  5. from his espn blog (nl central stuff only) - http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=3485850&name=olney_buster We saw last year how a patsy schedule could help to launch a team into the playoffs, when the Yankees steamrollered over a weak slate of teams to go 51-25 in the second half of the season and ascend into the postseason. With that in mind, there is a team among the National League Central contenders with a distinct scheduling advantage: the Milwaukee Brewers. Milwaukee has 67 games remaining, and of those, just 23 are against teams with records of .500 or better so far this season, by far the fewest in the division. Home games remaining: 33. The hurdle that could derail them: In mid-September, the Brewers play a stretch of 10 road games, including four games in Philadelphia and three games against the Cubs in Wrigley Field. The big finish: The Brewers close the season with six home games -- and end the year with three against the Cubs. Among the other NL contenders: Chicago Cubs (67 games remaining) Games against teams with records of .500 or better: 34. Home games: 32. The hurdle that could derail them: The end of the Cubs' schedule is a potential killer -- their last 13 games are against teams with records over .500. The Big Finish: Seven road games -- four in New York against the Mets, three in Milwaukee. A big advantage to the Brewers, on paper. St. Louis Cardinals (66 games remaining) Games against teams with records of .500 or better: 28. Home games: 34. The hurdle that could derail them: The Cardinals have a tough 10-game road trip in mid-August that takes them through Wrigley Field, Florida and Cincinnati. The Big Finish: Seven home games, against the Diamondbacks and the Reds. -------------- everyone plays their schedule. one thing i don't like is having 13 straight at the end of the season.
  6. hopefully he won't have a breakdown and end up with the AZL A's.
  7. he already is a good pitcher for them; he will become a very good pitcher for them

  12. z said in the post-game interview yesterday that he'd be honored if he were to be asked, he obviously hadn't heard anything about who is starting the all-star game.
  13. cubs are going to take it easy on him, give him an extra day between starts and skip him sometimes to try to keep him fresh late into the season http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-080709-rich-harden-chicago-cubs,1,5662681.story The Cubs plan on doing everything possible to keep Harden healthy, short of keeping him in a protective bubble. They will give him an extra day between starts, and could even skip a start on occasion, if necessary, to ensure his readiness in October. The risk of injury is why Harden was made available, despite the fact Oakland remains in a tight playoff race with the Angels in the American League West. "Let's not be nave," general manager Jim Hendry said. "If he hadn't spent a lot of time on the DL the last few years, he's not in Chicago today—he's an untouchable." Now that he's a Cub, Harden will work closely with trainer Mark O'Neal and pitching coach Larry Rothschild to get on a schedule that keeps him as fresh as possible. "It's good to hear that," Harden said. "I feel like I can go out there every fifth or sixth day, and if I get a day off here or there, it definitely makes a difference. Just with the history of having some injuries, that one extra day does make a difference, so I think that's something that we'd do." Manager Lou Piniella said Harden would start the fourth game of the second-half in Arizona on July 21, which would give him eight days off if he makes his Cubs debut on Saturday. If he doesn't pitch this weekend, he will have a two-week break between starts. Piniella said hitting coach Gerald Perry, who was on Oakland's staff before coming to the Cubs, told him "This guy really competes. He can win. So let's keep him healthy." And how do the Cubs ensure that? "We have the luxury here of having six starters, so we can skip somebody if we need to," Piniella said. "We can work around it."
  14. thanks for the recap, much appreciated! and here i am wishing he'd use some of the non-marmol bp guys more. this was probably the midwest league (peoria). gallagher no-hit and one-hit the a's affiliate back in the mwl, which would have drawn some attention.
  15. Tough question. I want to say yes, because he's pitched one hell of a game and deserves to finish it, but the other part of me says no because it's his 2nd start off the DL. no, off the dl like you said, and they have 13 pitchers, don't they?
  16. his foot's been bothering him he looks really bad at the plate, regardless
