  1. By league and by current record (not last season's record). Blue Jays put Matt Stairs on waivers. Tampa Bay has first crack. Then Texas. And so on until Boston. Then Pittsburgh. Then Cincinnati. And so on until the Mets. Reds put Jeff Conine on waivers. Pittsburgh has first crack. Then Cincinnati. And so on until the Mets. Then Tampa Bay. Then Texas. And so on until Boston. And, actually, the claims aren't made in order. It's a big free-for-all over a seven (?) day period, then the claims get sorted out. It's not like, if Tampa Bay claims Stairs, MLB lets everyone know that it's over and not to bother.
  2. If the Cubs can't beat Woody Williams tonight, they should be contracted. On Wednesday, Zambrano is going to have to pitch a complete game shutout and hit a home run.
  3. I think the reason he's appealing is that he isn't Joe Morgan. "In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king."
  4. Every team in baseball will have a chance to take Dopirak. However, if they want him, they will have to put him on their 40-man roster. It is unlikely, but not impossible, that any team will want to do that. If no team chooses to take him under those terms, we can send him to the minor league club of our choosing. This winter, we will have another chance to re-add him to the 40-man roster. If we don't, Dopirak will be eligible to be selected in December's Rule 5 draft. Since Wade Miller was on the 60-day DL, he was not occupying a spot on the 40-man roster. As such, releasing him does not free up a spot.
  5. He was rostered too early and he had the pressures of his option clock working against him. Derostering him now stops the clock and gives him a chance to reestablish some value, be that here or with another organization. Regardless, he'll probably wind up being nothing.
  6. The other thing that makes this peculiar is that, by promoting him, he would now need to pass through waivers to be traded. That wasn't true yesterday.
  7. You've scooped some moves before. Are you playing coy about it or is that really a guess on your part? Just a guess. Eyre's pitching better. I wouldn't be surprised if Piniella has lost patience with Ohman. Hendry's long been interested in Monroe. Even in a horrible year for Monroe, he apparently can still hit LHP. He'd also have a non-trivial chance of hitting a home run now and then, which is more than you can say for our other outfielders.
  8. I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that Hendry acquires Craig Monroe in a deal involving Will Ohman.
  9. Did he even swing? Those were all close. nope , the last one was a ball. Jones is just killing this team. Pie has got to be watching this pud try to play CF and wonder whose fanny he has to kiss to get in the major league lineup.
  10. Send Murton and Cedeno down. Sign both Cruz and Kielty. Get DeRosa some work at shortstop.
  11. Only players on a 40-man roster would have to pass through waivers.
  12. Just watch - we'll get a report from Bruce Miles that Hendry and his cronies thought it was by last season's record. D'oh!
  13. His contract has a team option for 2008, which goes away if he is traded.
  14. An argument against revenue sharing if I've ever seen one...
  15. 100% correct. Even incremental improvements can help. For heaven's sake, go get Matt Stairs! The Cubs need someone that has a non-trivial chance to hit a home run now and then.
  16. Conine, maybe, but probably not. Gomes, no chance.
  17. Why in the world would anyone ever do that? :D With the Cubs history, I don't see why anybody would begrudge a Cubs fan's right to prematurely assume failure. Absolutely. It's our birthright.
  18. Why in the world would anyone ever do that? :D
  19. We have Kendall who is a veteran and has great career #'s..plus "brings it" every day. I'm not the least bit concerned. It's already been broughten. jersey whipping out his best Jamie Pressley.
  20. Watch - KW will sign Dye to a $30/3 extension and then Hendry will trade for him. :(
  21. Dotel to the Braves for Davies has been finalized.
  22. To reiterate, Wood will be taking Cherry's spot on the roster later this week. That means from the right side we'll have: Dempster Howry Marmol Wood Wuertz If Michael Wuertz is the worst of the 5 RH relievers you have, then you do not have any type of need for another one. Batting Practice Bob is anything but reliable right now.
