  1. Whoa, Harvey! Well, when he does hit, he can really hit.
  2. There seem to be some alternate spellings of his name out there. I'm assuming it's this guy: Wilfredo Laureano
  3. I'm going to move this to transactions and leave a pointer here.
  4. Will Carroll is continuously updating his trade column at Baseball Prospectus. It's available as non-subscriber content. Here's the 3pm update on Maddux.
  5. Let's play nicely, everyone, please. What's CFP?
  6. Paul Sullivan's take from the comcast roundtable: Maddux will likely stay. Cubs may be asking too much. Maddux not pushing to go, would be fine staying, but also willing to be traded if it's to a contending team. The Dodgers' disappearance may have ruined the best opportunity for trading Maddux.
  7. Apparently Cuban baseball players Yulieski Gourriel (2B-3B) and Eduardo Paret (SS-2B) defected while playing a tournament in Columbia. (Link in Spanish-Language paper) Both played for Cuba in the WBC. The translated article says that Gourriel would like to play for the Yankees.
  8. LaRussa and the Cards still get Dusty fired up.
  9. I think if he is going to do it the score won't matter. he'll pick a spot. And it doesn't have to be today's game.
  10. I'm constantly surprised that they don't seem to anticipate when a reliever might be needed. I was thinking about starting a thread about how Maddux's trade value has plummeted thanks to the mistaken notion that he is anything but a 5-6 inning pitcher. He might be the one who needs to be convinced of that, since he reportedly usually decided when he's pulled.
  11. I'm constantly surprised that they don't seem to anticipate when a reliever might be needed.
  12. 6-3 Cubs!!! What was LaRussa fighting with the umps about? I totally missed that while having to take a phone call.
  13. I think it's pretty stupid to say you can see in their eyes that they want it, and the reason Hill has struggled is becasue he doesn't want it. Nothing but a bunch of predetermined jibberish. I don't have a problem bringing up some player on the Cubs, unless of course there's intent to stir the pot. Yeah, I think it's predetermined jibberish. But my point is there are tons of predetermined jibberish on these boards that aren't policed, so why is it some are and some aren't policed? I responded to his thoughts here, then saw that the thread could easily turn into another Rich Hill debate. I plead guilty to that. I didn't ask him or anyone else to not post their opinions about Rich Hill on this board. I simply asked that they post further discussions in the existing threads already devoted to debating Hill's merits or lack thereof in Discussions and now also in Transactions. This is, after all, the game thread and we do try to keep conversations here related to the game. Some people use this thread to follow the game. Rich Hill is not pitching in this game. If you review yesterday's game thread, you will find plenty of opinions expressed on Rich Hill, since Rich Hill did pitch in yesterday's game. I'm not trying to police anyone's opinion on Rich Hill. I am trying to police this to stay on game-related topics. If you would like to start a thread pertaining to your like or dislike of any player -- past or present Cub or non-Cub -- please feel free to do so in Baseball Discussions.
  14. No, it was hit in the far RF corner and it looked like the RFer was playing way over straight-away (I can't watch consistently, I only saw the replay), so even Aramis had time to chug his way into 3rd. :)
  15. He and Barrett both look like they aren't sure where each pitch is going to end up. He's getting some movement, though. Bah, 3-0 Cards but Luna thrown out trying to go for 2nd on a hit to LF.
  16. As posted, there's no need to discuss Rich Hill further in this game thread. There are other threads in Discussions for that purpose. Thanks.
  17. Eh, they could gut it and rebuild it from the inside out like Yankee Stadium. I'd guess that's the Trib's intended long-term approach, given the money they just put into the bleachers. ETA: plus they can sell us everything they rip out, brick by brick.
  18. Seriously dude, this is unnecessary. It's obnoxious and troll-like. No one was talking about Hill vs. Marmol and Marshall in here. You brought it up. Please knock it off. I don't see the problem here. He was making an observation on the agressiveness and pitching styles of the young guys. And in my opinion he's right. I do think Hill should be starting for the rest of the year so he gets a chance to get comfortable in the majors. As has been brought up a lot, not all guys have that level of confidence to succeed right away. What I'd suggest is moving any further Rich Hill discussions to the Rich Hill thread in Baseball Discussions since he's actually not pitching in this game. (and I'll try to follow my own advice despite my post above). :)
  19. I'm not a long-time Rich Hill fan; I would like to see him figure it out at the MLB level because it would be best for the Cubs if he did so. I think it's silly to imply that Hill doesn't "want it." I'd guess that he wants it pretty badly. He obviously needs to change his approach at the MLB level ... and it should be the priority of Rothschild and others there to help him do so. I went to Marshall's debut game because it was his debut game. He looked pretty nervous facing Pujols the first time on national tv (and ended up walking him, then giving up a bomb to Rolen). Marshall sure wasn't immune to nerves. It's natural to be nervous. I do agree that Hill's body language changes when he gets into a bad situation, and that's something else that hopefully can be overcome with experience.
  20. Excellent! A first-hand Samardzija report!
  21. They're starting the top of the second inning.
