  1. I mentioned this at gateway redbirds. We'll never have this bad a team again in terms of talent. Not that this team is bad, it's not. We'll just have more talent. We may not get the results, we may not have the heart or the camaraderie but we'll have better players.
  2. I read this and immediately broke out in a string of expletives. So frustrated all mother *$(@#)@Q)*$* game. Their back line is big. Their back line is fast. Their back line is strong. Their back line can jump like stinking cheetahs. WE AREN'T GOING TO BEAT THEM ROUTE 1 IN THE AIR. PUT THE BALL ON THE [expletive] GROUND OR BEHIND THEM.
  3. Are you lost? This is a thread about an NBA team. are you lost? Yes, clearly.
  4. We have some decent prospects (3/4 of the LA Galaxy's defense) but we need to start getting them ready early this cycle. Boca and Gooch and Demerit will transition to Gonzalez, Ream, Opara, and Franklin. Jon Bornstein was our best defender today by a wide, wide margin. It'll be Spector--Gooch--Gonzalez--Bornstein as it stands now. A lot can happen obviously, like Opara, Franklin, Ream and maybe that Williams kid for Freiburg, but I feel like Gonzalez is a lock and Gooch will stay in good enough shape to play at 32. Fuckin Clark is done in the kit. I hope we get some personnel moves happening quickly because I'm ready to move on and start thinking about the Gold Cup next year. Klinssmann? Schmid? Kinnear? I'd rather keep Bradley, but I understand if he's ready to move on. I want to see where Mikey goes, Landon, Clint, Jozy, Benny and good god I can't wait to see what Chuck Deezy looks like in a game. Bring on Brazil in Jersey!
  5. Hopefully the World Cup is enough for him to realize that he isn't going to play ahead of Xavi and Iniesta and he should stay put. I'm not an Arsenal fan, but it'd be a shame for a player like Cesc to be warming a bench. He was in Holland for the friendly and said he still wants to regardless of whether or not he'll ever get to play in a World Cup. Although with this injury, it's a real possibility he isn't as good as Edu, Clark, Torres or Feilhaber anymore.

  7. Cesc Fabreagas decided that since he isn't going to spend much time playing, he may as well put in a little effort in his spare time to make me like him. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/Fab_Column/3028863/Cesc-Fabregas-USA-can-reach-World-Cup-semi-finals.html
  8. When your contract is up, you are a free agent. When someone "buys" a player, they're basically paying a club for rights to the player's contract. Each purchase typically leads to a contract renegotiation for the player. Player trades are rare, so buying a player is the common way to acquire a player already under contract. A loan is basically when a team pays a club to let them borrow a player. Sometimes it's just a case of one club paying another an upfront fee and then paying the player's weekly salary while he's there, however compensation for these situations can get creative. For example, Beckham's offseason loan to Milan involved a few million dollars up front, Milan paying his salary while he was there and an agreement to play the Galaxy in two exhibition games during their preseason which the Galaxy get to draw gate, merchandising and broadcast revenue from. Loans are motivated from a lot of areas. Some examples close to home are Beckham, Donovan and Jozy Altidore. Beckham went on loan to Milan the last two years to prove to Fabio Capello he could still hack it in an elite level so he would still get called up to the national team. Everton wanted Landon this winter to cover for injuries and player's leaving for the African continental tournament, Landon wanted to go to see what he could do at an elite level and dispel some ghosts and doubts from previous failures and Jozy was loaned from Villarreal to Hull City because he wanted as much playing time as he could get leading up to the World Cup. The reason Soccer's player movement is much more complicated, common and creative (alliteration, BOOM) is because unlike American sports where there is one top league for each sport which deals with around 30 teams each, there are literally hundreds of leagues with thousands of teams to draw a salary from if you're a player. If a club in Uzbekistan offers you a ton of money, you can go there or use it for negotiating leverage.
  9. A few days behind on this, but interesting: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/altidores-club-hopes-could-ride-algeria-outing I'm not convinced Rossi will be there next year. It's pretty clear he needs to get to Italy if his decision to play as an Italian internationally isn't going to be a failure. 10. http://theoriginalwinger.com/2010-06-25-liverpool-set-to-announce-roy-hodgson-as-manager-within-24-hours Clint would be a natural replacement for Benayoun.
  11. http://leisureblogs.chicagotribune.com/about-last-night/2010/06/chicago-fire-player-marries-playboy-model-after-dating-seven-weeks.html I'm downloading Ian Darke's call from that link to use as a ringtone. Edit - That doesn't have the call in it unfortunately but it is a podcast with a Darke interview about it. I have Andres Cantor's "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOL" call which is also phenomenal. You can get that here: http://onthedlpodcast.com/2010/06/dl-exclusive-ian-darke-explains-his-call-of-american-soccers-greatest-goal/
  12. http://leisureblogs.chicagotribune.com/about-last-night/2010/06/chicago-fire-player-marries-playboy-model-after-dating-seven-weeks.html Krol never shows this much game on the pitch.
  13. If so, why not for the other three? :? Because of that list, Victor Valdez, Pepe Reina and Julio Caesar are equal or better. And of teams not on that list that obviously should be, Iker Casillas is better. Gianluigi Buffon is harder to call.
