    How do you feel about Hendry now? If his numbers revert back to or close to his 02-03 seasons, I'm fine with the signing. If he contniues to hit like he did in 04-05, not so much. However, He is an outstanding defensive OF. I'll wait & see how it works out. Unlike most people here, I feel he is an upgrade over Patterson & Burnitz. My apologies in advance because I don't wish to spoil your optimism, but...... 1 week old spoiled milk is an upgrade over 1 month old spoiled milk. Either way, it's still rotten.

    Interestingly enough, this didn't bother me one bit. We officially deserve to be laughed at. Is it too late to offer Brian Giles 20m a year?

    I would hope they'd non-tender him, but I would imagine the A's will get something worked out. He's their kind of player.

    What's Travis Lee's deal? If he's signed for another year, that makes Huff even more expendable. Koronka and Novoa/Welly for Huff That would be 7.5m off the books for Tampa, and two desperately needed arms.

    Nady isn't available, is he? I'm assuming he's New York's RFer whether they trade for Manny or not. Nady can rake. I'd like to see what he could do outside of Petco.

    Well, I did admit that I was in a bad mood at the time, but that doesn't excuse the fact I was probably a bit out of line. My apologies to anyone I may have offended. The thing is, we moderators get tired of finding personal attacks in here. We are human and even we can blow up on occasion. If we all just keep it baseball, there wouldn't be a need for moderators. If the insults were so few and far between, it would be much more fun for everyone involved. But, I still won't agree with you on anything. :D

    LOL, I'm not being clear. I value Lidge but I would be disappointed if the Cubs got another bullpen arm (no matter how good) considering the problems on this current team. As it stands, the Cubs realistically need a SP and a RF. Keeping Lidge and subtracting Williams really doesn't better the Cubs for 2006. If anything it leaves them with less to trade for unless they all of a sudden go after a pitcher in the dwindling FA market. Again, I love Lidge but I don't see how he makes sense for the Cubs as they are currently constructed. I believe these are hypothetical sitations where they are comparing the values between Williams and Lidge. I don't think anyone is actually saying we should exchange pitchers.

    and when it does, the mods are sure to chastise me publicly on the board, unlike others. that's the thing about the long time respecteds. they don't like to argue. THE POINT was that nobody thought the Astros were going anywhere in 2004 either. year after year there are teams far less talented than the 2005 Chicago Cubs that come out of nowhere. BUT I GUESS I CAN'T MAKE THAT POINT BECAUSE I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO ARGUE WITH THE LONG TIME RESPECTEDS. my entire point in this thread is that dialogue shouldn't be restricted because the consensus disagrees. what's your guys reaction? more attempts to restrict dialogue. pathetic. Maybe I worded my response to NYCubfan improperly. My response to him was supposed to mean that you have every right to argue and that arguing is okay as long as it doesn't become personal. It was directed at NYCubfan, because I felt he was the one getting personal. Regarding your point about 2004, I missed where you were trying to provide a theory that the Cubs could follow Houston's lead and do what they did the previous year. Right after you posted the 2004 standings, you mentioned Lawton, Nomar and Williamson. 2 of those guys were not on the 2004 team.

    Corey might want to consider switching agents at this point in his career. If he's having no luck finding a taker while he's still under contract, how much interest will he garner when teams find out Boras is his agent when he's on the market?

    Klesko is moving to 1b. Klesko is absolutely horrible in the outfield. If the Padres want to give up an outfielder, the only one I'm interested in is Giles. If the Cubs traded for Klesko, they'd be better off sticking Lee in the outfield.

    When was that? April- 1 start May- 2 starts June- 3 starts July- 6 starts August- 3 starts Sept.- 4 starts (in 9 games before getting hurt) So, yes, he did start him more in September, but still only half the time. But, he also went to the minors to make room for Enrique Wilson, too.

    The Padres are a 3rd place team next year at best with the moves they've made this offseason. My opinion of course, but I follow them pretty closely since I live here. The Giants and Dodgers will fly right on by them.

    By the way, the Padres seemed like they were pretty high on Ben Johnson in the outfield, but Sledge likely bounces him back to the minors.

    How doesn't it make them better? Young is better than Eaton. I don't exactly know the OF and 1B situation out there, but Gonzalez and Sledge is getting more talent in return for Otsuka and a prospect. The Padres are hurting badly in the pitching department. They have Peavy and basically nothing else. They traded Lawrence and Eaton, and now have Woody Williams, Chan Ho Park as sure bets to be in the rotation. Add Chris Young, Dewon Brazelton and Tim Stauffer as questionable arms after that group. They might still have a shot at bringing Pedro Astacio back, but I haven't been paying much attention to what they are doing with that. Klesko is moving to 1b. Gonzalez is blocked there. The Padres outfield consists of Giles, Cameron and Dave Roberts in LF. Yes, ugh regarding Roberts in LF, but he's their only lead off hitter. They traded Mark Loretta, so they don't have a decent #2 hitter anymore, either. Roberts, Greene?, Giles, Cameron, Klesko, Castilla, Barfield?, Olivo Oh, and the bullpen. :shock: They let Otsuka go in that trade, Seanez is gone and so is Tim Hammond. After Linebrink and Hoffman, it gets real thin. Sledge and Gonzalez probably won't play much.

    Because Hendry dropped the ball on Giles. :D Doesn't seem like Hendry is interested in Abreu, either, so it's pretty much a moot point.
