  1. Seriously it took over 3 hours, I wish they were all as short as Matt Holliday's round was. HAHAHA is that a shot? Because I'm a Cardinals fan? You really killed me there. No it wasn't... I had no idea you were a cardinals fan. I was checking the clock during the first round about how slow Cano and Gonzalez's rounds were and Hollidays was much faster, even faster than Weeks. The cubs are just about the worst team in baseball I can't exactly talk crap about any other teams. I'm not a dick I wouldn't bash you for that.
  2. It's probably the most recognizable rules infraction punishment in all of sports. In the history of mankind. With the possible exception of Caesar doing the thumbs up thumbs down thing. Nope, still more famous. I think you are severely overestimating the knowledge that American's have of this sport, and yes I will admit that this includes me since it seems everyone else knew it but me and I don't have the excuse of not playing the sport. I swear to god though I've never been in a competitive game with a red card and Sunday was the most soccer I've ever watched on tv. I definitely wasn't a dirty player though.

  4. I'm not sure what view he has of the trajectory of the ball, but he seems to usually be way off on the home runs, although he may just act like everything is a bomb to make it sound more exciting.
  5. Better to keep quiet and be thought an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. I've mainly been a lurker for years and now I can see why. People hound you for saying anything they consider stupid or ignorant, although this is the internet so I can't be shocked.
  6. Better to keep quiet and be thought an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. What exactly am I at fault for doing? I played a lot of soccer, but I never said I was an expert. I even stated I found Soccer boring to watch and was just saying that our rules were different in the leagues I played in. I stopped playing when I was 16 and in my experience that was not a rule or at least I never saw it. This all started by me asking a simple question and then had all the soccer nerds bash me for it.
  7. Yes for 25 years and also in Mexico. 2 yellows = 1 red, red card and your kicked out the rest of this game and the next game and your team plays down a man for the rest of the current game. This rule is universal and has been around forever. Wow you must have been pretty good, I loved playing it but once I got a job in high school I quit the team since a 120 dollar paycheck was pretty nice when you are living on 20 dollars a month. I guess I've just never seen a red card in a competitive league because I checked the rules and all the Youth Soccer leagues that was not how they played, you just were out for the rest of the game. I know thats rec though so obviously they will have some pretty loose rules. One of our teammate's dad played professionally in scotland and his son was amazing. It really makes me wonder how good out mens team would be if it was our number one sport. At the moment its our top athletes 4th choice, maybe even lower.
  8. lawl Have any of you ragging on me ever played soccer competitively? You may think I'm an idiot because you watch FIFA and knew that rule, but from my view I have played soccer for near 12 years and that was never a rule for me so why should I think it was a rule for FIFA? Sorry I didn't play in college or in Europe so I don't know the rules.
  9. The only one that looked credible was from last year so maybe it was just some joe-schmo who I thought was an analyst on ESPN. Anyway did anyone here play soccer competitively and what was their rule on red cards?
  10. I was at work trying not to look like I was working so I didn't exactly double check what I typed. Read a little bit beyond the first paragraph, yes I know it is the same text but it's from 3 different websites. Just read the part about yellow and red cards and them changing the rules.
  11. Its a red card near the goal if it seems intentional.
  12. Nope. I'm very curious what the source of this "FIFA re-considering red cards meaning a man down" news is. took me one minute on yahoo to find 3 sources http://www.todayszaman.com/newsDetail_getNewsById.action?load=detay&newsId=243687&link=243687 http://thedailynewsegypt.com/football/saving-the-beautiful-game-a-radical-revision-of-the-rules-of-football-part-2.html http://soccerlens.com/saving-the-beautiful-game-a-radical-revision-of-the-rules-of-football/69633/ explain Oh I see why everyone was giving me a hard time. Edit "I'd argue that playing 1 person down is a little bit too much of an advantage, especially for what the US received the red card for. " Obviously it's an advantage...
  13. I need you to post more, please. Am I really coming off to be that much of an idiot? I just started off asking a serious question and was given smart-alec responses back. I have a lot of experience playing US youth soccer but like I said before I have 0 experience watching soccer or anything FIFA. As some of you may know red cards aren't exactly common and they don't kick you out of the game without a sub in any games I've played. Ironically I loved playing soccer because I was good at it but I find it boring as sin to watch it on tv. BTW when does the US play France? ESPN's soccer pages are poorly built.
  14. I'd argue that playing 1 person down is a little bit of an advantage, especially for what the US received the red card for. If you pull a Zidane and headbutt someone then maybe it is justified, but kicking a player out for his behavior in any sport and also penalizing the team is too extreme imo. Also from what I heard from ESPN FIFA is going to reconsider the rule since a lot of people evidently complain about it.
  15. I suppose maybe I never saw a red card in a competitive league before and I'm sure recreation has different rules since its co-ed and everything. Eitherway that is a stupid rule, they don't play 4-5 in basketball when someone gets tossed.
  16. That isn't a rule in American Youth leagues. Yellow card is a warning 2 I think kicks you out, and a red card kicks you out for that game but you can replace him. Did any of you guys play or did you just assume Fifa rules were universal? I mean I guess I could be wrong because red cards happened like once every few years but I've never recalled that happening.
  17. Wtf seriously? I've played in games when people get red cards but they just get kicked out of the game. That was not a rule in any league I've ever played in and I played rec and competitive for 12 years. I have absolutely 0 professional soccer knowledge though and never watch FIFA, so thats new to me. That seems like a completely stupid rule though and makes their win even more shocking. P.S. I'm 24, why did you ask my age? Is this a new rule or something?
  18. even in that case he should know about red cards. Hey jerks! I know what the heck a redcard is but they made it sound like they were playing with one less player on the field. I mean sure they had a player who was unable to come back into the game but that wasn't what they made it sound like. Also I only watched the last 30 minutes so I didn't see the redcard which would have made more sense. I don't think being a player down would really be that big of a deal though, a well trained player should be able to play most the game without resting, its not like you are sprinting constantly, half the time you sit and wait for the ball to get near you. Was it a good player who was kicked out or a sub?
  19. Why do they keep saying the U.S. is down a player? What does that mean and how did it happen? I played soccer almost all my life but I've never heard of a team being down a player. This isn't hockey...
  20. I've got 4 tickets to Monday's game. I put them on Ebay for 1 day, since 3 would have ended on Monday. So far no bids and it ends in 10 hours so if anyone is looking to get some tickets for pretty cheap here is the id. Currently listed for 50 each, I paid 100 each. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220776618637&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT
  21. I don't really get the correlation, but yes. In so many ways. I thought so! It wasn't so much I wanted them to lose but if they did lose I thought I would look on the bright side. I'm pretty sure if the Hawk's season was over a decent amount of people who are Hawks fans would focus on other sports, probably basketball given how good the Bulls are. Therefore there would be a bigger market for people wanting tickets. I don't know anybody who would want to go to a Bulls playoff game if the Hawks aren't playing, but wouldn't want to go to a Bulls playoff game so they can watch the Hawks on TV. My rationale was just that at least some people would spend their money on Bulls tickets if there weren't hawks playoff games for them to buy. I'm guessing 90% of Hawks fans that care about basketball are also Bulls fans, at least most of my friends seem to be.

  23. Is it wrong that I kind of wanted the Hawks to lose so I could sell my Bulls playoff tickets for more?
  24. The bulls because they have boozer and deng and an awesome bench.
  25. Not to look too far ahead but it looks like Dwight Howard is going to be suspended for the game against the bulls. That pretty much pencils that in as a W and makes our remaining schedule after Boston quite easy.
