins down 2 bottom 8th in STL Stros no score top 2nd We have a chance to fail to lose too much ground - wow, that sounds pathetic!
  8. Barret is in the top 3 for offensive catchers in the NL and top 8 in the ML. Was this a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE PLAY - yes. Should Barrett now be benched for Blanco - no.
  9. That was worse than Hawkins throwing the ball into the stands earlier in the year.
  10. The properties in steroids that allow athletes to quickly build muscle tissue to enhance performance also work to repair damaged muscle tissue after an injury. I had to take steroids for an eye injury a few years ago, and the doctor gave my wife a shot when she went into labor early to give our daughter's organs a last-minute growth spurt. And I've had several friends who've taken them for various leg and arm problems. So it's entirely possible that an athlete who tested positive could have a perfectly legitimate medical reason if they were rehabbing from some sort of injury. But if that were the case, I think a guy would be up front about it rather than say "Gol, I don't know how them things got in there!" FWIW. Corticosteroids (which are in eye drops and used orally for antiinflammatory properties) and anabolic steroids are very different chemicals. There are very few medical uses of anabolic steroids.
  11. Just missed it. Caught on the run a step from the wall. :x
  12. Luis, pretend he's Maddux and hit it out... ...darn...
  13. Why couldn't he have been an Illinois native who had really wanted to finish his career a Cub?
  14. Should we start an '' Other games '' thread?
  15. How many games can you listen to at once? Thanks. :D
  16. Dempster, fake an injury and let someone else warm up!
  17. It's tough to write this, but... go Cards!
  18. Bottom of the order (inc. PH) up in the 8th. Zambrano at 92 pitches. It's hot. Any chance Dusty pulls Zambrano? I'm calling for a reliever. I'll take Novoa if you make me.
  19. Let's add 3 runs to Padilla's night after he leaves... FWIW: Aramis has hit into a DP in 10.7% of his chances coming into the night - better than average.
