  1. I recall Lieber firing a one-hitter on 91 pitches in 2001. I would guess Maddux had one. Yep, after looking it up, he had a 92 pitch CG on July 22, 2004. Mitre pulled a 99-pitch CG job on June 14, 2005 vs. Florida.
  2. http://home.comcast.net/~bcvm22/SteroidsPaper.doc I love this paper. It's not the best paper I've ever written, but it had my love of baseball behind it, and I procrastinated terribly but typically in writing it. I stayed up all night gathering research and writing it, watched the sun rise as I printed it out, got 2 hours of sleep, had a Spider-Man moment the next morning when I had to run to catch the bus in order to get to class on time, sat in class watching my hand move due to the lack of sleep, and then went back to my dorm and slept the rest of the day. :D Enjoy.
  3. "According to Indians director of media services Bart Swain, the Tribe is requesting that it be allowed to have one or all its players wear Doby's No. 14, which was retired by the club in 1994, on the anniversary of that event. The Dodgers will all be wearing No. 42, which was retired throughout baseball in 1997, the day of Robinson's anniversary." http://cleveland.indians.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070405&content_id=1880875&vkey=news_cle&fext=.jsp&c_id=cle
  4. Bill Hall and Carlos Lee added.

Sabathia, SP, Cleveland Indians (not scheduled to pitch that day) Coco Crisp, OF, Boston Red Sox Derrek Lee, 1B, Chicago Cubs Dmitri Young, 1B, Washington Nationals Dontrelle Willis, SP, Florida Marlins Gary Matthews, Jr., OF, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Gary Sheffield, OF, Detroit Tigers Jimmy Rollins, SS, Philadelphia Phillies Josh Barfield, 2B, Cleveland Indians Ken Griffey, Jr., OF, Cincinatti Reds Mike Cameron, OF, San Diego Padres Milton Bradley, OF, Oakland Athletics Orlando Hudson, 2B, Arizona Diamondbacks Torii Hunter, OF, Minnesota Twins Willie Randolph, manager, New York Mets The entire 25-man roster of the Los Angeles Dodgers Teams not yet having publically confirmed a participant: Chicago White Sox Atlanta Braves Houston Astros St. Louis Cardinals Baltimore Orioles Texas Rangers Colorado Rockies Tampa Bay Devil Rays Toronto Blue Jays Milwaukee Brewers Seattle Mariners Kansas City Royals Pittsburgh Pirates Yankees don't count because Mariano's been wearing No. 42 his entire career.
  6. I've done research papers on uniforms, steroid use and on-field violence in sports. Anything can be a good research paper topic with the right resources and some creativity.
  7. Didn't see this posted yet (might be 'cuz no one cares, but oh well) http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070405&content_id=1880977&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r71/bcvm22/prod.jpg I really like this, to be honest. It's a classy move on the part of Selig (happens every so often) and the individual players participating, a list that includes Griffey, Bonds, Crisp, Willis and undoubtedly others.
  8. i dont think thats what he said. Lou: "It's [expletive] cold out here, dammit! Save the damn game and let's get the [expletive] inside!" Demp: "...kay."
  9. I blame his choice of jerseys. I mean, look at him: http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20070402/capt.csb11604022053.cubs_reds_baseball_csb116.jpg He's an alternate blue man. He's clearly thinking "Why did I pick the greys today?"
  10. Can't see the game; what uniforms are the Cubs wearing today?
  11. Heard it on ESPN 1000 this morning... Apparently Blanco's representative was indicted on counts of conspiracy to smuggle Cuban players into America. Neither Blanco nor the Cubs are under suspicion of any wrongdoing, but since Blanco's agent used Blanco's bank account to launder the money, Blanco was subpoenaed and has to testify. In Venezuela. He's scheduled to fly down there on the Cubs' off day Tuesday, and hopes to testify Wednesday, but depending on how long all that takes, it could be Thursday or Friday before he's back with the team. Nothing major, but I chuckled.
  12. http://www.progressiveboink.com/dugout/kylefarnsworthyankees.jpg pr0FF3ss0r_F4rnsw0rth: no wait, yer toughest man is no doubt ronny cedeno. jimmy tomey could a broked that cancerous dink o'er his leg bones
  13. If my OPS was .686 as a starting shortstop I would want to leave it all on the field too.
  14. Except Milwaukee is an hour's drive north of Chicago, easily done by many Cub fans. Pittsburgh is significantly further away, and to either fly there or drive what I imagine would be the multiple days' drive there is somewhat outside the means of someone who has a day or a weekend to kill and wants to see a road game.
  15. Worked for Walker. Statistically, it's been proven he hit better when he had the scruff working. :)
  16. They've been using these since last season. The same material and design are used in the new batting practice jerseys. They're easily identifiable by the stretch gusset at the armpit.
  17. Empathy is one thing; everyone here can empathize with a manager making the wrong choices at the top of the lineup. Sympathy is another; Ozzie's fetish with "grinders" or whatever your preferred term is was going to bite someone in the ass eventually.
  18. I feel for you, but my Spidey sense says you might be looking in the wrong place for sympathy.
  19. It writes itself.
  20. I find it unrealistic. We all know that if Pierzynski tried to get within 5 feet of Z, much less to rip off an eyebrow, Z would strike him out on 3 pitches and then kill him 12 different ways.
  21. Definitely a sight I could get used to.
  22. Kids these days. Everything too early. My senior prom was the 3rd week of May and, I might add, coincided with the 2005 Cubs-Sox series at Wrigley. Needless to say I had my radio with me that weekend... What? Sammy? Oh, right. I hope that he plays beyond 2007 and is able to get one more at-bat at Wrigley, just so he knows that not every fan wearing blue was ready to run him out of town. Either way, though, here's to a big 2007 for Sammy.
  23. Asking to prom? In March? Anyway, always good to see Sammy walking up the comeback trail. It's a shame the Cubs go to Texas for interleague play and not vice versa
