  2. England is a loss, so its not a huge difference either way but I worry about his confidence against guys like Lampard and Gerrard. i think Edu will start.

  4. Seriously. Not since O'Brien and Reyna. This is a huge shot for him to. He wants to go to Europe and this is his show case.
  5. Torres has been playing like we've all wanted with much more confidence and speed. Looks like he belongs. Also, I guess it's possible that Bob Bradley knows way more about soccer than us. Findley looked like Charlie Davies out there today. So is this our best 11? ------------------------------Howard---------------------------------- -----Cherundolo------DeMerit-------Onyewu-------Bocanegra----- ----Donovan---------Bradley--------Torres----------Dempsey------ -------------------Findley-------------Altidore------------------------ It was only one game, but I can't stress enough how awesome Torres and Findley were. They filled our biggest weaknesses. Link up through the midfield and speed opening up space for Landon. If that 11 had played the whole game, we could have won 4 or 5 nil.
  6. August 10 friendly v Brazil in New Jersey has been scheduled. Interesting kickoff for whoever replaces Bradley if we suck. Also, Algeria got smoked by Ireland, 3-0 today.
  7. Paul Williams Rose Rondo Nash The Bulls don't make the playoffs this year with Rondo at the point. Being able to dominate a game without scoring is a wonderful ability to have, but that only works in the context of the team. Taking team out of it, I think most gm's would rather have Derrick if they are starting from scratch.
  8. I think the only way he isn't coaching the Lakers next season is if he moves to a front office. This is silly. No one thinks office is all that matters. Besides that, no one thinks Rondo is an elite defender (if someone does, they are wrong). He's not even a good defender. Derrick is a better scorer, 2 years younger and is physically superior to Rondo across the board. The Rondo hype has gotten to be a little much these playoffs. He's a top 5 point guard in the league, an all star and a very good player. He is not a superstar.
  9. http://www.soccer365.com/us_news/story_26510222948.php 1- Stevie C is not Roma level, right? 2- Beasley is not getting interest from any of those teams. No way.
  10. Max Bretos bring up an interesting point on his twitter re: Findley. I hadn't thought of how the pace would play, especially late, against Algeria and Slovenia. Are they known for not handling speed well?
  11. It speaks to our lack of depth when we could have such an unexpected roster choice in addition to getting embarrassed last night and yet our expectations are exactly the same as they were when the groups was announced. None of the this changes a thing because we'll be using the same 13-14 guys the entire time and most of them didn't play last night.
  12. As a country with very few forward who bring more than one elite skill to the table (Jozy = strength & pace; also ever-improving finishing, hold up play and passing. Charlie = Strength, pace, directness, ball skills in the box ((not sexual)) and passing on the counter. Clint = finishing, creativity, passing, technical ability), we have to settle for the guy who brings the most to the table. At least Brian Ching brings elite strength and hold up play to the table. Eddie Johnson has one elite skill (speed) but doesn't know what to do with the ball when he gets there. Ching's skill set offers more in an international game than anyone not named Jozy or Clint.
  13. Ching was/is slow too. I would have really like to see Gomez with Buddle and Johnson with Ching or vice versa for the speed offset. The two fast guys and two slow guys was an odd pairing. Clint thrives when he's got people against him whether the competition/conflict is real or imagined. I think it's obvious that Landon gets too much handed to him because he's the only thing close to a big name player in America, especially by ESPN, US Soccer and the non-soccer American media. Real soccer fans know who the hell Clint Dempsey is but I understand why it would get old. I would say he could have buried it, maybe should have but it wasn't a sitter. It wasn't the first CR chance that the dude spun wide left. The reason I don't hate Gomez's miss is the reason I've been pulling for him over Buddle and Johnson this whole time. Just being able to put a shot (or header for that matter) on frame with a little mustard is often more than those dogs can provide. I want to see Hahnemann this Saturday.
  14. Also, sorry USS, but your boy Beasley is most definitely going to be in South Africa.
  15. Things we already knew: Our starting lineup is much, much better than our reserves. Maurice Edu is not an international center back, good thing he's not supposed to be. Gooch would be rusty. Kljestan is a lazy/unaware defender. There's a reason Heath Pearce disappoints despite looking awesome at times. Things we didn't know: Clarence Goodson can be a dominant set piece weapon. Gomez doesn't miss open chances at the intl level either. Maurice Edu can be excellent central midfield partner for Michael Bradley. Maybe certain names not being on the final roster tomorrow will make me feel better about this game.
  16. Heath Pearce and Sacha Kljestan just killed their World Cup dreams. Pearce got caught on both goals while he was on the field. Sacha standing in the box with his thumb up his ass on the third goal was pathetic. For someone with such great offensive vision, he sure has a tendency to go [expletive] blind on defense.
  17. Clint Dempsey telling it like it is. http://worldcup.si.com/2010/05/25/dempsey-harkes-criticism-off-base/
  18. Apparently we're going to see a lot of bubble guys tonight.
  19. I didn't watch. What went down?
  20. NO Do you think there's a chance he could make Rose even 1/50th as good defensively as Ronda? That way Rose would only be half as good as Ronda overall. Dude, Rondo made Thibodeau, not the other way around. You know that. You could let Derrick play with a sword, outlaw calling any kind of violations on him and he'd still be worse than Rajon.
  21. I'd guess Canada is about as good as Cape Verde Islands. Argentina's 2nd team is probably as good as Canada. Dude, Argentina could go 20 deep at every position and be better. Not an exaggeration.
  22. If you guys haven't gotten a chance to check out Adam Spangler's profile of Sacha Kljestan over at www.thisisamericansoccer.com you should do so. It's excellent. Touches on the flaws in the US National set up as well as our pathetic coaching. Also shines some light on the transfer to Celtic that never happened and all of that.
  23. Yahoo? Edit - Yes, Yahoo. I'm in.
  24. Nkufo should help. Especially draw attention from Montero. Robben and Ribery are both better than Milito. I love Milito because he just flat doesn't miss chances, but he's too slow to be at the pinnacle with players like Torres, Villa, Rooney, Drogba and Messi in terms of forwards. He's a perfect player for Mourinho's system though because with the focus on defense, they can't afford to miss chances. Seriously though, the defensive organization of Inter today was just sexy. You could see the 4-2-3-1 shape flexing and then reassembling almost instantly with every stopped attack. Gorgeous.
  25. Herculez Gomez signs with Pachuca: http://usa10kit.com/2010/05/21/herculez-to-join-torres-at-pachuca/ I like it. Mexico is working for hims so I'm glad he stuck there and joined a big club.
