  1. Let's try and make it the Fukudome thread again, eh? Tokyo is 16 hours ahead of Central Time; anyone who intends to keep watching for updates, perk your proverbial ears up around 7-8 PM (11 AM-noon Tokyo time).
  2. OK, make up your damn mind, Kfuk I'm assuming it'll be closer to midday in Japan when any announcement will be made, and noon there is 8 PM CT.
  3. If the guy signs with the Cubs, he can challenge Rodman for "Worst Dressed Chicago Athlete" for all I care.
  4. http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2007/12/09/the-dugout-f-ks-k/ Dear G-- I mean, I find this piece of comedic writing to be uproariously entertaining. Better?
  5. The consensus seems to be that Fukudome's decision will be announced on Tuesday in Japan. Japan, or at least Tokyo is 16 hours ahead of Central time, so just as it was about midnight Saturday night (into Sunday morning) that we got word of his declaration that he'll play in America next season, I expect it'll be late Monday night into early Tuesday morning that we hear any announcements made.
  6. I don't know the dimensions of whatever venue this is in, but damn
  7. For what it's worth, there was a Tribune bitlet yesterday that claimed the Sox' interest in him was "lukewarm at the moment."
  8. I don't know the specifics but I swear having read something that said that whatever additional revenue the Red Sox received purely because of Daisuke was a largely underwhelming amount. I could be remembering it completely wrong. I do know that MLB clubs get revenue only from merchandise sold by outlets that the club operates, i.e. the Cubs get the revenue only from merchandise they sell at Wrigley and the Cubs Clubhouse Stores, and the revenue from merchandise sold elsewhere goes into MLB's revenue sharing.
  9. Nothing too new, but Rotoworld still has the Cubs as the front-runners. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=rotowire-osukeukudomeubsookik&prov=rotowire&type=fantasy All the more painful when he opts to sign with San Diego, right?
  10. So you're telling me I can't even trust Retrosheet for information anymore? Blah. Go Kosuke. 8-[
  11. Roberts wasn't on their Series roster. http://retrosheet.org/boxesetc/2004/UPBOS32004.htm
  12. OK, I'll bite: which player on Boston's 2004 World Series roster was born in Japan?
  13. Excellent news. Except now we'll probably hear "Fukudome-san wishes to take 2 weeks to meet with all of the interested teams so as not to dishonor any of them."
  14. As in Bartolo Colon, The guy who hasn't been completely healthy since 2005? The guy who's made 28 starts and pitched 155 2/3 innings over the last 2 seasons? That Bartolo Colon? That's an upgrade?
  15. That's how Rotoworld indicates a player who will miss or has missed time, with the reason in parentheses. Example: Kerry Wood (shoulder), Josh Hamilton (stomach whatever), Ken Griffey Jr. (hamstring), Mike Cameron (25-game suspension). The news didn't have anything to with his elbow surgery, but it is what was indicated by (elbow).
  16. He had surgery in August to remove bone fragments from his right elbow. He's expected to be ready and able come the spring.
  17. Tuesday for a decision now? ](*,) Per Rotoworld by way of Yahoo! Sports: Update: Fukudome (elbow) is expected to announce his contract status on Tuesday, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Recommendation: His agent reports that Fukudome has not yet decided whether to play in the United States. Fukudome's top options appear to be the Yomiuri Giants, Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres. It seems like the Cubs are the front-runners because Fukudome is expected to make a financially based decision and they are believed to be the highest bidders at the moment. Financially-based decision? I dunno if that's good or bad. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=rotowire-osukeukudomexpectedt&prov=rotowire&type=fantasy
  18. Is Aaron Rowand really a sure thing in your opinion?
  19. I think everyone's significantly more pessimistic this time. Geoff Jenkins. :|
  20. It's funny that despite being a free agent instead of a posted player, it'll still take him about as long to sign with a new team (NPB or MLB) as it did for the Matsu-saga to run its course last year.
  21. $11M signing bonus $5M at signing 1/05, $2M 6/15/05, $2M 1/15/06, $2M 1/15/07 05:$10M, 06:$12M, 07:$12M, 08:$18.5M, 09:$18.5M, 10:$18.5M, 11:$18.5M $0.1M bonus each for All Star, Gold Glove or Silver Slugger $0.2M bonus for 4th-place finish in 2006 NL MVP vote $22M deferred to 2012-18 8 annual installments of $3,142,857 @ 1.7175% interest $8.5M deferred annually from 2008-2011 As for his performance, it sounds like he's at least as good if not better than Beltran defensively, and if it so happens that he hits as well here as he did in Japan, he'll compare very favorably offensively.
  22. Another overnight period to be spent constantly refreshing the thread. #-o
  23. Every few days, we hear "it'll be another few days."
