  1. We both know you'd do that anyway. We are not making lastnight an every day occurance :)
  2. Don't forget Cotts, hes an option as well. And I would very much like Heilman. The mets don't value him appropriately. Given the fact that we are loading up on starters and "not counting" on Miller and Prior gives additional value to some one like Heilman who has great success in an ML pen should one of those guys get healthy and productive enough to knock him out of the rotation.
  3. It definitely depends on the contract, but from reports the marginal production between Schmidt and the likes of Lilly/Meche/Suppan FAR outweigh the marginal difference in their contracts. Thats how you have to look at it. The second tier of FAs are really no better than #4 guys in the rotation but will get contracts that are only 5M or so cheaper than Schmidt. And outside of 2005 hes pretty much been an Ace.
  4. Lugo is going to cost nearly twice as much as Jones and need twice as long as an obligation. And will probably be slightly less productive. Although I agree that this team would be better subtracting some power for OBP. Jones will have good production in CF (very good if platooned) at a cheap price. If we do get rid of him, I hope it nets a quality hole filler in return. Other than the obvious (Drew), I would like Crisp.
  5. Kaplan also quoted unnamed agents as saying that Hendry's presentation was the best he'd ever seen and that Hendry's rep among players (past and present) helped seal the deal. Lou was active in this recruiting process and also met with Soriano separately. Hendry says he'll be pursuing pitching. As I posted earlier, there's some speculation that they wanted to sign Soriano early to boost credibility and improve there chances with potential FAs, such as Schmidt. hmmm schmidt? now your talking!!!! :D I mean honestly. If you were shmidt. And Hendry came to you with his plan to win. Then you look at the Cubs line-up now. With Soriano, Lee, Ramirez, Barret, Jones in it, wouldn't you think you'd have a good chance to win here? Would the "winning" play a part in wanting to come over? The difference between not re-signing Ramirez. To now having Ramirez, Lee, AND Soriano. Makes this team look MUCH more attractive to FAs. Considering the other team that is supposedly going after shmidt currently resides in the Bronx, he has a better option.
  6. When Levine was on ESPN radio last night, there was some talk about how surprising it was that Soriano signed so quickly (I know, big contract). He said that Lou has been very active in recruiting free agents and that -- as you mention above -- they wanted to sign Soriano early to build credibility for future FA and trade targets. Why would we need to build credibility for a trade target...unless they have a no trade clause that they would have to waive coughARODcough
  7. What caused 20000 hits on 12/7 last year? Well, the winter meetings last year were the reason for the hits. But that was the day of my plane crash, which is what made the day memorable for me. --edit-- Ah yes, the Pierre trade. Crashed? It ran off the runway you weenie (not a weenie if you were in that car, no disrespect meant).
  8. I suppose it isn't a bad move for Brooklyn. They lost JD Drew, and didn't land either ARAM or Soriano (both on the Northside, woot). Hopefully he stays healthy. Poor Looney
  9. Screw defense, A line-up of Soriano CF DeRosa 2b Lee 1b Ramirez 3b Ramirez RF Murton LF Barrett C Izturis SS makes me need new pants. I think I read it on baseballmusings, but the Cubs had the best outfield defense last year. Crazy.
  10. So Princess Diana and Mother Teresa?? Anyone thinking it was similar to the Biggie/Tupac debacle?
  11. I would have been willing to bet my left nut that Muskat wrote that...boy am I glad I didn't.
  12. If that happens, I'm gonna need a new pair of pants. I'm already on my second pair tonight. long lines at the pisser in Texas Stadium?
  13. we need to add an alfonsOWNED to that Someone should photoshop a text box saying "Cubs payroll" over the kitty's face.
  14. Ummm...hello! yea you're like ancient... Fred has you beat Tim, by just a bit.
  15. Really? Jennings' peripherals scare me A LOT. Maybe its just me, but even his 2004 and 2005 ERAs of over 5 seem a bit lower than expected to me. Hes going to cost a lot in terms of players (they asked for Hill) and becomes a FA in 2008. Jennings seems like a true buy high player based on just one good year (the most recent) of conventional metrics. Or in other words, a 2007 cub.
  16. Soriano is yesterday's news, we have better things to talk about right now. Agreed. Hey everyone, I got engaged to a White Sox fan this weekend. True story! I fully expect to be B&. It would be a travesty if you were banned.
