  1. Thats impossible as I'm pretty sure a PTBNL cannot be on the 25-man roster when a trade is made. Hmm, so that means it can't be anyone on the DL? My understanding is that if you are on the ML DL you are ON the 25 man roster (ie collecting ML service time), but you don't count AGAINST the 25 man roster. Also, are you sure its at the time of the trade, or just when the trade is completed. I thought it was that you couldn't trade anyone from the same league, but say you optioned a guy down to the minors and then named him as the PTBNL, technically you'd be trading him from a different league. And yes, I know, Duke is a pipe dream. I miss Mark Peel.
  2. Yeah thats correct. Although the Rays are really in a position of strength here as supposedly there are multiple teams that are pretty into Wiggy even though they'll probably non-tender him in the offseason.
  3. I don't see this as a good thing. How many of these utility types do we need on the roster? He's arby-eligible after this season, meaning he'll probably be looking at a raise into the $5M range. If we're collecting Ty Wigginton for the future then we might as well just give away Eric Patterson, since he'll have no shot at making the roster. And then you have a moderately-expensive player putting up numbers similar to a guy who could do it for less than 10% of the price. Unless you're the Yankees, bad idea. we could always trade him when we're done with him this season, assuming hendry/lou wants him as a righty bench option for the stretch run. if the price is right, i'm in favor of getting ty. I'd imagine we'd non-tender him. Thats what the rays will do if they dont trade him. Strike that....a SMART team would non-tender him. A team who loves to overpay for the bench (like the cubs) would probably love him as a corner IF/OF guy.
  4. I'd rather meet Satan. Maybe they're one and the same. :twisted:Satan's not a lesbian. But she'd be cooler if she was
  5. I believe so. Hes planning to come off the DL friday. Hes playing in minor league games Weds and Thurs.
  6. I'd do that deal in a second. As would I! I think it has moore to do with the fact that I don't see much in Nady. He's just a fairly average corner outfielder (which admittedly would be an upgrade for RF) I'm with you. I don't mind doing Gallagher + Moore to get a RF that will be around past this year, but Nady's nothing too extraordinary. +1 Nady is very average. I guess he and Church project something fairly similar, but I'd rather have Church as I think his upside is bigger (IMO). And he can play center.
  7. That would be hilarious if they had Myers closing and Dempster starting.
  8. ?? All they do is link to other online articles and ESPN Insider stuff... Like 3 years ago I remember they made up a bogus rumor but since then it's been like any other Prosportsdaily type of site. I completely made something up and reported it to mlbtraderumors as if it were a done deal. It was posted ten minutes later. I remember, but wasn't that a long time ago? I think they have new people running it, because i've went there about every morning this year and all of there rumors have links. Tim Dierkes has run the site from its inception. He has guest posters run it when he is unavailable every once in a while. Tim also runs rotoauthority and writes "Waiver Wired" for rotoworld. At first he was really hit or miss. He did pull the Cameron and (sigh) Pierre trade before anyone else, but there were a lot of embarassing misses that tanked his credibility. Now hes taken to more of a "rotoworld for trade rumors" approach where he pretty much just posts links and goes on to explain in more detail and give his opinion. Everyonce in a while he'll have something off the radar from a source but after the first rough patch hes very sure to appropriate label the confidence he has in the substantiation.
  9. Wow, you can't possibly be serious. He looked very good at times during his callup last year. You consider a 5+ ERA and a 1.62 WHIP very good? He said at times. Mateo wasn't ready for the major leagues last year, but then again neither were any of the other starters (for example, look at the difference between Marshall this year and Marshall last year). He is 24 years old and has been pretty good at every level he's been at besides his callup to the majors. Either this year or next year, he probably will be ready to contribute to a major league team as either a back of the rotation starter or a good bullpen pitcher. Which won't be enough to net Dye in this case...even packaged with Murton. Why wouldn't Murton be enough? Dye' coming off the DL, his production is down, he's potentially a 2+ month rental, just what does Williams think he's going to get? He asked SD for Greene and Linbrink. But theres no way hes going to get anything like that.
  10. Guys who crush righties are also known as allstars, not guys DFA'ed
  11. I wouldn't trade Novoa for Garland Garland's career K/BB is the same as Marquis and he costs 50% more, plus his shoulder is shot (his words). Hes had more than 4 Ks in a game only once since opening day. :pukel: The only thing thats saving him this year from utter and complete disaster is an abberationally low HR/FB rate.
  12. Isn't Garland "pitching through pain" right now? Why would anyone trade for potentially damaged goods. I doubt anyone not named Jim Hendry would give up very much for Marquis. The Cubs have a much better chance of making a noticeable upgrade in RF or CF. While I think Marquis sucks, I think hes better than Garland and he's cheaper.
