  1. Man, if they get him for a package around Gywnn, that will suck...hes a freakin 4th OF.
  2. Yeah, the idea of trading is to improve your team, thats why most here would prefer a position player that is going to play in 50 more games to a reliever whos going to pitch 20 more innings.
  3. That's right. I forgot. You're only allowed to work on one trade at a time. So if they are talking to the Rangers about Gagne, they can't talk about a trade with anybody else. There's no need to waste chips on Gagne. It's not about wasting valuable trade talking time, it's about wasting resources on acquiring him. I think what is lost on many people is the possibility that an acquisition like Gagne or Silva opens up chips that small market teams want but the Cubs aren't currently willing to trade. you pick up Gagne and Silva, and all of a sudden you can make Hill and Marmol available in a package with Murton for that big bat we are all hoping for. ANd then we're screwed next year.... what's this 'next year' that you speak of? the year the cubs are defending WS champs
  4. Yep because Ohman and Eyre are great. Ohman is, when used properly and when was the last time Eyre got a meaningful inning? Hes a mop up man. You dont' need to have 14 set up men in your pen. Howry, Marmol, Wuertz, and (hopefully) Wood is more than enough.

  6. Thats what, approx the equivalent of Murton and Marshall?
  7. If his hiring means DePo is hired by the Cubs after this year, I'll be a very happy man. Only if Cuban buys the team.
  8. He's part of the hallowed triumvirate of NSBB along with Brad Wilkerson and Mark Bellhorn. KENT!!!!
  9. Supposedly the mets are in on him too, but hed be a nice upgrade for us.
  10. You keep using that word, I do not that it means what you think it means. Ohh God, obviously its a hyperbole. Listen, I don't care how bad he would be on defense, I'd be for him. But he has a reputation as a hack in the field and I think Hendry wouldn't be so interested in him because of that. Thats all I was trying to say. I know what you were trying to say, as does everyone else. But, it annoys me when people use literally when they obviously don't mean it and so I decided to quote a line from a funny movie that somewhat applied. It's not a big deal, but it's not like I called you stupid or accused you of not knowing what literally meant. In fact, my comment wasn't mean spirited at all. Gotcha. I apologize. Rumors of Carlos Silva and Pie for Laird and the such have made me irritable.
  11. Cornelius Clifford Floyd Theres a difference. One can't move, one can't catch the ball. How can you catch the ball if you can't move to put yourself in a postion to do so? Good scouting...if its hit directly at you. :D

  14. We all want Griffey though griffey is having a good year and would make our lineup disgusting jd drew and baldelli are not exactly lighting the world on fire this season He barely played this season. Hes the equivalent of Mark Prior with lesser potential, but better chance of being healthy. (Not saying that as a good thing or a bad thing)
  15. Although, I don't know if Hendry would be too keen. Gomes literally cannot catch the ball. (Although, I wouldn't have a problem with it)
  16. Actually you've got it backwards. MLB's escalating salaries work to inflate the values of the young/cheap guys we have, and would be giving up. Meanwhile those spiraling contracts make it harder to find $12M for Griffey, or $9M for Renteria, when your payroll is being gobbled up elsewhere. Practically everyone around baseball is desperate for guys that can be solid, productive bigleaguers for the league minimum. We're giving up several such players in this deal. It may not be enough, but the value proposition is definitely a strong selling point. Just of note, but with deferred salary, Griffey is only making NPV like 9M a year and with Boston picking up some of the bill, Renteria is only making like 5M.
  17. We don't have one guy that could sniff any of the three that are being reported in the deal for Blanton.
  18. The last line is the most telling. I think he'd rather not waste his bullets on a guy whos going to throw 20 innings for him the rest of the year and would rather get a starting pitcher.
  19. Any deal for Renteria would be a 3 team deal, plain and simple. The Braves are running out of prospects they are willing to deal, but want another SP. Both the whitesox (Garland) and the reds (Arroyo) are looking for prospects to rebuild. I wouldn't give them the world, but I think we could work out a three team swap without damaging our farm. Plus Boston is paying a chunk of Renterias salary and hes signed for 08 as well.
  20. I'm hearing the offer of Loney, Ethier and Meloan never was really on the table. Although jjg could have mean LAAoA's offer.
  21. Interestingly, in a couple years the Rangers might be in the same situation the Braves were in if Teagarden's elbow holds up.
  22. Atlanta is still trying to get Arroyo, but have used up most of their non-major league talent (that they are willing to trade). I'd insert myself into the picture to give up minor league arms for Renteria. I'd see if the Twins would be interested in Murton and Jones for Hunter. Or something similar with the Reds for Griffey or Dunn. I'd add in minor league arms within reason if necessary. I'd see what it would take for Ramon Hernandez, hes redundent after they drafted Wieters. I'd listen to what they'd want for Tejada as a plan B for Renteria. The OF might cost quite a bit, but Renteria and Hernandez would be big upgrades that wouldn't cost us the farm.
  23. Its sad that he would have to use misinformation to appease his fans rather than to get deals done. I know you were joking, but it could be true. If he made a decision to stand pat, its better to address the media to say this. Of course most likely it was just Sullivan speaking out of his behind.
