  1. Longest last name ever for a major league player at 14 letters.
  2. Salty up with the Braves after Brayan Pena goes on the DL, in the starting lineup for Atlanta tonight. Game's on ESPN, now - Berman and Phillips with the call. Exercise caution. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-bravesmoves&prov=ap&type=lgns
  3. Still rain up the wazoo around Pittsburgh.
  4. http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r71/bcvm22/Weather.gif Grab a cold one. Could be a while.
  5. Nope. Pie put on a No. 11 jersey and took the field just for giggles. Only possible explanation.
  6. How many times is Lilly going to slip tonight?!
  7. [expletive] And of course, despite Bautista doing his best A-Rod impression, no interference called.
  8. Cesar's got decent career numbers against Armas. "Blind squirrel meet nut" and all that, I guess.
  9. 69 pitches for Rich through 5. EDIT: Damn.
  10. Hope Hill's ok. Pat sounds very concerned.
  11. great now everyone is doing this It's almost as bad as that one picture of Gabrielle Union that kept taking up space on my screen every time I'd try to read a game thread.
  12. They signed him to a minor league contract with a base value of $500,000 and incentives that, if met, could make it worth about $2 million. I don't know what the value of each incentive is, though.
  13. i saw this quote in the St L PD. Anybody recall the nature of the video? I don't think I ever heard about it. All of this boggles the mind. I thought the cards and their fans were supposed to be classy. Remember how they gave Griffey a standing O for his 500th??!!1!1 I think you'll always find some bad eggs among any fanbase; Cards fans who are absolutely vulgar toward Cub fans, vice versa, etc., but I didn't know about the video board thing quoted above. I'm not naive enough to think that La Russa's only reason for that, and denouncing this newspaper article, is "respect for the Cubs," but just the same, it's a little classier than I normally give La Russa credit for. I can't find any video online, but SportsCenter's been showing it with some frequency, and there's an audio version here titled "La Russa's tirade"
  14. I was following both as well. Boy are my pits damp.
  15. Where'd the 3-year suspension come from? He violated a little-known MLB rule by send the Royals 4 bottles of Dom Perignon in recognition of their sweep of Detroit at the end of last season, allowing the Twins to take the division. MLB Rule 21-b, "Gift For Defeating Competing Club" states that anyone connected with a particular team from offering a gift or reward to a person connected with another club for an attempt to defeat a competing club. The giver and receiver, without notification of the commissioner's office, are subject to ineligibility for "not less than three years." Given that the Royals sent the bottles back, unopened, upon being contacted by Twins GM Terry Ryan, I'd hope Hunter could avoid anything stronger than a reprimand and/or a small fine, but this is Major League Baseball we're talking about, so who knows.
  16. Soriano in left, Pie in center, Murt in right, Theriot at shortstop per ESPN 1000
  17. Ron expected to return May 4 vs. Washington.
  18. Well, game over. This team can't score one run, much less enough to win. See everyone Friday, since tomorrow will probably get rained out.
  19. Supposedly Marquis was all set to play first base in the Padres extravaganza last week. This could get ugly.
  20. I hope only that if a man that large ever slides into my knee, the leg can be saved.
  21. I really hope you're imagining things... So do I, but it looks like he has his hand on his hamstring as he takes his lead away from first. This is like when I see that light blinking on my wireless router; I think, "Did it always do that?"