  13. While I will disclaim this with I think Cedeno is the best option and should have been brought up months ago to see if he had indeed progressed enough to hit advanced pitching, how about Renteria? Ken Rosenthal just reported that the Sox were talking about Garland for Renteria but that talks didn't progress. Think they would be interested in Marquis + ? for Renteria?
  14. It's definitely going to cost more than Soto, EPatt, and Veal to get Tex, but I would absolutely love to have him on the team. Could you imagine a lineup like this: 1. Soriano LF 2. Derosa 2b 3. Lee 1b 4. Aram 3b 5. Teixeira RF 6. Jones CF 7. Cedeno/Theriot SS 8. Hill/Kendall 9. pitcher =P~ 1. Soriano LF 2. Lee 1b 3. Teixeira RF 4. Aram 3b 5. DeRosa 2B 6. Jones CF 7. Cedeno/Theriot SS 8. Hill/Kendall 9. pitcher Much better
  15. I'm guessing its not going to take that long though.
  16. If I'm the twins, I'd take Jacque and Murton for Hunter and if I'm the cubs, it'd be nice to have that extra win and two extra draft picks next year to give to Wilken. I'm a murton fan, but its increasingly looking like he doesnt have a place in this organization.
  17. Well, he's not a relief pitcher, so I definitely don't think the Reds will want him. I don't know about Minny. judging by some of the players they've employed or been low on, i don't think they'd really appreciate his skillset. On the other hand, he's cheap talent which probably would fit into their plans. Somehow Jacque Jones comes to mind. Yeah, while the twins are a team that likes to makes outs on purpose, they do have quite a pressing OF situation without the $ to be able to address it appropriately in the offseason. They might like Murton. Although they might just see him as Kubel-esque and pass. If they fall further out in the next week (and with the Yanks surging and Cuddyer injured they probably will) they should definitely listen to Hunter for young cheap OF offers. Hunter will probably go to TX in the offseason so they'll get a sandwich and a 2nd round pick, so not the draft bounty he could bring. Meph, how many win upgrade would Hunter be?
  18. It will be interesting to see if the Reds involve Hatteberg into the deal. Salty has been playing 1st base for the Braves, so this way they get a SP and a 1st baseman. I think I would ask for another prospect if Hatteberg was added into the deal, though. Maybe a lower level pitcher. You think the reds should ask for another prospect from the braves?!?!? Arroyo has been absolutely brutul up until late. Hes signed to a fair contract, I don't see the point in trading for him when they can probably go out and find a guy like him in the FA market for the same pricetag. As somebody who watches just about every Reds game, him struggling had more to do with Narron then it did Arroyo. He's been pitching MUCH better since Narron got canned. While (as I acknowledged) he has pitched better lately, can you explain how Narron was the cause? I could be wrong, but I thought his turn around started before Narron was gone. Just competley abused his arm. Well over 100 pitches everytime out, coming off a 240 inning year and pitching on the MLB tour in Japan. It was terrible to watch. Narron was managing to save his job, and it showed on Arroyo's arm. 114 pitches in his first start after narron got canned. Additionally, if anything Narrons abuse is going to taint him moving forward. Look at what happend to his numbers after the 130 pitch effort in San Diego. No doubt, hes tainted goods.
  19. Really, is that updated for Saturday? I was just pulling it right off the BP stats page. it doesnt include todays games. rich made his 19th start of the season today and that has him at 18 starts. He probably gained two or so runs on it today, pushing him up to the late 30s, but hell certainly be top 40 starters considering he was #41 going into the day -- there are four relievers ahead of him. Bah, forgot to filter IPs to weed out relievers. Thanks.

I think I would ask for another prospect if Hatteberg was added into the deal, though. Maybe a lower level pitcher. I don't think Hatteberg would be enough for the Braves right now. Whether or not they should, they won't. They value Salty very highly. It wouldn't be enough? Hatteberg is a .300 hitter who walks alot. Arroyo, who is beginning to come back to form now that Narron is gone, would a great addition to their staff and is probably the best SP on the market. I don't see the Braves getting a better offer then that. And then they choose to keep Salty for now since there under no pressure to trade him. Hatteberg and Arroyo are a substantial upgrade over Salty for THIS year. If they want to win THIS year, then they would do the deal. I honeslty don't know, as a Reds fan, if I would trade Arroyo for Salty straight up. Man, as a neither fan, if I were the braves theres no way I'd trade Salty for Arroyo straight up.