  14. I read that to say that Howard is talented enough to start for 7 of those teams, not that 7 of them have the need and would get rid of their current keeper if Howard were available. Correct. Again, i don't see Tim going anywhere. Keepers who aren't out of contract just don't move a lot. Everton is fine for him anyway. I was just saying he is a better keeper in my opinion than 7 of those teams have as starters. I think he could start for United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Bayern, Sevilla, Milan and Lyon.
  15. You gotta love non-European world cups. These teams just suck outside of the continent.
  16. It's Slut City, bro.
  17. There's nothing inaccurate rambling about flopping. And it's kind of ridiculous to expect everybody to appreciate what other people like about a different entertainment form, which is all this stuff is. NASCAR is dumb. I don't care that other people find entertainment in it. It does nothing for me. Soccer I can appreciate, even if I hated playing as a kid (but loved indoor soccer). Let's step back a little from the "only fuddy duddy white people don't like soccer" and just enjoy the moment a bit. I think you're missing my point and/or I'm not expressing it good enough. I hate NASCAR too, but if a fan were to tell me they like it because the drivers are just like them, they can get drunk, there's tons of sluts around, the cars are fast, the sound is loud and the wrecks are numerous and dangerous, I'd say yeah, if that's what you're after, it's probably a good "sport" for them. Even though all that stuff sounds super great to me, I can't get over the whole redneck culture. So I watch the occasional F1 and IRL race instead. When people say they don't like soccer because of flopping, but at the same time can't concede the positive points like I just did for NASCAR, I don't like it. Yes flopping is part of the game, yes I concede it's not likable, but that obviously isn't all there is to the game. I don't care if on balance the negatives don't outweigh the positives for somebody, but don't act like the positives don't exist and I'm an effeminate socialist (and possibly gay) for liking soccer.
  18. Yes it would be insanely outlandish. Besides that, you're remembering Guzan in Villa's cup runs? Do you remember Tim winning year before last's FA Cup semifinal vs United in pk's? He's a great penalty stopper himself. This is something a non-NBA fan would say without knowing what the actual ratings and interest is. Game 7 of the NBA finals was the highest rated summer network television program since Jordan was winning rings. 28.2 million viewers is not even a pipe dream for "third-tier" sports like hocket, soccer, nascar etc. 1) I just get a little itchy when the Beatles are dissed in any way (though I don't believe that was wolf's intent). Yeah I love Miles Davis and the Beatles which is why I used them intentionally. I love baseball, basketball and like football and hockey. Even sports I don't like (NASCAR) I can still appreciate what other people like about them. I'd like people to give that respect to soccer. I don't care if they like it, just don't make me listen to your tiresome, inaccurate ramblings about grass fairies, flopping and boredom. Here's the current list (UEFA team ranking): 1 FC Barcelona Esp 2 Manchester United Eng 3 Chelsea Eng 4 Arsenal Eng Liverpool Eng 6 Bayern München Ger 7 Sevilla Esp 8 Internazionale Ita 9 AC Milan Ita 10 Olympique Lyon Fra Where does he go? I don't think he'll go anywhere until Moyes does. People rarely pay top dollar to acquire keepers who are under contract. He could start for 7 of those team though.
  19. DeMerit won't go. He is Watford. Plus he's relatively old. He should and wants to stay with the club and fans he loves. Tim is the same way to a lesser degree. He's got a good 10 years left in his prime as a keeper, but he loves Everton. That being said, I could see him moving to a huge club if the price is right for both the challenge and the financial gain at stake for both he and Everton. He's a different case than any of our other potential transfer targets in that he's already played for a super club. In fact, arguably the biggest club in the world. The most likely scenario for Tim moving on is when Moyes gets a big job. I could see both of them at United when SAF retires. Bradley could be useful to a ton of massive clubs. Arsenal need a player like him, Liverpool could get him to replace Mascherano, making a tidy profit without losing quality. He'd be great in Italy. Juve and Milan could use him. Closer to his club home, Bayern could really use him as a long-term partner with Schweinsteiger with Van Bommel getting up there. Sky's the limit with Mikey.
  20. Soccer in this country is like Rap in that old people, ignorant people or to be more kind, "traditionalists" either can't or don't want to understand it's influence and importance. They'd rather listen to the Beatles, Miles Davis or whatever and snobbishly dismiss Jay Z as a thug who just talks over obnoxious beats. My attitude is the same towards both attitudes. You're missing out and you sound stupid. That's on you.
  21. I've loved the few people who still insist on mentioning that they think soccer is stupid when they see me in my world cup craze. Hey guy, I couldn't give a s. I used to concern myself with things like "why don't people like soccer?" or "how can I get more people to like soccer?" but now I don't care. We're a large enough community to matter on a global scale, our players are good enough to matter on a global scale and everyone who isn't on board now is just missing out. I can only imagine how exciting this would be for a new fan who just now discovered this US team. For a real sports fan, it's gotta be like hearing Bob Dylan or Wu Tang for the first time. It's just awesome.
  22. 32+Cook for 18? 32 for 18+Cook. Miami's trying to shave cash for FA. You know your cap rules are [expletive] when teams do things like this and what the Suns did for like 4 years in a row.
  23. If you like smooth, cool guys it's Dempsey. If you like red assed, hyper-competitive dynamos, go Michael Bradley. LOVE your sig. Buddle's just standing there like "woah wait a minute" Yeah that and Dempsey on his back leaning up on his elbows to see what happened after he crashed.
