  1. Sports Illustrated piece on Rodon in the last few days: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/more/news/20140404/carlos-rodon-nc-state-mlb-draft/#ixzz2yBgxwkkj
  2. I thought 19, 20 year old KWood before his first surgery used to hit 100 when he dialed it up. I think he was more in the 97mph and lower range during his 02-04 seasons.. I saved an AP (Denver Post) newspaper clipping for years with notes on his 20-K game... I remember it said that he was not clocked at under 95 mph with a fastball all game and hit 100 mph five times. I have no idea how accurate that was (or how accurate the gun it was referencing was) but just passing that along. Whatever the case, it sure felt like he was hitting at least close to 100 a few times in that game. Edit: Just found the Sun-Times article on the game and here's an excerpt from it: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/12615540-419/archives-kerry-wood-20-strikeout-game.html
  3. Same way for Andre Dawson.
  4. Me. Who are you? That would be Payton.
  5. He's either got a good chance of staying, or Epstein is doing a very good job bluffing it in order to keep his trade value reasonable. Either way, I like it. That's exactly what it is. I'd be absolutely stunned if Zambrano played another game in a Cubs uniform. I would not be so sure, and I don't know why anybody would be stunned. He's under contract to pitch for the Cubs. He's capable of pitching well. The Cubs are in desperate need of starting pitching. There's a fairly simple scenario for seeing him pitch for the Cubs. He didn't molest a Ricketts kid or anything. After Ricketts said in front of the world on Sunday Night Baseball that he has a hard time imagining Zambrano ever pitching again for the Cubs, I just can't see it happening. I'd be totally fine with it, since I expect a very small return in a trade and we'd be on the hook for much of the salary, but I don't see Ricketts allowing it. And I know everybody will say, "Well he's not getting in the way of baseball decisions", blah blah blah. For this, I think he will, and already has.

  7. No. I don't see any scenario where Z pitches for us again.
  8. Yes. Press conference at 11 CT.
  9. It's unbelievable how big of a douche this guy is. "@sportalkmatt: 1908. Enough said. Enjoy the victory lap Cubs media You still have Zambrano/Soriano. Theo is awesome and will be missed but STL is in the WS" I just retweeted that from 2 accounts with #butthurt in front of it.
  10. Kap argues with a Boston radio guy(as I have with this guy for the last couple of weeks): http://wgamthegame.com/2011/10/20/the-home-team-interview-with-dave-kaplan-of-wgn-in-chicago/
  11. Who are these "stooges" you speak of? I will show you the stooges.
  12. I've been saying that all day on Twitter.
  13. Twitter? Radio? Twitter. Everybody knows this is getting done. It's just a matter of when.
  14. He has been for years. Like his opinions or not, he at least gets the info from people that know what's going on behind the scenes with the Cubs. Like I said earlier, he was all over the Harden trade WEEKS before it happened when nobody else was. I've always been curious as to who his sources are, but all I know is they have a pretty good idea what's going on with the Cubs. the harden trade was over 3 years ago. what else has he been right about? He's been all over most everything in regards to the Ricketts and the family's plan over the last couple of years.

  16. Pretty sure he broke the Harden trade too. Indeed. He was all over the Harden trade weeks before it happened. His sources are usually spot-on when it comes to the Cubs.
  17. I don't think they're going to have any years of Soriano.
  18. I've "known"(blogging friend) Maury for a while... he's credible. Great baseball business site and he writes for Forbes too.
  19. Exactly. In this case, they're just titles. You can't bring Hoyer over and make him assistant GM. It would just look bad. And this sells the promotion on Theo's part much better, too. Yep.
  20. Right. Maybe Hoyer would handle the little moves here and there and do the extra "GM" things that are asked of that position. But the bottom line(and all that really matters), is that Theo will be heavily involved in any meaningful moves made.
  21. I just think this has more to do with gymnastics for titles for everyone involved than it does for actual duties. I doubt they're paying Theo all that money to not make all of those types of calls. And there's no way they won't be collaborating on all remotely significant decisions. It seems silly to even suggest otherwise. Like others have said, this seems far more like Paxson/Forman than MacPhail/Lynch. My feelings exactly.
  22. Correction: president of baseball operations. Call them what you will, but for all practical purposes, Theo will be GM and Hoyer will be Assistant GM. I don't think that's true. Why? Theo's essentially the "GM", he just now has no middle man to worry about like he did in Boston with Lucchino. He's in charge.
