  1. Hopefully the break will benefit Glendon and he can come back strong in the 2nd half. We really need a push from our bullpen if we are to get back in the WC race.
  2. I was all for the Sosa deal and totally against the signing of Burnitz so I'll take the split on that and keep rooting for Jeromy to continue his good production.
  3. With the kind of year Derrek is having, I'm glad that he is signed for next year at a modest $8M. I would hate to be Hendry if Lee was becoming a FA after a year like this. On another note, Lee has pretty much silenced all the talk about who won out in the Hee Siop Choi trade. I'm sure Jim had high hopes for Derrek but even he had no idea that Lee was capable of such a monster season.
  4. The 3B starter hasn't been officially announced but we can pretty much write Aram in as he is the top vote getter among players and 2nd best among fan voting. Congrats also to Ensberg as he is also deserving. You would have to think that personal performance (and not just health) figured heavily into Rolen's decision to back out.
  5. It's really refreshing to see men on base in front of our run producers. :D
  6. Nice start, Matt. Keep this up and you just might earn yourself a big league job for years to come.
  7. Unfortunately you'll have to swallow them and play nice :)
  8. Our starting pitching has underperformed and our offense was not that good to begin with and it was made even worse by Dusty's poor lineup management.
  9. Getting a player like Huff would fit in Hendry's statement that he is looking for a player that will help the Cubs for years to come (as opposed to a rental).
  10. Just shows you that I'm reading the site every day. Now if we could only get Dusty to do the same...
  11. Baker has been given the tools to get it done in the past two years, but unfortunately they were not the tools that he wanted. Ergo he has NOT used them so he has NOT gotten it done.
  12. According to a Cubs employee, Patterson has 4.007 years of MLS which means that the Cubs can still option him to the minors without his consent once. Had he been past 5 MLS then the Cubs would have needed to get his consent to be sent down. Another part of it is since Corey has passed the 3 years MLS sending him down required that he clear major league (revocable) waivers. The most likely scenario is that Patterson along with several other players were placed on waivers days before this. Teams often place their players on waivers in groups so as to disguise from the other teams which player will be moved. After Corey cleared waivers, then Hendry was free to either trade him or option him to the minors. Of course, the next time the Cubs bring Corey up, they will no longer be able to send him down again without his consent.
  13. Get well soon (mentally)!
  14. Whoever does the writeups for Rotoworld is big on sarcastic humor. I enjoy most of them though.
  15. Can Bruce Miles be an MLB manager? We could sure use those ideas practiced on this team.
  16. There's a decent chance Dusty might give some playing time to the new kids. He can probably hear the fat lady warming up already for his job.
  17. From the neck down, that is.
  18. Well that explains why his swing has been off the past week. Same for Derrek Lee. I wonder how the two got matching shoulder problems...
  19. Here's the Cubs.com article Hendry on Corey: Hendry on Murton and Greenberg: Dubois on being sent down: Corey on being sent down:
  20. Let's set Dusty aside for a moment (for eternity if I had a choice). 1) MURTON could very easily be plugged into LF. The CF spot Corey vacated can be filled by Hairston, Burnitz or Holly. 2) COREY will either spend 1 to 2 weeks in Iowa and hopefully get a new lease on life or this will be a precursor to a trade (this would have to mean though that Hendry finally got an offer he liked). I have stated before that for Corey to be sent down all the Cubs needed to do was secure major league (revocable) waivers for him. It's possible that the club already got this a while back since it is something that is usually done quietly. 3) GREENBERG will be a PR/PH at best. I don't see how he would fit into the lineup ahead of Murton since Matt is a much better hitter and has the same speed on the bases. Greenberg is better defensively I think.
  21. After this past week, quite a few Cubs fans might agree with him.
  22. He would probably make more contact if he took his glove to the plate too.
  23. dude, put it in the Rants Section
  24. That Z-o-meter seems to be stuck. Oh right the Cubs have to win for it to move.
  25. Get off Dusty's case. He's not really the manager but the Ego Masseuse.
